  • Miss you Misty 12/18 and 2/19.

  • I was named after this song. Dad was a bull rider and was never apart of my life. I'm 25 now. The crowd will always love you but as for me I've come to know everything that glitters isn't Gold.

  • People who take the time to actually click on a vid (already narrows down the audience) and then take the time to give it a dislike (as opposed to just moving on or passing out) either crave attention or drama. I love DS and actually met him around '03 on tour with Charlie Daniels, but I don't care for this song. But I don't crave attention nor drama. I move on. RIP Dan, you were a peach of a dude.

  • i love all of dan seals music the day i heard he passed away i cried he is a true legend

  • I had no idea he passed on. RIP Dan

  • Beautiful song with a very important message. RIP Dan

  • One of my ALL time favorites from Dan..

  • Best Hurtin' song of all time. imho.

  • Love U Misty Dawn and Becca too.

    Dannell

  • i like very much

  • we got 13 dislikes can kiss my ass

  • i miss this kind of country too!! waaaah.

  • This song is a masterpiece! Everything Dan Seals put his heart and soul and spirit into always came out so beautiful from this great singer/songwriter/musician! Love, BobbyK

  • just remembering all the old days love you dan seals

  • I heard this song driving to South Dakota when it was the only station the radio would pick up. I tell you his voice is damn haunting when you're in the middle of nowhere.

  • Same thing with rap music........haunting.

  • sad

  • Before watching this video, I had no idea that he's left-handed.

  • I also did not know that he had died. It makes me sad.

And is it just me, or did he look an awful lot like a bearded Brad Pitt in this video?

  • Knew Dan well. I worked for the record label (Capitol/EMI, then Capitol Nashville) from 1983 through 1997 in promotion. He was one of the most beloved artists and a big gentle man. His incredible talent as a singer/songwriter is sadly missed.

I miss him Tony G. I know you do too. We do have his music to remember his legacy.

    Love,

    GA

    country lost another great voice.......

  • @massarot This isn't just good COUNTRY music. This is down right Great Music!

  • 13 people must have one of those older computer mice, the kind with the inner track ball that gets dirty. Try as they might, they just could not hit the Like button.

Open up your mouse on the bottom and take a moist towelette, and clean that old thing. Or better yet go get a newer mouse.

  • @chazbroam , Enough, I have been enlightened. Please explain your understanding and how you have arrived at this understanding of making excuses for other humans. I would really wish to be educated, no, really I do.

  • @ASADAAAAAAMA I was trying to be nice. I had me one of those older mice (with the inner track ball), and when they get dirty they never hit the target you're aiming for. I always had to take the track ball out and wipe off the inner rollers (3 skinny rollers, 2 black & 1 chrome), then replace the ball. Now I got a optical mouse. no more cleaning :D

  • @ASADAAAAAAMA who in their right mind woudl not like this music/song/singer? Must be a mechanical error or something.

  • My lighter is lit, and waving for the memory of Mr. Dan Seals. RIP, Mr. Seals, and thank you for your musical gifts.

  • This song makes me want to drink so bad.

  • Glad to see I'm not the only person who tears up almost every time they hear this...I got to see Dan Seals live in the late 90s, such a great singer. RIP DAN

  • Makes me cry everytime...

  • I never noticed until now that Dan Seals is left handed.

  • Beautiful voice singing words you can really understand. Would have loved to have met him.

  • 13 dislikes... i guess they are blind and deaf

  • @EMarino73 maybe they don't like the message - makes them too sad. good song, sad story.

  • I found this out the hard way... She glitters but she is not gold...

  • love ole country!!!

  • i was the first black counrty dj in my town i could just play this song over and over i was going thur a bad relaitonship at the time that i felt was good this song hepl me so much. I no words could be any truer

  • Just had to put a horse down from EPM,been thinking about this song all day.

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. It paints a picture of love, sacrifice, loneliness, beauty, dreams, compassion, sorrow and forgiveness.

It's right up there next to "He Stopped Loving Her Today."

I don't think I've ever heard this song without tearing up, not once.

