The Taleban had nothing to do with 9/11, and even offered to cut off his head if we provided proof he was responsible for 9/11, but even the FBI says there is no evidence connecting Osama to 9/11.
Before 9/11, the Taleban were invited to the US in hopes of convincing them to agree to a pipeline across Afghanistan--they came to the US, but refused to allow the pipeline. It was then that they became enemies.
The Taleban never attacked us and were never a threat.

The Taliban would easily retake Iraq, Afghanistan and take Pakistan and then gain the power to pull off another attack.

These are admirable things, by our standards, but they are a drop in the ocean. Afghanistan is vast - it is impossible to control militarily, there will never be stability in that land as the people do not want it! They do not live by Democracy or our values - even thier "liberals" are hardline muslims and are scathing of the West.
