It took me a fourth time in watching it, but I was finally able to take a closer look at what they're actually doing. What I thought was a series of strikes with the hand are actually attempts at disarming. This is the way single-handed weapons should work: Free hand catches/disarms/stops, weapon strikes. If these are practice sticks, what's the real weapon?
ive had the honor of learning from GM Atillo for the past three years and I can tell you with all honesty that in this video you are only seeing him at half speed to say the least. Not to mention he is not utilizing a technique called cuentada, in which you counter and disarm your opponent before they react. what you are watching is a "friendly spar" which is only utilized for training. Real combat is a lot different.
ah thats why you have angles, eventually someone slips up and footwork prevails making your opponent open to a strike that would normally be blocked, i just dont see a lot of footwork in this video :( but im sure they use it because balintawak puts lot of emphasis on it
balintawak is the name of the steert i cebu where they started it, at the back yard of an old watch repair shop.

... While the speed and movement is extremely impressive, I can't imagine those moves doing a whole lot of damage (until you take the weapon away).
