@Paddy818 Nicola Rescigno conducted. It was a great performance and the recording itself is better than the Dallas recording. You can hear both Callas and Vickers in the duets better here.
Maria live is always 1,000% more compelling than Maria in the recording studio; I think it's because she has a theatre to fill and an audience to reach. This excerpt from Medea is a prime example, but there are many others: "Giudice ad Anna?" from BOLENA ios my favorite example.
You have that right, this is a fabulous performance, and anyone who doesnt think she still had it together in all of 1959 better listen to these performances.
Absolutely incredible, only the dramatic remains, well beyond quality of tone and voice, or difference of style, these kinds of performances will touch people forever.
THis is what singing is all about! The tragedy and intenseness in her voice paired with the haunting quality of the scene is pure brilliance. Goosebumps.
Great Video! I loved the way you mixed the opera recording of the greatest medea of them all with the scenes of the movie! You should do that for some other arias as "son vane Qui menace" and Ah Triste canto! Thanks a lot!
I think I like this better than the famous Dallas performance. Who's conducting? Incredible singing and style!
