I have not seen this version. Does anyone know if the original Griffin and Phoenix - A Love Story is available starring Peter Falk and Jill Clayburgh from, I think 1975? That film was incredible, yet I have only ever seen it once, back in the early 80s.

it's a film and the ending implies that they do pass away. if you watch the film you'll find out that both are dying of terminal illnesses.

the film reveals that Griffin doesn't have a long time to live due lesions that have spread through his chest. Phoenix on the other hand, I forget what she has, but the reason she gets pissed at Griffin when she finds the books on death is because she thinks he's found out that she has terminal cancer.

i love this moive. When phoenix was dying with cancer, Griffin stayed with her although he knows in his mind that he will be like her in the end. Griffin is a wonderful lover, he always bring her surprise and miracle. It's perfect that the director let the moive ends in a perfect moment.I really don't wanna to see them die.
