I think your situation is the same as mine was. What you have to do is go to Preferences in SL and go to Graphics Detail and change Lighting Detail to Nearby Local Lights from Sun and moon only and you should get it.

gamerkev: Longer-term, we have some plans to make the experience better for teens... I know that sounds nebulous and I can't say more yet, but it's important!

MrDeftino: Make sure you have a supported graphics card, then Edit menu > Preferences > Graphics Detail should have Lighting Detail set to "Nearby local lights". And that should work. I hope!

Another lateral tip, not sure how long this will work for but: if you link a flexiprim to a regular prim as the parent, then unlink them, the middle of the flexiprim will be solid (e.g., *not* phantom). While I'll disclaim content you create shouldn't depend on this as it appears to be buggy behavior, it's an intriguing quirk.

Hi Torley, -- Sometime during my first week, I saw one of your camera tutorial videos. One of the things which sticks out was the flexi red cape one of the people was wearing in the background. I hadn't heard about flexi yet, and I'm a costumer IRL, so it caught my attention. In general, your videos are a source of ideas for places to check out. SL is so huge, it can be overwhelming, so things like some of the blogs and your videos are very helpful for acculturating.
