When I saw this video the first time, I thought it was modern wushu. Only now I realize this is in fact one of the best pigua fighters I've seen on youtube. His arms are heavy and relaxed, stances are agile and stable but most importantly you can see his focus. If you'd have to fight him, that's how strong and agile he'd be.
couse I know this form I learn it when aI was younger. My teacher tell me that its old (cca 50-60 years old) comeptition form. Now I dont know ... some people said its traditional form some people said its old competitin form. ha What now ? :)
useful to teach one the muscle memory to throw full body power and leverage into a strike, also useful to smash the bones in your own hand because he's not aligning them and your fist's bones are not a flail, they must align properly to break the enemy's body without damaging one's own hand. How many top fighters have had to have surgery on their hand? Fedor Emelianenko for one.
Other than that, good flexibility and fluidity, but those moves are way too telegraphed to hit anything but a novice
Luohan108 You don't understand what real Quanshu is???? stick your head into any serious gym, dojo or better yet an MMA school and then ask your ignorant self could this guy really cut the mustard ......
again for the recored..this is gymnastic wushu NOT traditiona Quan shu
Dude, i do train seriously, i may not do MMA but i have fought Sanda in competition, and i have fought it in northern china in two matches. I lost both, but at least i tried.
Gong Fu is NOT just about fighting techniques buddy, it never was, its about perfecting skills to a very high level, regardless of what these skills are. You actually said this guy was doing it too fast??
LOL.....Fast and being controlled are two different things. And of practicing Pigua? U don't have to do it fast. Correct yes! But always fast? NO how about controlled with xing and yi. Oh let me get this right? You have fought Sanda in China yet indorse this? Yea right whom you playing for a sucker? If so......Come on where is your reality check? At least if you have fought Sanda, have the balls to call a spade a spade.... Sanda in Chjina yea right...put the crack pipe down
Luohan108, I think you're right - wushu isn't just about fighting. I don't in any way use that to mean that the fighting element should be relegated to second place, but it is interesting to hear people demand that Quanshu become something else - such as MMA. It could absorb MMA training methods, but still have wider objectives, such as athletic or gymnastic physical dexterity. I think the modern wushu is technically better than traditional - easily - it just tends to lack practical training.
From a historical perspective, this is real quanshu. Do you think traditional Chinese martial arts involved Sanda style training in a gym? I doubt this guy could match a Sanda fighter in a ring, but this is traditional, or "real" quanshu. No question about that. Why don't you post something, or at least point me in the general direction of what you think is real pigua, just so we know you're not BSing.
This IS traditional kung fu. I don't understand you kind of people. Does it have to look really slow and badly controlled for you to consider it 'traditional'. You think someone just invented all these moves in the last few decades. Actually Pigua is a much older style than say, wing chun.
Agreed. Wing Chun was almost just made compared to Wing Chun. And Hey buddy, EVERY form around the world is taught differently. It is very rarly the same. Just because it dosn't look the way you learned it from YOUR Sifu, Dosn't make it wrong. You have to look at the technique and power inside the form. Look and see if you can tell what applications he is doing.
and remember: not all spectacular kung fu = modern wushu! there are styles of kung fu that are spectacular and traditional at the same time: long fist, snake, drunken,...................................
Simply marvelous???? As someone who does Pigua Quan I see nothing but "noodle wushu." Yea the guy can bounce his ass off the ground and put his foot behind his head, so fuckin what! I no power, I so intent and I see sloppy technique done way to fast to be of any value save being in a gym class.
Jadewillow?? As someone who also does Pigua quan, i'm surprised at your comment. If you try and use pigua quan any slower than this it is completely useless. In this style flexibility is paramount. Sloppy??? Would love to see you OR your master do better, post a video. Plus flexbility is one of the main pursuits in real gong fu, never put it down. He touches his head to his toes, this is EARNED flexibility, it shows good basics.
Ah yea...I've been doing Tongbei Pigua for nearly 30 years. My Sifu is dead......and yea I can do better. You need to get a clue as to what real technique is...as far posting a vid how you post up first ...then maybe I'll feel obligated to give a lesson or two for free
wow, awesome flexibility. Great vid :)

It´s just forms, the moves won´t even be recognized in a fight, they become shorter, just like every other normal MA move.

Wang Zhihai, although older, is very good. Just look at the way he does tui fa and dan pi shou. Simply marvelous.
