The background singer is Peter Gabriel's close friend Youssou Ndour. He's a popular Senegalese singer.  They've done many collaborations together.

The scene in the movie with this music playing in the background is the entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. In my opinion, it's one of the best scenes in any movie I've ever watched.
