This video is for all the idiots out there that just focus on his 'kicks' and 'abuse' through their tunnel vision instead of looking at the whole. The truth of the matter is CM gets results, and he only ever uses his overpowering alpha techniques for dogs most other trainers out there don't want to even try rehabilitating, like his beloved pit bulls. I think the truth of the matter is most people hate him because he's Mexican and an illegal immigrant. Who the f@%# cares as long as he's helping.
Members of my family have raised dogs all breeds and mixes for 50+ yrs. These dogs are not just pets but were working dogs. He proves his techniques work! I've seen him in action abuse IS NOT his technique. There is a difference between discipline and abuse. Use a dictionary. This dog's response is positive to the training recv'd. I find it amazing that anyone could come to such a conclusion seeing this video or any other of his videos. I myself own a entire pack all of my dogs.
I became the bridge - what a load of rubbish from this self obsessed individual. All he did was counter condition and he was providing the treats. Something he should be doing more of (and less of the me, me, I, I)
Why is he saying 'with this dog' you can reward and treat but with dogs who are aggressive you move into their space to get them to surrender? What an idiot. Both are expressing fear - why make the latter worse with intimidation.
CM's coercieve approach of forcing "surrender' often elicits defensive aggression. There have been several studies on these confrontational apprach to training and they results are not favourable. I agree that his language is pure nonsense. It really shows that he doesn't undertand how conditioning works.
oh yea and also james you do realise that men too suffer abuse in the home not just women, its narrow minded people like you who cannot see the big picture and fuel ill informed notions.
@dashdream you are a fool to ignore the basic fact that women are the primary victims of household abuse. True that many men also suffer, but the numbers don't compare to that of women. It's ignorant people like you who can't see the big picture who fuel ill informed opinion
"Make sure to do plenty of alpha rolls and foot "taps" to the stomach when they get scared"
This is massively ignorant. You cannot punsish a dog for being afraid. You cannot alpha roll away the fears. The only thing that consistently works is the association of the scary stimuls with a rewarding event. Sometimes with vaccum it must be in the off, not moving or from far away. But consistent reinforcement and counter conditioning works. And you don't have ot resort to violence lilke MIllan
@James007829 it is obvious you didnt actually watch the video, he used positive reinforcement, no alpha rolls or taps he never uses these methods with fearfull dogs. i think people who have a go at him havnt actually watched all his shows only a small clip of him working with an extremely agressive dog and assume this is all he does with dogs, if you ever watch a full episode the dogs are not fearfull with him at the end they love him follow him and want to be around him.
@dashdream, it seems strange for a woman's magazine to be promoting violent means of control, when so many women have experienced the same. Especially so since we know that aggressive treatment of animals is a precursor and idicator that similar behavior will eventually be aimed at any weaker members of the household.
@James007829 he doesnt hurt or hit the dog in this video you need to check your facts first before comenting on something, why not focus your energy on people who actually are doing harm to dogs, even tho they might not hit the dog they dont excercise them enough or walk them off lead or fill the dogs life with enrichment or they dont let the dog be with other dogs or help a dog that lives with stress, cesar takes really good care of all his dogs and they love him and respect him.
@dashdream, Millan's approach is inherently violent and many people have made this observation. Teaching violence is bad. Making children insensitive to violent treatment is bad. And it's well known that Millan's methods don't really teach. They suppress behavior. Studies show that confrontational training methods like those of millan induce aggression - one of the leading causes of euthanasia.
If your dog isn't interested in the treats he probably just doesn't like the treats enough and you need to try a different kind of treat or even use people food...just anything that will work. In some cases though they just aren't interested in food period. Maybe it's toys, or praise, but as long as you have something that your dog loves he will be willing to try for you! Another thing is you may be pushing your dog to hard and not taking things slow enough for him. If that is the case
Make sure to do plenty of alpha rolls and foot "taps" to the stomach when they get scared. That'll learn them. Also, putting them into a large area with a whole bunch of other dogs and hoping for the best is also a good way to stop your dog from being fearful.
@Liberalunconformest i had the same problem and what i did was used a better treat like meat or what my dog loves is ham because she wast interested with dog treats so i used the ham!!! which worked.
@fuckjames100 Thanks! I just watched an episode of dog whisperer that was the same problem as my dog. I used ham and it worked perfectly! But, now he's still fearful of me. If I walk to him he goes into "flight" mode...
@Liberalunconformest I've had some success with fearful dogs that belonged to friends. I get down on their level by sitting or even lying down and offering a treat or laying a treat on the floor near me. Sometimes I have to move back before the dog will come to the treat. Eventually the dog will come to me and after a few sessions he will take the treat from my hand and he will allow me to touch him
Some extremely fearful dogs cannot be saved and will become fear biters and put down.
I suggest using toys, play sessions, life rewards and capturing. Depending on the extent of his fearfulness he may have difficulty playing and may very well need to learn how. If so, begin teaching him to play with minimal distractions. Use life rewards such as attention, access to prime resting spots like your bed or the couch, and if he enjoys walks even the chance to go out the door can be opportunity to ask him to "say please by sitting."
Capturing takes a bit more patience but simply means to wait for him to offer a desirable behavior and then reward him with something he does find valuable. An example would be taking him with you in a room and closing the door where there a no stimulating objects, ignoring his behavior until he offers a sit and then rewarding him by allowing him to leave them room. If he was previously barking or whining to get out of the room that is a good indication that leaving the room would be a reward.
Finally, depending on the intensity of his fear, the age of the dog and what he is fearful of, intense and proper socialization may be in order. In socializing him you want to control for his experiences so that they are completely positive. This means not presenting him with too strong a stimulus to the point where he is showing flight, avoidance, or learned helplessnes.
Fearfulness can only be counteracted through several positive experiences and implenting behaviors that are positive and incompatible with fear responses. An example would be teaching a dog to do agility in your backyard and rewarding heavily. Next you have the dog do agility with dogs present but at a distance. Gradually the challenge is intensified. The rewards countercondition your dog and the physical manifestations of agility are not compatible with those of a fear response. cpdt-ka

then your dog probably thinks the treats (or whatever your using) isn't enough for what your asking of it.
