JUST MADE IT... In 1962 "Chip Chip" peaked at No. 10 thus just making the Billboard's Top 10 and it spent a total of 11 weeks in the Top 100...
This was the last of three records by Mr. McDaniels' to make the Top 10; the others were "A Hundred Pounds Of Clay" {#3} and "Tower OF Strength" {#5}... R.I.P.
Loved your voice since I first heard it 50years ago. Never got sick of hearing,Chip, Chip, and one Hundred Pounds of Clay etc.,i always thought you were so underrated. Thanks for the memories, You still looked amazing at 76 years, I am saddened at your passing.
Eugene McDaniels, who recorded the 1961 hit “A Hundred Pounds of Clay,” this song "Chip Chip,"and later wrote Roberta Flack ’s chart-topping single “Feel Like Makin’ Love,” has died at 76 on 3 Aug 2011.
Great artist. Very expressive singer. Never got the credit he deserved. As good as Lou Rawls, Johnny Mathis and even King Cole. Just listen to that voice! A shame I never got to see him live and thank him for his music. R.I.P. Sweet soul brother, a fellow singer of songs, JG, CBSEye
i remember this song on WEEP, KQV & KDKA (Pittsburgh) hit surveys. Good to hear this again. Thanks for the uploaded video - - - very impressed with the seamless dissolves. Nice un. Thank you
Sir- Do you have "Are You Sincere" by Gene?? I have been looking for it everywhere. I just gotta hear it.. It has been years and years since I have heard that little diddy! Thanks!
Gene McDaniels was a great artist whose songs were often covered on this side of the Atlantic by Frankie Vaughan. They both had great voices and sounded very similar. Little to choose between these two. Both of them great singers. Gene's song Another Tear Falls is really worth listening to.
The song was actually written by Cliff. I interviewed Cliff and he told me Snuff Garrett called him into his office and asked him to write a song titled "Chip Chip". Snuff received a song with that title from Resnick and Barry, but only liked the title. Cliff told me it was a cold rainy night when he went home, turned on the oven, let the door down and stuck his feet up on the oven door and wrote the song! The other guys only got credit for the song because they supplied the title.
Actually the othertwo had nothing to do with the words or music. My grandfather is Cliff Crofford and he told me that he did not have to give them credit for any of the song because you can't copywrite a title however being the kind of person he was he gave Resniclk and Barry each a percentage of the song.
