To all the idiots saying the squat was high: this is a powerlifting squat, not an olympic squat, so the stance is MUCH wider, and this means that the thighs go parallel instead of much lower like they would with olympic squats.
Have you tried box squats as a method for training for depth - I love them. I'm training for a competition now. I couldn't get anywhere near depth with a regular squat last week (suit btms and belt only -straps down) but set a box up just on parallel tonight and got much lower. next week i'll set the box below parallel. In the meantime you get used to getting lower. May all your lights be white!
whether it was high or not and if you read the description you would know he knows the depth he went. On that note i'd like to see anyone of you grow a pair and slap 900 on a bar to squat for not 1 but 2 reps... high or not much respect to the man who can achieve this level of training without a beer gut the size of a semi's gas tank
What the fuck? Great depth, bar flopping around like it's made of jello and a walkout? Let me guess, that's a single ply suit as well. Shit is crazy man. What are you? A 242?
Looked pretty deep to me, I can't even imagine trying to hold up 900 lbs., much less trying to squat it. Good inspiration though, I like your vids. I subbed, so I hope the vids keep coming :D
Great squat. I think that some of these people don't know who you are, or that you have competed at the level you have. The second one looked good to me. It seems like you are always alone in your videos. I can't imagine what it would be like if you had a better training situation.
@usurper213 I completely agree. I question whether or not the weight is really that much. If this guy is really lifting that much, why isn't he power lifting and setting records?
@caesarboxing He is competing. His name is Micheal Tuchscherer and he has gone to the IPF worlds several times. He is one of the top lifters in the world right now.
You have awesome strengh. Your squats were a fraction below parallel. In many federations, ie APF - 3 white lights. USAPL - forget it, they want your backend touching the floor. Consider doing a quick utube search for,,,, squat precision,,, where detecting perfect, legal, squat depth for ANY federation has now become a science . I agree with adogruzza, that deep squats will build solid strength, but detecting exact required depth is a must for your highest, single squat in a meet.
Sorry dont want to be unpolite. I explain myselft better (in my best english):
as many i've seen many of your video, And too frequently i saw you using in training too high (more than your best in competition) weight without correct tech.
I simply think that you are a great talent, for sure better than Shepil, but you need to do everything perfect, more simple, lower intensity (a lot) and go deeper in squat.
I think you're right to a large extent. I'm working on getting better depth in training (some recent videos illustrate this). There's plenty of strength there -- I just need to be a little more consistent than I have been.
There's an old saying: practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent.
No doubt you can hit 900+ in competition, but you might hose yourself by training your body to stop early when under such heavy poundages. Instead of worrying now about hitting that PR, get it to be second nature to hit substantial depth, that way on the platform you don't have to worry about it.
i'm like you have no spotters to help me and have to do also alone on the rack, see you lifting inspires me, and now i'm going to continue training hard to do 700 to set the 275 brazilian junior record.
Good luck! Don't let people who say, "you can only succeed with training partners" discourage you. It definately can be done without them. Just train smart, train hard, and train safe. You'll be better off and once you get to the meet, it'll be just like another training day! Good luck and God bless!
I am driven to be the best powerlifter I can be. I also am in a situation that makes it impossible for me to have good spotters many times. It's out of necessity. Also, I've been doing it this way a long time. I set the pins in the rack to where I can dump it if I need to. Same with benching (which is much more dangerous).
great this is my competition for nationals next year....please tell me your gonna be 24 by next years nationals, so i have a chance at the junior title hahaha!!!!!
It's true that I am very blessed. But don't use genetics as an excuse. I've had to work very hard and very smart to get where I am today, both physically and mentally. Also, There are no other powerlifters in my family.
even though I think the single ply feds are a bit silly..... this has to be one of the most impressive videos I've seen posted in a long long time........
A couple other questions. I notice you use standard clips and not collars to hold the weight on. Are you concerned with that kind of weight, and with the bar sagging that much, that the clips might come off? I really wouldn't want 900 pounds on my back and all of a sudden lose the clip.
Also, I notice you are almost out of room on the bar. Many of the bars out there are not long enough for the kind of weight you are using. Do you train with an IPF-approved bar?
I especially liked the ass-kickin' thrash metal music they play at your gym. Or was that Sinead O'Connor?!?
Awesome job. Now I am going to go crank Nothing Compares 2U and put down 900 pounds! Will have to put "We Are the World" on my bench press mix to bust through my training plateau...
Seriously, awesome job. Go show the Russians what drug-free powerlifting is all about.
He gets kudos for training through that shit song...
