He took the whip out after the turn to get distance after he past the fillies, but if you look, once he turns his head and sees where he is, he stands up and eases on her, it is very clear he is not pressing her... and she STILL sets a new stakes record.
Ruffian was never asked to run in the 1975 MG, and she was ridden under pretty much a hand gallop from the 1/4 pole. As for Z, it's tough for a closer to set any records.
this race shouldn't even count. Lousy competition burn themselves out in a speed duel. Of course she wins by 19. Horses come within a second of the track record all the time. Had she come within a fifth of a second would've been something to brag about.

Her "competition" was a joke, very minimal, can't wait to see what she'll do against some REAL horses, like Zenyatta for instance, undefeated in 11 starts go Zenyatta!

They passed 1.08 and she passed it in 109 and change (she was also flying)..Still finished in 1.46 and change in a good track (less than a second of the track record held by secretariat)..
Zenyatta did 1.48 in that super fast track..
RA and Zenyatta with other fillies, it won't be a match. RA will run away and Zenatta will come for second..
That's what I've woried about, by the time Zenyatta makes her move RA will be 6-7 lengths in front and Yatta will either not catch her or get nipped at the wire after a breif stretch duel.
Joseymaru....can you please tell me what record and track you are refering to that she was with in a second of Secretariat's time? I do not recall him running a 8 or 9 furlong race at Belmont. Thanks

Secretariat won the first Marlboro Cup at Belmont and still holds the track record for that 1 1/8 mile (9 furlongs). 145.40..
RA was less than a second (1.46.33) of that track record set by Secretariat.
