If you are standing still on it, the display will show the battery status in %, it will only start if this is above 75. If you would start at 100 and drive for a long time, I guess your in trouble :) It will get a bit sloppy though before its too late so you know when to step off.

I know you developed this independently, but I'm certain you'd run afoul of Dean Kamen's patents covered with his Segway if you ever attempted to market this. Cool work, though.
