Sorry they forgot to add the lyrics. It was irritating the shit out of me. These guys have a whole complex story going on, but they prefer to the story in unhearable text and all the character dialog in voices. I was confused as hell when I first heard these songs.

I think the only reason people don't like Emily is because all the other vocals to this point have been male. hearing her voice is a stark contrast to the masculine tones we've been used to to this point. Her voice fits the setting and the tone and she hits all the right notes.

Joe is a human. The robot with a red eye is a Sniper Unit. It is not called anything else in the liner notes. Dr. Wily renamed the robots "Sniper Joes" after Joe dies for an extra jab at Light's miserably failed plan.

@tlasz24 Rgh, youtube isn't posting my comments. Sniper Joe and Joe are not the same character. Joe is the boy who resolves to leave the city in Breaking Out. He is attacked by a Sniper Joe in Keep Quiet, but at the end of the song, saved by Light. Light then decides to team up with Joe to free the city. The Sniper Joe is responsible for the murder of Emily, at Wily's command. It's spelled out in the liner notes, and really obvious when they perform it live.

I guess a lot of the confusion there seems to come from the fact that there's a human character named Joe, and the robot is heavily implied to be a Sniper Joe... the similar names make it difficult to distinguish them. Although, really, the Sniper Joe is just referred to as "the sniper robot" and said to have one eye (like Sniper Joe does). I guess that makes it less confusing.

@dwhit8 No, see, Sniper Joe IS a human in the Protomen story line. The robot is merely a sniper assassin. When Joe dons the helmet, he becomes "Sniper Joe", a man hell bent on vengeance. Sniper Joe is a good guy in this time line basically. The robot is known as "Light's Monster", according to the script. Apparently the public believe it to be a robot made by Dr. Light, "the criminal".

Wily comes to her and offers her a chance to leave with him and abandon Light because he knows soon he will rule the city and Light will be an outcast. She refuses because she loves him, and Wily orders his assassin robot (the sniper/Sniper Joe) to kill her.