  • I was a country DJ at a small radio station here in SWVa. back in the 80's. Spun 45's back then and everything was live. I had just turned 16 and worked after school. I remember the first time I played this song.... watching the needles on the meters bouncing as the transmitter shared this song with my friends and neighbors in the county... thousands of hours of music later and its still one of my favorites.

  • i love this sonq, one of my country favorites (:

  • i wish i had this in karaoke its a great song makes me cry but sometimes thats a good thing

  • I rememeber listening to this song when i was in the rodeos back in the 80's..RIP Dan..Miss you so much..

  • The cowboy and the rodeo queen are my mom and dad (Bill and Syd) and my sister is Casey. They were all good friends! This video was shot in Kingman Arizona. Dan is the one who got me into country RIP buddy these were the good days!

  • RIP DAN SEALS YOU WERE A HELL OF A SINGER! YOU WILL BE MISSED!

  • Love it!!!!!!!

  • Such a sad song, but certainly lots of life's lessons. Of course what's not said here is maybe the woman left because the man wasn't supportive of her dreams. There are men who try to hold women back all the time. Ideally, a husband and wife will support each other in their goals and dreams, but unfortunately that's not the reality in so many cases

  • @choosing2lookeast i know its tough and there are many areas a gray in this situtation, but the woman did leave her child. and well if she didnt want a kid getting in the way of her dreams then she should nt have went to bed with the guy. cant ride to horses with one butt

  • @choosing2lookeast yea but you cant leave the child behind just to chase a dream, come on now!

  • This has long been one of my favorite songs, and Dan Seals is a true artist. Thank you Dan, your great music is eternal.

  • This song makes me so sad.

  • DAN SEALS----

the reason why i LOVE country music !!

So sad that he has gone :(

---your music will forever lives in our HEARTS ..

  • san seals considered to be one of the few legends in folk and also country music in all the time and best wishes to him

osman saleh osman -sana'a - yemen

  • beautiful song to be named after. Dan Seals was so great.

  • Dan you were one of the best--along with Dan Fogelberg! I miss both of you greatly, and all the beautiful music you both made! Hey, I hope to see you both in heaven one day! Love, BobbyK

  • Great song. Dan is surely missed. Loved his stuff with England Dan & John Ford Coley too.

  • iam a lefty he inspired me to play guitar and one of my favriotes he will be missed

  • The part where Dan sings "Everybody said you'd make it big someday, and I guess that we were only in your way. But someday, I'm sure you're gonna know the cost. Cause for everything you win there's something lost..." That wonderful and truthful part of the song reminds me so much of my parents' divorce. I live with my pa and my ma is the one that lost.

  • I heard this song on the radio a few days ago, and the lady who was driving the car I was in actually let it play. The other two people in the car didn't mind it either. We caught the part of the song where he says, "Everybody said you'd make it big someday, and I guess that we were only in your way, But someday I'm sure you're gonna know the cost, Cause for everything you win there's something lost..." All I can say is, "How true!" Dan deserves an RIP indeed.

  • my daughter was named kacey after this song

  • My son was working as a pizza cook at the Kelso Theater Pub (WA) in 2001 when Dan Seals played there. We didn't have two nickles to rub together, but my son got me a ticket and I sat in the VIP section. Towards the end of the show, my son came and sat next to me in his apron, sweaty from working all evening, and got me Dan's autograph and a CD. God bless the working man, dude. I will always love this song for what my boy and I went through together.

  • I was named after this song...Casey....haha depressing song to be named after

  • @cgibso13 I was named after the Jeremiah the prophet of doom..

  • THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER RECORDED... We miss you Dan Seals..

  • RIP Dan, We miss you

  • everything that glitters

  • I'm 15 and i still know that this is better than that crap they call "country" on the radio

  • Wonderful song with a powerful message. One of my faves by Dan Seals. RIP.

  • Doesn't matter how long it's been since I've heard the song...I can sing every word. I always loved listening to Dan Seals. Such a good voice.

  • Fantastic song.

  • Can't believe I forgot about this song until I heard it at a truck stop the other day. And after all these years I still remember the lyrics. I knew country radio was dead years ago in '93 or '94 when I requested to hear song to the DJ. He told me it was too old for what they played. That's a shame. What an incredible piece of music.

