For all that Japan did throughout the war, it really is incredible the amount of pride they put into ships like the Yamato. I suppose, in the end, both sides were really fighting for their countries; in my opinion, that has to be respected.
There was no advance warning by the British. If there had been, Pearl Harbor would have been cleared of all vessels, and Hawaii would have been on full alert before the attack. Combat air patrols would have been aloft all daylight hours to meet any attack. England was already at war against Hitler. However, an attack by Japan on America did not require Hitler to declare war since the Axis treaties were defensive and mandated unity only if an Axis partner were attacked.
Actually Myanmar is a name of Burma changed in 1989 by Military Junta but both names are still in use in some parts of the world so there is no mistake here.
Maybe you should read some history before you say stuff like that? I am not american, but I do know the americans didn't start the war against Japan. In fact, the japan was trying to create a world regime by going to war. Go back to school and read some history, stupid.
Every nation has their own beliefs. This is no one can take away. But the aggressor doomed to fail. The interests of peace and it is not balanced, the human has a desire to be terrible.
"I´m still wonderin that this movie is only available in original language"
No sir, it's available with english and spanish subtitles. I think the disk I had one time also had Swedish subtitles, but I don't know if any Duetsche or Francaise.
"(Pearl Harbor wasn´t an sneak attack "
A well known and well discredited theory, not believed by serious historians. For one, early in the war Americans would have tried to save cruisers, not carriers: only later were carriers considered central.
Wow, it must really chap your ass you're writing that on a US website in English- and that it's your only recourse. I can see how such a complete dearth of relevance would cause lashing out like that.
The irony of history. Many of us feel for the men onboard Yamato. But if we exist in the time 60years ago, we would be busy killing each other. If I exist 60years ago, I'll probably believe the wartime propaganda and de-humanize the Japanese. Time, place, the socio-political conditions we lived in determine our relationship with another fellow human.
I don't have my own website but you can check "Kamikaze 1946" and "Luftwaffe 1946" on Google for more info, along with Antarctic Press' Forums under "Tigers and Beyond". My back issues are also sold on ebay. On my book, the Shinano was completed as a battleship in 1943 and fought against the Montana-class USS Arizona in Tokyo Bay in December 1946.
The book "Warships of the Imperial Japanese Navy 1869-1945" by Naval Institute Press have good info on the "Super and Baby Yamatos".
Thank you. And don't forget about the "Baby Yamatos", the B64/65 battlecruiser design. It's basicly a smaller version of the Yamato that was never built. Ironically this design was influenced by the report of the American Alaska class battlecruisers under construction which itself was influenced by a rumor that the Japanese was building a "pocket-battleship" type battlecruiser.
The B64/65 battlecruiser did appear in my fictional "Luftwaffe:1946" book over a decade ago.
Thank you. I wish I did more on the subject. Currently I'm working on a color story titled "Wings of the Samurai". It's about a Japanese Army Air Force Test Center at Fussa (a place where I grew up as a kid and my grandfather was a commander there) testing the new prototypes including the Luftwaffe and some captured Allies one. I'm also going to mention about the Army aircraft carriers which we know little about.
Yes, at Yamato's 27 knots, it was pretty fast for its size, partly due to the bow design but the Iowa class had more powerful engines and was faster. "Super-Yamato" would be lucky if they can exceed 25.
About a decade ago, I did a brief story about the "Super-Yamato", in my "Kamikaze:1946" series. They were named Kii and Owari with four forward 20" guns and the aft decks were converted to launch Ohka missiles. In my series they were just slightly heavier than the Yamatos at 91.000 tons.
Japan was also planning to build at least two "super-Yamatos" armed with 20" guns but that plan was shelved to build more cariers after the Midway disaster.
I agree. Nagato was the world's first 16" gun battleship. The Americans can say the same for the USS Enterprise (CV-6).Now Japan's only real battleship that's still preserved is the pre-WWI Mikasa. Glad that that was saved.
I really got excited when I saw the full-scale mock-up of the Nagato on the movie Tora Tora Tora in 1970. Thank you Mr. Kurosawa. Too bad that that too wasn't saved. I would've kept it in my back yard as a guest house.
True. Nagato was the last Japanese battleship to survive (until used as part of an a-bomb test) but the Musashi was the last battleship built by Japan.
Her size exceeded the American Aircraft carriers of that time. Truly a modern marvel. Outgunned with no air support, she was doomed to the bottom of the sea.
Manned by perhaps the bravest men a country could have, they died with honor serving their country to the bitter end.
Neever forget that there was intel on the pearl hrabor related communication.
For those who were drawning a parallel between Pearl Harbor and 9/11 it's quite interresting to see that the United States got caught on the same weakness : too much information... the only différence between 9/11 and pearl harbor is that in both case they detained intel but for 9/11 they were not able to extract it.
Remember those childs who fought and died for peace but also for a bunch of greedy men's.
Sailors from all nations were brave and did their duty as best they could. This is a beautiful tribute to the ship and crew. Enjoy the video, but remember the war has been over more than 60 years ago!
"The Yamato Is Such A Great Tale Of That Fighting Spirit And Bravery, Sacrifice, and Heroism."
Thats true is like in the tales from "numancia" the town that resisted to the siege from Romans, no matter the result you do your best, then rest in peace, dead or alive. And enter to History like a hero. Long live to those who die for others can live.
Ummmm Friend, I Am A Person Who Doesn't Care For This Country's Government Either, LOL i Mean Come On We're Losing Freedom Almost Everyday It Seems.
But Don't hate The Country Because Some Idiots Who Run It Think Otherwise, I've Never Been Outside of My Native Soil And Quit Frankly I Would Love To Visit Japan Or Some Other Country.
The Yamato Is Such A Great Tale Of That Fighting Spirit And Bravery, Sacrifice, and Heroism.
True, But Hey Thats An Old Issue, LOL I Got No Problem With Any0one From Any Race Or Nationality, I got Some Japanese Friends, Pearl harbor Was Just One Of Those Things In History.
But It Doesnt Affect How I Feel About Anyone, Except My Own Government, My Grandfather Always Believed That Our President At The Time Knew It Was Coming So it Aint No Ones Fault But HIS That Pearl harbor Happened.
It was called a sneak atatck becasue Japan's ambassadors where claiming wanting peace and declared war after the raid. The Government had to know a raid was coming but they expected it in the Phillipines region not Pearl due to know one figured the Jap Fleet could have gotten so far undetected and already had massive forces in the area of SE Asia. We got caught with our pants down at Pearl plain and simple.
I'll Explain, It Was Called A Sneak Attack because It Happened On A Sunday When there Were No Auir Patrols And All The Guards Were In Sunday Church Services, the Radar Detected The Planes However A Group Of AMERICAN Planes Was Overdue And They Thought The Bombers Were American.
However Its Called A Sneak Attack I ALSO do not believe that, i believe someone higher up knew it was going to happen and LET IT HAPPEN.
December 7th 1941 World War Two In The Pacific Began.
A Sneak Attack On The American Naval And Armed Forces At PEARL HARBOR Hawaii, The Japanese Force Comprised Of Over 500 Ships. 200 Aircraft Launched A 2 phase Air Raid On Pearl Harbor Which Smashed The Docked Fleet, All But Three Of The Battleships Were Repaired And Returned To Duty later On In The War.
A THIRD Wave of dive Bombers Was Canceled And The Fleet Sailed Back To Japan
A perfect video to the memory of the great battleship Yamato by the Japanese. Really an outstanding video that you've really done because it is something I have not seen for a long time was certainly a lot of work.
