  • I don't know how MAPP would affect the tubing. Normally, the O/A torch flame is set at dead neutral or with just a slight feather with the acetelyene (carburizing flame). On 4130N tubing, it really matters how the flame reacts with the metal. I don't know with MAPP how the chemical composition of the flame would affect the 4130. If it is oxidizing, and you heated it too hot, it may cause the tubing to be brittle and compromise the structure. It would be better to have a 2nd O/A setup if needed.

  • How about another MAPP torch to heat the joints simultaneously and applying bending pressure as you heat both sides?
