Hopefully we'll be able to sing that song in the manner of Mr.Armstong with the influence of the new songs of Moses and the Lamb of Rev. 15 that gives us the hope of immense hope and impending relief that this song sets the stage for.
why being a teenager automatically makes us "bad music listeners"? I don't care that the other people on my own age listen to crap, but I love this. We are not permitted to not like this. I'm 15 and I listen to everything that has good quality music.
This song can make me cry, anytime. I've played this song on the piano my whole life, and my Dad would stand behind me with his hands on my shoulders, singing this song. When it came to "Lift me to Paradise," his voice was so strong, it always gave me goosebumps...I can't play it without feeling his hands on my shoulders...which is a good thing, but there will always be tears.
Frankie Laine had the original hit recording of the song on Mercury at the time. The custom back then, was that other popular singers and bands issued their own versions- and Louis was no exception. Interesting Gordon Jenkins arrangement...
America is drenched in the sweat of blacks who have been enslaved, either in chains or by poverty. It all comes through in this song. It's no wonder so many blacks are rejoicing at the election of Barick Obama.
I don't really know why people have been receiving this comment negatively. I think you're right. African Americans have suffered through slavery in this nation's history and they rose from that, through public segregation and now is the first time that a person of color is sitting in the Oval Office. I agree that it is a reason for rejoicing, not just for black people, but for anyone who has been oppressed.
Absolutely, but lets also remember that there were thousands of white slaves and some of them were owned and by blacks. Slavery doesn't respect life, much less racial lines. Putting it in terms of race is part of how it continues. We have more slavery today than in anytime in history. Much comes from Jewish and Muslim historical attitudes, but all races and countries take turns enslaving and being enslaved. Keep ur eye on any politician & remove racial tinted glasses. O's broken promises already
@hammerhead0519 My Father was a great ragtime jazz pianist. He used to play all this classic stuff at home when I was a kid. I liked it but didn't really appreciate the music or him now that he's gone. I've still got his old upright piano and now I love this music, especially as I'm a musician too, it meant enough for me to follow in his footsteps I guess. I do miss him so.
Really like Wilson's interpretation and it seeps all the way through the album of the same name. A good album overall. Louis is still a legend though and even his appearance in "High Society" makes me smile!
This is traditionally how this song is played...melancholy.
If you want to hear an uplifting doo wop version of this song, see the version by the Velvets just added to Youtube, Superb. This version, fab too of course.
I was going to buy a set of his, but put it back and bought all the records I just posted instead, along with about 20 others. I know a guy with hundreds of Al Jolson records that he'll sell to me for $1 or $2 each and I'll probably buy some after Christmas.
Hopefully we'll be able to sing that song in the manner of Mr.Armstong with the influence of the new songs of Moses and the Lamb of Rev. 15 that gives us the hope of immense hope and impending relief that this song sets the stage for.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
The first time that a person of color is in the Oval Office, yes. But Obama is NOT the FIRST African-American President of the USA.
He's the 44th — if you trace the ancestry of the others back far enough.
EVERYONE in America, INCLUDING the so-called "American Indians," is an African-American if you trace the ancestry back far enough.
Africa is where the entire human species (Homo sapien sapien) originally came from.

Now there is a new version by Brian Wilson on his new CD, Lucky Old Sun. Same basic melody, reworked chord structure and arrangement. Worth a listen.
