My set up is:

OS: Windows Vista Home Basic (lol)

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3800+ @ 2.4 GHZ

GFX: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

Memory: 3GB DDR2 RAM

HD: 180 GB

and I get about 9 FPS outdoors. Do you think it's because of my shit processor? It's single core.

best way to play gta it helped me a few fps

install a new copy of vista and only install 1 internet browser and just gta iv and then gamebooster and run game booster to help you with alot and it should play better :) in low settings though

I had the same kind of rig in 2009. I upgraded my GPU and processor for more power. I had a 8500GT/Athlon 64 X2 5000+. I now have a HIS HD4670/Athlon II X2 245. both overclocked. I can run GTA IV highest detail, 1280x1024 (native) with over 30 fps :)

I downloaded the game of steam yesterday all installed and everything then after I log in it says I need xp SP3 or Vista SP1 but I have SP2 for vista, is there any way for me to get that fixed?

yea i have windows 7 and i played gta 4 on xp service pack 2 and it was pretty good no lag of course with a phenom II x4 955 you dont have lag xD but i tired this game on windows 7 and was working soooo smoothly

hey i got gta IV yesterday installed it, put the settings to medium and 1024x768 and i cant even move the cursor its so laggy? any suggestions? i updated to the last patch!

ive been playing crysis, world of warcraft,

Because that you have only 2.5GB of ram.. you can put atleast 3FB or 4GB of ram and see is your PC GTA IV getting laggy... If it is getting laggy then PM me with the Screenshot of Your Graphics Settings on PC GTA IV..

omg i have 8500 gt 512 mb ddr 2 and amd athlon x2 5200+ 2.7ghz and 1 gb of ram ad i run it on 1024x768 and medium with latest patch and nvidia tweaks and commandline and gta optimizer and i have oc-ed the carrd with voltahe raise on differend air cooling from the original and the cpu is at 3.3 ghz with air cooling and next week im getting the air cooling for my new system but i will be getting the system a month later so im going to oveclock the cpu to at least 3.8 with voltage raise ofcource

I upgraded to Windows 7 RC to test out some games n stuff, GTA IV now runs almost perfect on my rig. everything med/high at 1024x768, also u have 2.5gb ram? if your ram are running at different clock speeds that could slow your comp down alot, remove the 512mb ram if its slower in mhz

Well i get lag after a while of play, i think its because im on vista and only have 2gb ddr2 ram, i think this game requires alot of ram :)

I have a better spec than you do but how is it that when i put every settings on low (1024x768), i get ultra lag like 10+fps only with stutters when car moves very fast? Oh btw, here's my spec

The problem is that laptops lag more than desktop computers, get yourself some money and buy a desktop computer.

well for one, the 32 bit version of windows vista only makes use of 3GB of your ram, upgrading to 64 bit will help and improve performance alot, but like i said before, this game is very GPU hungry, your graphics card may not be fast enough to get higher fps

If you havnt got the cash and want a performance increase, right click your computer, then click properties, then advanced settings, then the top settings, then choose "Adjust for best performance" then play :)
