Her playing (Valentina) is phenomenal! I'm under the impression she plays musical pieces as they were intended, in other words true to the vision of the composers intention of how it should be played. I'm definitely going to catch one of her performances when she's in my area!
@thep51dliberated7 While searching through many many many videos I stumbled on this about 2 years ago or so, and fell in love with it! I still return on a regular basis to hear her play. There is full version around, can't remember where it is though. But I agree with you 110% she really does every piece she plays justice!
i don't get it... i listen to jung lin again and again, and i still don't understand why everybody says she's the best... i don't care she's asian, i find her interpretation clear but just clear.
I come back to this over and over again! Love the style and computer accuracy (still an emotional demonstration) she demonstrates! All those years of drills and teaching the fingers to do something un-natural combined with her obvious natural talent have made quite a phenomenal Pianist!!
@MrSlimilS Jung Lin's HR2 is by far the best, IMO even better than those by Rach and Moiseiwitsch - and those three are surreal performances by extraordinary musicians :-))
always remember this from a film about 1943 called "Latin quarter". the people relaxing in the town square and an exciting dance ensued. pity this was cut short
I adore you and your performance, too. I can't find words....simply it is fantastic. You became my favourite no1. But it is a pitty that your face can't be seen. :(
This is wonderful, such an amazing performance of a classic from Liszt! Also, I had a good laugh at the description and ending with the violin. Thanks so much for sharing this! :D
To Miss Valentina: please when I was little girl they have me play this. My hands could hardly handle the octave work. If only maestra would have been able to let me hear you play this... it makes my breath shallow, it makes me smile, i am awed by your fingers. Such technique - very very good. I laugh with you very much! Thank you!
Honestly, this is the best interpretation of HR2 ever I have seen thousands of people have been trying but this is guaranteed the best, most original and purest interpretation at all, perhaps, since Franz Liszt
@abrasax08 You say the funniest things :) This is not a "performance", it's the first half of the HR2, the lassan. Listen to Valentina's full peformance, it's on youtube.
Why do people dislike LL so much? Hard to understand that.
It's Jung LIN and her performance is sublime, no other pianist has ever played it better :)
@abrasax08 Her name is Jung LIN and her HR2 is extraordinary. The interpretations by Jung Lin, Rach and Moiseiwitsch are the greatest ever, they have immense musicality and artistry :-))
There are huge differences in interpretation: Valentina is great but she plays every piece to the proscribed tempo and dynamics. To be fair, this is only the Lassan, should listen to her full HR2. Lang Lang doesn't belong in the same discussion and he plays a different work, the Liszt-Horowitz:-))
I've just started to get into classical music and I've got to say the raw emotion and passion I feel from players like you just make me love it more every second. I could and have listend to these pieces for houres. On a lighter note, this piece was also used in a favourite bugs bunny cartoon. Little known fact there :) thanks for posting these. Keep up the amazing work xxx
@aznminr123 ok calm down like I said I'm just getting into this kind of music. I call myself a lamen as hannibal lector would say. So yes I like 'romantic' music like this and all the music that valentina plays :)
I just tried to play the keys on my laptop while watching this at the same rate she played the piano and couldnt do it. And I wasn't actually hitting anything specific.... she was....
Complimenti davvero, brava virtuosa :)
Reading testimonies from Liszt's contemporaries describes his unrivalled skill, the feeling and clarity of his playing. I've listened to many Liszt pieces by various pianists (I even have Leslie Howard's complete Liszt) and it still strikes me how beautifully and precisely you play. It seems a class up, as Liszt would have been, even from incredible pianists like Howard. I defy anyone to find someone who plays the terrifying opening passages of Totentanz with more fire and precision than you :)
Val...Thank you for posting this piano session. Love watching you perform. I hope that someone else trying to say this isn't as good as Jungs' concert footage of the whole piece (no violin Cadenza LOL) doesn't discourage you from posting more of these.
@gr8tlsnr You are funny mate, and good too see gallantry for a change :)
V. Lisitsa is clearly a beautiful lady who performs very beautifully. I am afraid I'm going gallant too, in that Jung Lin is also a beautiful lady who plays very very beautifully :)
