  • That neck pup sounds really good.

  • Great tone and vibrato man!!!

  • ...Been watching a few of your videos for the first time & I gotta say as a player myself (35 years in the Derringer/Lukeather mode) I can tell you got a great tone & a great feel to your soloing style. You don't repeat memorized licks, you know theory. You even have a few guitar setups much like my own. Great use of notes both fast & slow...no overkill on shred & the best part...your vibrato is just like mine. You're a great player & I'd pay to see you (on tour) anytime.

  • @YallSuckTheBig1 Every time I get an email telling me I have one of these comments, I think it's going to be an angry teen telling me how awful I am. Makes me appreciate your sincere compliments even more! Thank you. It's like fuel.

Get some videos up. I came looking for the big vibrato.

  • buy some lacquer!!!!!!

  • @Jst0911 Heh. It's Fender's satin nitro finish. I like it. It wears shiny where you touch the guitar and stays matte everywhere else.

  • Badass Chopper will sound great in the neck of my Strat. Thanks for the demo! I just need to decide for a mid position to pair and tame the nasty X2N I hv in the Bridge.

  • EXCELLENT!

  • mightymite pickups?

  • @MegaDavetastic DiMarzio (Chopper and Pro Track).

  • very cool

  • very cool

  • awesome guitar solo !!! you sure graduate from outstanding school

  • Hey! Just thought I'd let you know that you win at YouTube. You officially have the best tone/skill I've heard on here. Congratulations. You win a free thumbs up! In all seriousness, your playing and your sound are just mind-blowing. Nice vids, sir.

  • @twilightdagger This was super nice of you, TD. It's all the amp! When I watch Daniele Gottardo I sure don't feel of mind-blowing ability. More like I've just figured out crawling, while he can fly. Upside down. Reading Tolstoy.

  • @zombielolocaust I used to own a QuickRod, and while they are some of the best amps ever, a shitty player can make them sound shitty. You make them sound better than even Scott Splawn thought they could sound. Gottardo is pretty awesome, but I've watched most of your videos and you are a super versatile player with a LOT of melody. I still think you're one of the best on the 'Tube and you can't change my mind! ; )

  • Great tone strat tone! Is that straight to the amp or are you pushing it with an od? Sounds beautiful!

  • @RazorDaveInc Cheers, Dave. That's straight in, no funny business. I like as simple a setup as possible (guitar, amp, cab) so only use an OD with my Yngwie Strats, as they meow like tiny baby kittens until they have a pedal for help.

  • What about more stock plexi sounds? I really like to have a stock plexi kinda style sound and put a MXR Distortion+ or a germanium treble booster in front of that rather than a high gain amp sound. I dig guitar tones like 70s Judas Priest (Lets say the tones of Rocka Rolla and Sad Wings Of Destiny).

  • @steelwizard

I'm asking because most of the time Splawn Demos reminds me of Ratt ;)

  • Good playing:) Sounds taste:)

  • nice Sound great playing

  • Great stuff man! I'm looking to get my first stack and am really having trouble picking one. I tried a peavy jsx and that's the only one I've liked so far but your splawn sounds amazing and I'm now considering one of those. Just one question dose splawn have an effects loop?

  • @guitarsgalore11 Yep, they have effects loops. Not the most transparent, but they're useful. Keep checking out Splawn — the tone is hard to beat.

  • @zombielolocaust did you try an old JCM 800 marshall or even a Marshall Vintage modern?. When you try these marshall against the Splawn, you'll see that the QUickrod is weak sounding. The splawn is ok doing lead but when playing rhythm, its no contest against the marshall. I did sold my quickrdo and now i use a vintage modern..

  • @guitarsgalore11 Please consider the Axe-FX and a K10 speaker before you go spending $3000 on another amplifier whose tone you'll become bored of in a few months :D

  • "Bass is for thump junkies that haven't a clue." Did you know that your statement Riffronan is completely bullshit! Bass is actually just as if not more important then guitar. If you didn't have us "Thump Junkies" the crowd wouldn't dance or the drums would have a hard time staying on track.

  • @Whatnameisavailible Whoa there! He's talking about guitarists running tons of bass on their amps, you know, those guitarists who're more concerned with pushing air than playing music. Not badmouthing bass guitar. (This video is a demo of running the bass control very low for a nice midrange growl, hence the comment.)

  • Nice playing and great tone!

  • tHAT sPLAWN MUST HAVE GOBS OF NATURAL BASS. I can't even get that much with my plexi and a strat with the bass cranked.

