I think of Goldeneye, proberbly as one of the best, if not the best Bond film till date. And yes, I was born in 1990, yes I grew up with Brosnan as Bond. But I can say that it is NOT influenced due to the N64 game.(shamefully I never really played the FPS classic.) What really does it for me is that Brosnan revived the series so well, and it feels so fresh out of all previous 16 movies, that it still stands out for me. And I for one think the BGM in the movie is actually brilliantly different
I've watch all of your reviews of the Bond movies and The Dark Knight and I must ask, why do you feel the need to pronounce names differently than how they were pronounced in the films? It doesn't make you seem smart, rather just not very well learned in the material you're reviewing.
i think after nearly twenty years Goldeneye is abit of an Emporers new clothes and rather overratted. At the time we hadnt had Bond for six years and were grateful for him to be back but it is a very predictable effort. Its very cliched and formulaic. Good for the time but doesnt work now. We've been spoilt with Dalton and Craig in the Bond stakes. Brosnan was the formula Bond and not my favourite. The generation who came to it via computer game tend to make it the sacred cow it really isnt.
I understand why some people feel that Brosnan's Bond is a composite of previous Bond actors. But I'd put that flaw more at the hands of the producers. Making the Bond so successful again meant that Brosnan had to appeal to everyone and therefore lack's any real defining characteristics. Brosnan gets to create people in 'The Fourth Protocol' and 'Tailor of Panana'. With Bond, he just gets to create a movie icon.
I dont get it, you say if a computer were to create the perfect james bond he would turn up like this and Brosnan is exactly how you would imagine him to look, he's perfect, so that means he's your LEAST favorite bond?
I don't get it- you criticise Brosnan for having no personality and then criticise Dalton for having too much... But yes, Brosnan should really call himself superman in this film; that and his overtly sexist attitude make me really hate him at times. You could say Connery was sexist too but he made it a silly joke. Brosnan just appears to be a big headed egoist.
It also has that Goldfinger quality of having loads of individual scenes that are memorable. This maybe due to the game though. It's funny but watching it now is like seeing the game played out with real actors. It's like I've been there. I don't hate Brosnan but he comes across as very smug. Moore was but in a tongue in cheek way whereas Brosnan acts like he beleives he'd be hot eating his cornflakes. And the sensitive crap never worked with him. I give the film an 8
I realy like this film but it has nothing to do with Brosnan. For me he's wooden like Lazenby and just swans around trying to look pretty. He's a bit more charasmatic but he realy tries too hard. What I like about the film is the music which apart from John Barrys best is the best music heard in a bond film. It fits the russia setting and feels dark and modern (well it did). Martin Campbell is a great directer as well and what a femme fatale in Famke Janssen
I like Brosnan as Bond (liked Dalton too) but it seemed the filmmakers were never sure about what kind of Bond he should be, what setting to put the stories in or what kind of Bond story to tell. Goldeneye is uneven but it was still an encouraging reappearance of Bond after several years. The music (like NSNA) is disappointing and at times the new take on Bond does feel a bit dreary. Martin Campbell and the cast did their best with what they were given. Script was written for Dalton.