For an example of the depth and clarity I am referring to in Lisitsa's version: Compare Lisitsa's version at 5:09 with Jung's version at 5:35. Lisitsa, in my opinion, pays better attention to a transitional change in tempo shortly after that point. She (Lisitsa) makes one FEEL the song has a new beginning and to get up and start to dance. Jung's version pays little if any attention to that transition and seem just to put focus on the faster tempo after that.
@gr8tlsnr Never said that, "fake" is your word! I said THIS video isn't a real performance, just practice for her. For you to suggest otherwise is an insult to all intelligent people. In my two years on YT I have always said Valentina is a great pianist.
Jung Lin's HR2 is extraordinary, she's the pianist I now listen to, as well as Rachmaninoff, Gilels, Horowitz, Richter and Benno M. I also like some performances by Weissenberg, Ashkenazy, Kissin, Argerich, Bronfman and Cziffra :-)
@DimitarRM Sigh, For future reference, there is someone who reads these posts who already knows I'm not a piano expert. That persons name is: Valentina Lisitsa. She was very kind to correct me, by email, on something I wrote. Given that.... Who are you trying to impress DimitarRM by directing that comment to me? Oh… that was a rhetorical question and I will not reply to any more messages you direct toward me.
@DimitarRM Jung Lin's play is far from the perfect she made lot of mistakes and wipes. György Cziffra is one of the best and Miss Valentina play the composition as emphaty as Cziffra. But this is my subjectiv opinion.
@nemethgabor60 The fact is Jung Lin does NOT make any mistakes. It is one thing for you to say you don't like her interpretation, but to say she "made lot of mistakes" is bs, mi dispiace amico :-)
In my opinion, Jung Lin's HR2 is extraordinary, she does do justice to Liszt and plays with as much musicality and passion as Cziffra did, and her technique is as good as anyone. Although my all time favorites are Rach's and Jung's HR2, Cziffra's performances, all of them, are surreal :-))
@DimitarRM Jung Lin's version may technically be perfect, that is probably true. But I can't hear as much emotion and passion in it as I can in this version (not saying she doesn't impress me, quite the opposite). I like to be stunned by technical virtuosity. But further more I like to be moved by emotion. Perfection for me is, if it both comes together. Each to his own. :)
@Seleuce I said Jung Lin's version is perfect because she does invoke emotion to the utmost. Cziffra did that and she also does that. Yes her technique is perfect but that's only a vehicle for her to bring out all the emotions in the piece, it's extremely Cziffraesque. :)
@DimitarRM We really seem to hear these interpretations very differently I guess. I miss temperament and passion in Jung Lins way to play it, not enough emotions at all for me. It is rather a cool, distanced strength of an ice princess in it rather than fire. She is no way close to Cziffra for me, his interpretation was unusual and totally unpredictable. With Lin nothing new comes up I feel. Anyway she is not a bad artist, I don't want to bash her. Just not my taste. :)
@Seleuce Guess we do hear different things. There is a live Cziffra performance of the HR2, listen to how he plays the Friska, then listen to Jung Lin's Friska. Same passion and emotion, impossible fast tempo, little pedal use, crystal clarity. Lin's HR2 is perfect, to me. :)
... but I can't help hating her right now as she interrupted this wonderful performance! Valentina, please, redo this rhapsody. PLEASE. You play it so well that words cant describe it!!
How can she make it sound so flowy and fluent? I try but it's hard, especially for this song! Might have to do with the type of pianos I've been through...
WolfieTed , you are apsolutely 100000% right....she is perfect......I heard Lang , Jung Lin and others , but nothing comparing to her performance.....wow ......
Watched this one, and then the Lang Lang one... liked this one much better than his. More subtlety and clarity, and most importantly, no horrible muddy bass banging noises. :6

It's a long shot but judging from this rendition, I get the impression that she was born to play Lizt.

Perfect.
I LOVE your playing, if you'll ever play in Slovenia or anywhere near, I'll sure come! :)
Liszt is one of my favorites and you can really play it. So, for me it's a perfect combination, you and Liszt. :)

How can she make it sound so flowy and fluent? I try but it's hard, especially for this song! Might have to do with the type of pianos I've been through...

Watched this one, and then the Lang Lang one... liked this one much better than his. More subtlety and clarity, and most importantly, no horrible muddy bass banging noises. :6

Valentina did a good job of this Rhapsody but Volodos delivers the true Gypsy sound.
