Yeah the North certainly kicked the South. Only about a hundred thousand more Northerners died. The northerners had such a mighty enemy though, you know those outnumbered farmers armed with their poor quality muskets. I first came to know about Ole Miss during my Marine Corps days, 1967-1971 and became so enamored with the University that in 1993 my son went there for his undergrad degree. And yes, I'm from the land of ice and snow, but that doesn't mean that I didn't come under the spell of the South.Most of my Marine friends were from below the Potomac and east of the mighty Mississippi.

I beg to differ. Both Missouri and Kentucky were voted into the Confederacy even though they did not officially secede. In the case of Missouri the sitting Governor at the time of the war was pro-Confederate and fled with the state seal.
