Thanks a lot for that video, really help me to replace my cartrige, no instruction on the replacement part telling you how to use the small plastic tool to remove the old cartrige.
Thanks for this video! Ours has a plastic piece around everything that would have to be removed before the hourshoe thing, but we can't figure out how to remove it. Any ideas?
Sounds to me like it is a white plastic corregated ring that can be removed by undoing the nut on top and pulling it off. If I am not mistaken I believe it is not needed on the faucet, but it does look a little odd. I have only seen it a few times before.Thanks for commenting and good luck! Al P.S. Let me know how you get along....
okay here's the problem, we don't know which replacement cartridge to buy! and we can't get it out without the handy little plastic thingy that comes with the replacement. what the heck? any ideas?
If only real life were so simple...the brass cartridge I'm attempting to replace, well, the brass decided it didn't want to leave...the stem pulled out, leaving the brass housing virtually welded to the faucet...now trying to chisel it out...may have to replace the faucet. Only good old WASHER type faucets for me from now on!
@phillyflash43 Hey Philly; sorry to hear about your trouble.Nine out of ten cartridges are made of plastic.The older ones were all made of brass.What happens with the brass ones is that it binds together with the faucet itself.I can only wish you luck on that change over.It has happened to me a few times and I was lucky enough to pick one out, but I usually end up changing the faucet.The problem is that if you mark the inside of the faucet the o-ring will not seal properly.Good luck Phil! Al
@TheOldkid888 I got it out eventually, using a tap & a 1/2 inch bolt & wrench. BUT the new cartridge leaked around the sides (of the hole), which were deformed by my twisting the old cartridge round & round. Moen phone support said I should have only trwisted it back and forth (but I don't think that would have avoided a damaged faucet) -- but moen's sending a free replacement :) Although I understand the stuff sold to consumers is a lower quality than the one my plumber supplied...
@TheOldkid888 Also...I had always used the cheaper plastic cartridges, even though the clerk said the brass ones last waay longer (very true), worth the extra two bucks (they still sell the brass btw) The plastic ones seem to wear out in only a couple years, but this brass one lasted, I don't know, 7 or MORE years & still it never leaked, I only tried to replace it because the stem had become a bear to raise & lower. WHO DESIGNS THESE FLAWED PRODUCTS ANYWAY? LOL...
@phillyflash43 Hey Philly;I can relate to the bear situation on some cartridges.I know they still sell the brass one,but they can be VERY difficult to remove.I have not had as big a problem with the plastic.As far as the amount of time they last;alot depends on your water.The more minerals in the water,the shorter the life span.Thanks for commenting and I hope you have a large day!...Oh, by the way,I had nothing to do with the design...LOL...I still like the product. Al
We replaced the stuff you are showing exactly - and it went well - but when we turned on the faucet - water was spraying out every where - worse then it was before. What should we do now?
@hearthug8152 hello there; So you have replaced the cartridge and that went fine. Congrats on that!!! If the water is spraying out from every where it sounds like the o-rings around the spout have to be replaced.PIck up a moen spout o-ring kit and that should take care of the problem. Thanks for commenting and good luck! Al
@tailtail75 So you have all of the old cartridge out of the faucet.The old one then looks just like the new one?correct?Take a flashlight or a light of some source and check to see if there is not something in the faucet itself.Perhaps a piece of the old cartridge.The new cartridge should slide into the faucet without too much effort.let me know how you got along....Al...PS.Is the old cartridge made of plastic or brass?
@tailtail75 Hello there; I have been doing this for quite sometime now.It is just an experience thing. The most important part of removing the cartridge is actually using the little white tool that comes with the cartridge. It breaks the seal between the cartridge and the faucet and allows you to remove the old cartridge with a pair of channel locks,pliers or vise-grips. Thanks for your comments and have a great day!!! @tthoy1 Hello;
I am hoping that anyone working on a faucet of any type will turn the water off, but I maybe mistaken with that. I will add it with an annotation.
Thanks for your comments and enjoy your day! Al
