There are plenty of studio recordings, where the singer sings one line at a time in the studio, and the producer uses pitch shifters to tweak it, and the song has no meaning or message at all. I believe the modern music industry has trained us all to expect a kind of fake perfection that does not occur live. Your emphasis on pitch is why we have so many processed acts instead of artists with something to say! I commend you for being respectful in your criticism, though.
I record singing, voices and songs every day of my life. And I don't use pitch correction or processors to correct said voices. Yes I agree that the industry is ruining music with mainstream & pop music, BUT that doesn't mean that you can't record a good track without pitch-correcting programs. There are COUNTLESS huge artists that sing live PERFECTLY without pitch correction. All I'm saying is if you are a big enough fan of music that you'll listen to the message AND appreciate on-key music!

We have similar taste in music which is probably why we ended up here. I think I can compare her to Dylan, because she's a brilliant lyricist who incorporates folk and early rocknroll idioms. She also has a great gift for melody.

I got the quote right. what makes you think I am close minded towards mainstream acts? the biggest singer on YT right now is Julia Nunes (rampant pitch problems). The biggest singer ever is Madonna (nuff said). But you're getting all nit-picky on someone who writes truly substantial material. Why would you want to discredit her and her voice?
Julia Nunes is so good tho! She doesn't pick the worst vowel that you could possibly hold out for 10 seconds and shift pitches like mad!! ALSO Julia and her guy-partner both take MULTPLE takes and overdub if you can even tell! They have recordings of their screw-ups and outtakes posted right with their regular stuff!
I'm not criticizing her. I was only responding to the question of pitch and giving her as an example of someone who makes good music that is often off key.
You become a musician/artist/painter/poet to get that message across, but you're also living a lifestyle and trying to make an honest dollar, and the only way to make that dollar is by having fans who will pay to listen to you or hear your poetry or view your art, etc. She HAS TALENT and good message, but ANY MUSICIAN who wants to make that living must learn to perform as you record and practice. High-end technology isn't necessary to achieve this, but you do have to do what you do well C? :)

Rachel, this song reminds me so much of "Where Have All the Flowers Gone." There is a repetitiveness about the melody and some lyrics that is so effective in conveying the absurdity of war, after war, after war.
Except for some images, I wouldn't have limited this song to Iraq alone but to all war. The song has such universality.
Artistically, I think you've done a perfect job of softening your voice at the right points and strengthening it at others.

Your songs/vids. are always worth watching many times. I would not complain myself. Problem may be that by being your subie, KavKat subie and a Flutter subie, between you all I do get many repeats. It is not your fault! But it does add up to a lot of vids.That we check and then say "Oh Dang I was hopeing it was a new one". It's a youtube thing that I hope they can come up with a way to skip repeats. But I want you and kavkat and flutter to keep sending please! You all make my world rock! Aloha

awesome Rachel, war was developed by the greedy solely for the purpose of themselves with no consciousness of what it does to the rest of us, my only question is: is this really necessary? No one listens, the people who do listen dont do anything about it. Both my uncles protested VietNam, burned their draft cards and moved to Canada in the early 70's, now Canada has the same problems....

I know that today those opposed to the war hold the policy makers responsible and not the soldiers themselves. So as a country, we should be more united than during the Vietnam era.