  • @1echo75 - country music died when they stopped playing COUNTRY music. I was born in 1978 and was raised on Merle, George Jones, Wynn Stewert, Marty Robbins, Waylon, Connie Smith, and many other great country artiists who paved the way for today's popular singers. I don't, however, believe that what is played on radio today is what the old tymers had in mind. It's nothing more than twangy junk these days. It's Sad.

  • To all the wonderful Dan Seals fans: Please post any songs you have from Dan Seals first solo album called:England Dan Stones I ask you to do this because people are very greedy and want hundreds of dollars for the Cd which is a sin! Please honor Dan Seals by posting his songs from the Stones album! Thank you so much! Peace, BobbyK

  • i always feel special when i hear this bc i was named after this song...thanks to my daddy (may he rest in peace) so i always think of him when i hear it

  • I grew up listening to Dan Seals. Some good songs always on my Dad's radio. RIP.

  • What a great singer/songwriter. RIP

  • the best country singer..

  • (March 27, 2011) I listen to almost every kind of music, and this is one of my favorite songs of all time. Dan has an awesome voice!

I raised my daughter by myself, she is 18 now, and moving away 1,500 miles to college this summer, so this song has extra meaning to me/us.

Thank you Dan for this beautiful song. R.I.P.

  • So touching! May you continue to draw closer to the Best Beloved that you faithfully served and adored with your gift of music.

  • Dan... God bless you where ever you are,.This is a masterpiece.

  • ...many men can relate to this song, I happened to marry my 'gold'...but it tarnished real fast...but enough of that. Dan Seals is one of the great's! His songs moved , stopped, and told things straight as a poet...God bless you Dan, and thanks for the memories...I wish music sounded and had the power as it did back then...there are some good singers today, but few and far between...but every generation has said that, no?

  • beutifull song. wish I had a voice like his. but what guy doesnt?

God Bless you, Dan. Wherever God is, you are, too.

  • at least he sang to us for a while now Dan 's singing for God. RIP Dan

  • I didn't know he had died until I came here to listen to him. I listened to him a lot back in the 80's when I was dating the love of my life and I think of her when I hear him. I was also lucky enough to see him 3 times-the last time in a small club in Ft. Lauderdale. I was able to meet him in between sets and he was really nice and unassuming. We talked about the Bahia faith and the Bluebird cafe in Nashville and I was very glad I had gotten to meet him. His music will always be special to me.

  • this song always gives me goose bumps. wat a beautiful song

  • this song always gives me goose bumps. such a beautiful song

  • beautiful song by a beautiful soul.....well done dan we know where you sing now god bless you brother

  • Songs don't come much better than this. Great writing, production and performance. R.I.P. England Dan.

  • Get the audio from this vid at searchripgrab doht cohm.

  • 10 people glitter but are not gold.

  • That part where he says Casey's birthday came just kills me. I love this song..

  • I was lucky and I saw one of his shows in a small club up here in New England. After the show I went out to his bus and he signed my guitar, an Ibanez Artwood Series. We spoke for a minute as he wrote his name; he said he liked Ibanez guitars, “they make a great guitar”. He was as nice as a person could be no airs about him at all. The signature is fading with time; as I continue play the guitar, however the memories of that night remain strong.

    Dan, rest in peace.

  • I love this song! My dad is the one who showed it to me and we will keep hitting the replay button. It is beautifully written and has a great story to go with it.

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Dan several years ago in Hendersonville, TN. I mentioned this song as being one of my favorites. He told me it was his favorite, if he had to pick. He was very warm and friendly, almost shy. Life is short under the best circumstances. Tell someone how much you love them and how much they mean to you, while you can.

  • @Longhammer37214 Blessed !

  • (Jan 4, 2011).

What an amazing Voice! God I love this song!

I'm a single father who by myself raised a wonderful daughter who just turned 18. Her mother told me I can raise her myself, or pay child support. It was the best decision I have ever made. I never looked back, and have absolutely no regrets.

She is very intelligent and caring. She soon starts college for psychology.

Thank you Dan Seals (R.I.P.) & Bob McDill for writing the "perfect song".