  • better than Yngwies tone!!!

  • is there much noise on three channel?

  • this is alot like my tone I have at home, I havn't posted a video yet of my regular tone

  • Nice brown tone from the Pro Track. Have you tried this pickup in a live situation, does it cut through the band mix? Thx.

  • wow man...your tone is so sing-songy that I'd be hard-pressed to change anything...the high notes have that Yngwie thing going that makes me *laugh* it's so melodic..bass is for thump junkies that haven't a clue...the guitar IS midrange and that is where the sweet spot/magic lies

  • @Riffronan I really appreciate this comment. Sing-songy! We have similar tastes it seems. Cheers.

  • my pleasure, man...damn, is it Scotland from which you hail? I'm straight up half German/half Irish...gotta try a Guiness in an Olde Pub. The MacCallan 10yr Oak is my favorite Scotch of all time btw... keep making the videos.

  • @Riffronan i think i know what u mean about the high notes sounding like yngwie. its cuz yngwie's vibratos are very wide. this guy has a similar vibrato. :)

  • @Acidrain1993 hey, I can see that now as I re-watch his video..I actually attributed Zombie's vibrato being similar-sounding to Yngwie on account of his tone..instead of his technique...oof..good call...!

  • Is that a Bill Lawrence at the neck?

  • Chopper. I'd like to try a Lawrence.

  • Does not sound thin to me, sounds really warm and organic. Very nice, def a bit of the YJM 'sweetness with attack' in there. Ignore the haters!

    Sounds great!

  • I did not say it sounded thin. I bought my Splawn because of his videos. I know that he is always working to get the best tone by trying different thing, especially speaker changes. I thought he would like to try a Hot Plate because I think he will dig the results. My Splawn Competition sounds better with the THD than it did before. My Splawn sounds great either way. I have 2 Yngwie strats so I appreciate all of his videos. No offense was EVER intended. I think Gray will love the THD Hot Plate.

  • Sorry man, by my comment to him regarding the 'haters' I was not including you AT ALL. I agree that bringin out the power tube sound is where a lot of the magic happens! ;-)

    Peace!

  • :-) the power tubes are giving me a thicker, warmer strat tone. I am still not cranking the loop master on the back of my Splawn. The volume knob is set at around 9:00 clock face position. This way I am not over attenuating the volume with the Hot Plate. I get to push the loop master harder with the THD so I use more of the power section now. It does sound better to my ears.

  • Get A THD Hot Plate for your Compy. I just did and the power tube distortion makes a WORLD of difference, plus you will have all kinds of ways to control your volume. I am kicking myself for not getting one before. I am getting better Yngwie tones than ever with this thing. The thicknees and warmth of your tone will be increased dramatically. I also dumped the rack and i am going with pedals now. The EVH Phase 90 is a lot of fun.

  • Remember that my bass control is almost off here to make it thin and crunchy, 80s hair band style! My tone's not normally this thin.

  • You have GREAT tone! Your tone is what made me buy a Splawn in the first place. I don't think your tone sounds thin in ANY of your videos. I never thought my tone was lacking ANYTHING before I got the Hot Plate; but......wow! It really added something I never knew was missing. After playing through the Hot Plate the first time I almost kissed the thing. I have NEVER been able to nail the Yngwie thing like you do, but the Hot Plate gets me MUCH closer to old Yngwie & VH tones. You will love a THD

  • how did you learn to play like that?

Just copy others or proper lessons?

  • Hmm, I don't know. I took some lessons as a teen, and went to music college, but mostly I think it's just from noodling around a lot. I'm still not very clean. If I'm having trouble with something I try to see how someone really good does it, like Gilbert or Malmsteen.

  • Interesting you say this, I actually sold that orange modded Marshall I had because it had too much bass!

  • I heard Yngwie. Cool.

  • Totally agree brother! With that info to the right>>>>

The Splawn don't shine at plexi, but if you want a great plexi type tone....I use gear 1 with the bass at 8:00. Splawns have a lot of bass.

  • Cool Stuff!

  • NIce tone

  • I agree! Everyone always seems to be all about the "chug." Kinda annoying sometimes!

  • PLAY WAY COOL JR.!

  • As always, your playing kicks butt. I really love that guitar too! You must've ordered a custom pickguard for the two singles. I'd like to order a warmoth neck w/ reverse headstock too - it just looks 'right'.

  • I see your amp in the background there, was it turned up much?

  • A bit.

  • Dude, you totally have that Yngwie-style vibrato down. Ecellent!

  • Thanks man, I think vibrato is important.
