I think that the singer war is irrelevant. Eddie was the true master behind it all. Every Van Halen album (except VHIII) had at least one hit on it. Sammy and Dave outside VH have one maybe two or three in there career. Not saying they dont have good songs theyve only had a few real hits. I love every era of VH so this is a mega fans opinion. Sammy is obviously a much better singer but Dave was a much better showman no question.

All you people hating on Hagar, after 1984 there wouldve been no more Van Halen. Sammy was with Van Halen for 11 years and Dave was only there for 7 before he got too big for his britches and left. Face it people DLR is a washed up middle aged premadonna, Eddie is a controling drunk, Alex is a follower, and Sammy and Mike are selling amazing albums without them. Truth hurts.

VH was a band. It needed Eddie, Alex, Dave, Sammy, Mikey, and yes, even Gary. Dave & Sammy were great performers and singers, regardless whoever was your favorite. Mikey & Alex are needed as well, and of course there's Eddie, one of the greatest ever. With Gary, he helped pave the way for Dave's return with performing the old songs, making everyone happy. Unfortunately the drama is what VH will ultimately be remembered for first, which is a shame. VH should have used the HOF to bury the hatchet.

I'm a hardcore "Diamond Dave", EVH, and AVH fan but seriously.....FUCK those guys for screwing the fans out of what could have been a phenominal Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony!! I've had my differences with the Hall of Fame, but IT IS Rock 'n Roll's highest honor and a once in a lifetime thing to have your body of artistic work honored for all time. It's hard to be a Van halen fan, it really is....Website said "Happy New Year 2009"...Love the music but they keep their fans in the dark....

Sammy is better than Dave its 100% true. But unlike the assclowns on here i APPRECIATE both singers. If not for Sammy Van Halen wouldnt have been as big as they were. Every single Van Halen album with Hagar went number 1 however David sold more albums HOWEVER, VH released 6 albums with Roth and only 4 with Sammy. But I love both DLR and Sammy Hagar simply because they both talent and can sing, but to me Sammy is just more likeable so ill always like him better a little bit :)

Van Halen wrote as much "great music" with Sammy as with Dave, some of the most mature and enduring songs were written on Sammy's watch...stuff that never would have happened with DLR, and vice versa, I can't think of any band that has had the incredible fortune of having two of rock's greatest frontmen...Michael Anthony has never gotten any respect and Al (the greatest rock drummer since John Bonham) just got overshadowed...but the drummer's out there, like me, know what a badass he is...

However, in terms of what he brought to popular music and music in general, he has to be considered as one of the best/most influential guitarists of all time. It's undeniable. Sure... I'm certain there's a better guitar player out there. But one that has the entire package as Eddie did? Sorry, there hasn't been one since Eddie. In that light EVH is clearly one of the best ever.

But no matter which angle you come from, be it how many they influenced, their technical skill, or the soul and feeling they play with, there are people with far more of each than EVH. He can be your personal best/favorite but there are better, more influential guitarists. And also, not all music after 1978 was influenced by Van Halen, mostly just metal.

I've listened to Van Halen and Van Hagar for close to 30 yrs. now........and Dave is a MUCH better singer and frontman than Sammy ever was.........Dave had a very unique bluesy voice along with his banshee screams that gave a lot of character to the songs........and his onstage persona was quite colorful -- "he looked like the music sounds".

Hagar was just another corporate bozo singing elevator love ballads.........his vocal range was limited and his creative skills almost non-existant.