  • We miss u Dan! LOVE U BRO!

  • if only country still sounded like this, the older stuff like this is all i listen too

  • Used to listen to this in a little cafe where I was waitress in the middle of nowhere...we had cassettes of Dan Seals, and a few others, and those songs will always be with me. Thats been 20 plus years ago...along with Dan, many of my loved ones from then have been laid to rest...miss you all, miss Dan. The music keeps you all alive in my memories.

  • This has to be another one of my top 10 favorite songs of all time along with The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's "Fishing in the dark." Dan Seals truly had some absolutely, magnificently witten and sung songs.

  • It's sincere and hopeful....

  • If country sounded like this today, I'd listen.

  • @Survivor87

I can not agree with you anymore. Todays country is shit, all pop.

  • @Survivor87 You are right - these days instead of real country music, we have people like Carrie Underwear.

  • my favorite country singer and his best song... RIP DAN..

  • That is Legend there.

  • Question: Years and years ago I heard a version of this song that I feel is perfect. It is a bit slower in that the chorus isn't as "cheery", but rather more somber (which better fits the song). The biggest difference is when he sings about Casey asking questions and he says, "...but there's certain things a man just does...not...know." What a difference the lack of a contraction makes. Anyone else know this version....I can't find it anywhere.

  • @banqual1 Listen to Just the last minute/ minute and a half their the more somber part of the song.

  • Dan hit #1 in Billboard, 7-5-86. God bless! RIP, Dan.

  • I grew on Dan Seals ! I love this song. We miss you Dan !

  • It's so hard to find these great songs sometime, thanks for posting it.

  • am feeling so sad and tears are rolling deep inside my heart to learn that he passed away .what a fallen hero! RIP

  • So; Is Casey her daughter?

  • @hackman12179 , yes, Casey is her daughter in the song, and in a way she becomes the central character of the song. The father is a grown up, and grown guys have to deal with broken love and abandonment, its part of life, but much of his pain is expressed at the treatment of his daughter by the mother...the love of a father for his daughter is all over this song...he always refers to "we"...not "I still make the curcuit", but "we still make the curcuit"...it is a heartbreaking song...

  • @gurlsingerfan Thanks for the answer. I kinda got that from the songbut wasn't sure.

  • A very pretty, but very sad song.

  • Do you guys know if there is a star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood honoring him? If not what a shame!

  • It's amazing that he had a Number 1 hit with that falsetto'.

  • This is a wonder masterpiece....I miss your music Dan

  • RIP Dan!!!

  • Anybody out there got Dan doing My Old Yellow Car? Please post.

  • i like this sing ^_^ if only country music no day's was more like this in stead of that junk they call music *sigh*

  • wonder what kind of 12 string he's playing there.

  • @Efnscreenames

Thats a Tayor. I saw him play a Takamane once in Phoenix. Got to meet him at a show in Phx in '88 and again in '02 when he signed my left handed Laravee. Dan was a lefty but played a right handed guitar upside down. He had very long fingers and could reach chords on a twelve string that would be impossible for amyone else. When I asked him to sign my guitar he waited out in back of the Celebrity Theatre while I got it out of the truck. No other performer woud have done that.

  • As for me and little Casey, we still make the curcuit, in a one horse trailer and a mobile home...she still asks about you all the time, and I guess we never even cross your mind, but oh sometimes I think about you, and the way you used to ride out, in your rhinestones and your sequins with the sunlight on your hair." Heartbreaking poetic line, and from here on out, it becomes such a western heartbreaker, it could be a novel...love of horses, and daughters, and rodeo queens...sad, beautiful.

  • God bless you Dan. You are in our hearts & souls. Thanks for the memories!

  • her birthday came and you never even called, Guess we never cross your mind at all.

    wow, what a powerful line.

Dan always had the pulse of the people.

  • country at its best r.i.p.

  • please check out my site i named my cat after this thanks

  • What a singer, what a man!. This song belongs to Dan Seals. Thank God for Dan Seals and Bob NcDill!

  • My comment, well translated in Spirit voices... Dan, you've given us some sweet music that feed our souls.
