Alan Hudson was a superb player and England should bow their head in shame as to how they ignored him. A brilliant debut against West Germany and another cap in the 5 -0 defeat of Cyprus and that was it. Never played again. No coincidence whatsoever that England ignored Hudson - and Bowles, Currie, and Marsh for the most part - and didn' t qualify for world cups in 1974 or 1978. Carlton Palmer got more caps than all of them put together, I think.
Too right mate, I think Don Revie was one of Englands managers at that time and I think he had a personal grudge against huddy. I show my sons and my grandson these clips just to let them know i aint exaggerating when i tell them we used to have the best midfield in the land @ this time. CMON STOKE!!
was it hugh john commentating, used to think he was a bit dodgy, he got it right though about huddy, superb ghosting run, that and his magic short passing game was what made alan the legend he still is to those of us who had the privelege to watch him play...
Thank you for sharing this. I grew up watching Huddy play midfield for the Seattle Sounders after he had worn out his welcome in England. He was 27 when he came over and still very much at the top of his game, although he had a tendency to get injured. Nevertheless, he was quite obviously world class, and just a lovely, lovely player. I would have killed to be able to play midfield like that. Too bad he liked drink too much. Memories.
