Some of the views of Syd by many people seem to focus on his decline blah blah; all the prying (yet fascinating and necessary in a way) pictures of him in his later years show a seemingly ordinary chap stricken with the ravages of that "disease" we all hate; aging. We all wanted so much more from him, but he left us on a cliff edge. Fair play to him.
so sad to see syd like this. he was a magnificent creature before he got brain damage. i wish they'd investigate his last day as the old syd where he went and what happened. in an interview with rick wright he said syd left a taping on wednesday, didn't show up friday, was found sunday and was this new guy. not in a good way. what happened in those 2 days? it should be investigated before everyone who may have seen him then is dead.
Lots of mythology about this dude. He sucked. His music was nutty and boring and he needed to leave the band. He took way too much drugs. Pink Floyd's best music came after Syd got the boot.
This song is written by the band: Television Personalities. When David Gilmour heard it he invited the band to join pink floyd in their shows..however, the lead singer did a stupid thing during the concert: he told the audience the address of Syd's house..the band was then kicked out by pink floyd from their shows
I wonder if Dan Treacy really did visit him? Man, there would have been nothing greater than to be on speaking terms with Syd. I don't reckon he was mad, just tuned in.
I find it sad and tragic that we still have no clue as to why the human brain fails and people sink into what we call madness. What we know is that some otherwise healty individuals can react really badly to chemical drugs such as LSD and never be the same person after taking it. To conclude I think that untill the medical field acquires new knowledge and can heal the brains and minds of humans I recommend no one experiments with mind altering drugs like LSD.Rest in peace my friend Sid Barret.
maybe so, but it´s raw and fragil and closer to Syd Barret and the early Pink Floyd.... I guess nowadays I like earlier stuff better... and I like this song by the TVP´s..
i heard about this song in the kurt cobain diaries. it was in a list of his favorite songs and i thought it was just the coolest haunting name for a song
So you did, that's cool!! There's also a live cover with The Soft Boys doing Astronomy Domine (Two Halves For the Price Of One LP)and a nice, if not complete, video of Robyn Hitchcock doing accoustic cover of Dominoes(bonus cut on the official "Story of PF & Syd Barrett" DVD). Love it!!
Yea.They're what you call no talent hacks."leetle man, leetle house"So lame! They're using Gnome too. Have you heard the rest of their songs? The ones that they had to write themselves? All crap. This creep thought it would cute to announce Syd's address to a stadium; give the stalkers some assistance. Just check out the new version of this "band". Pathetic.
In 1984, David Gilmour (Barrett's replacement in Pink Floyd) was promoting a solo album. He had heard I Know Where Syd Barrett Lives and liked the track enough to invite the Television Personalities on tour with him. It was a short-lived relationship though. During a gig in London, Dan Treacy (TVP's lead singer) read out Barrett's actual home address on stage. This was not a popular move with Gilmour, who had them dropped from the rest of the tour.
I heard Pink Floyd esp David Gilmour were furious about this band. They invaded his privacy and im sure they leaked his address to the public.... thats wrong
WOW.....since I found this through searching for old Syd gems....I came to find myself investigating the rest of the 'Television Personalities library and, from what else I found on you tube.....I think this must be the best thing they ever did....
haha, it's funny listening to all you po-faced Pink Floyd fans whinge about this song doing syd a disservice when really it captures syd's sense of humour perfectly. Wish you we're here, although a great song, isn't as fitting a tribute as this.
i swear hes like a mute. its just roger waters talking all the time. actually at the end of one song on here he says "yeah. thats right." lol thats all ive ever heard.
the last person who did try and speak to him, journalist wise, was when his greatest hits came out and he appearded from no-where after all those years, he said "i think you better stop, i dont do that thing anymore" (or words to that meaning)
cant even watch that whole video,,, the suong sux ass the guy who wrote it should kill himself, and these assholes wouldnt leave syd barrett the fuck alone!
now everyone knows where syd barrett lives!David Gilmour chucked this load of idiots off a tour they were supporting him on in the 80's for telling a packed audience where syd barrett lived...i bet he'd of loved that.
The song was originally recorded by The Television Personalities in 1980. The actual tune is essentially a copy of "Only Women Bleed" by Alice Cooper.
Nah, this version is a cover by an Italian band called Sixtynine & The Continuous People. The original is by Daniel Treacy's Television Personalities.
I enjoyed this song, After " I know where he lives." They sample Astronomy Domine. The rest of the song is reminiscent of Brain Damage. In My opinion.
No need to ask _David_ Gilmour anything. The Television Personalities repaid the opportunity to open for Gilmour in the early '80s by announcing at a concert Syd Barrett's Cambridge address. They were immediately booted off the tour and nobody's heard from them since.
I knew that. That is why I said ask Gilmour. I loved Syd, too, but no way would I have ever approached him or gone to his home. He chose a private life and, as he said, "I'm not what you think I am anyway."
