  • 0:53 Try that with a real sword genius

  • @chefkoo um he wont..... GENIUS!

  • Hana Wa Sakura Gi Hito Wa Bushi

  • epic scene... is the music han zimmer?

  • I think it's a bit deeper than that guys. (1) The little boy he takes the sword against, is the boy of the warrior he killed getting captured. When he doesn't put down the sword, it's his way of showing everyone who new the warrior killed, that he (Tom Cruise) had to be one tough person to beat, and that the warior that died fighting him was very brave to have fought him. (2) Remember the dreams he was having, killing defenseless Native Americans? This was a way to get his punishment.

  • It's not about how hard or how good you hit, it's about how hard

you can get hit and keep moving ...

  • I always wonder if he didnt put it down cuz at that time he didnt know much japanese yet lol...that sucked

  • The American spirit...the endurance that has been lost over the last couple of decades...

  • Only japanese can pull off the "screaming" and making noices while swinging whit their swords, legs, arms or even jumping! :D When someone else does it, it looks embarrassing and kinda homo! :D

    Anywho...

    Amazing movie, amazing scene!

  • Im a little older than some if ppl here liked this movie and havent seen shogun i say go look it up and watch it this movie was awesome but it seems a lot of it came from shogun.

  • @yakuza488 or maybe it should be lack of understanding what the hell the other person is saying cause he doesnt speak japanese and so he just defends himself when he is attacked for no apparent reason

  • He could have avoided this miserable ass whupping had he simply put the sword down.

  • @Dresden1065 a true man can be destroyed but never defeated

  • I just realized, how is he supposed to know what the Samuria is saying?? He doesn't speak Japanese, Maybe he didn't know he wanted him to put down the sword, Maybe he thought the Samuria wanted to fight him

  • @DangerousDan2 If I were him, I'd probably still understand what he was getting at

  • That's how Americans do it right there, y'all. NEVER give up. It doesn't matter what people think of you. You get smacked down, STAND back up. Get back on your feet and keep on truckin'! :D

  • @ZergSpawnSC2Armory exactly what i saw when i saw this scene! :)

  • ... never ever give up ...

  • Can anyone tell me how to get this hairstyle of Tom Cruise. I read online that i can get it by having a haircut that is tapered on the sides and is longer in the front to ensure that I can brush my hair back from my face to make it fuller. Please help me out guys, thanks!!

  • that guy was being a big meanie

    retroceder nunca, rendirse jamas

  • The Last Samurai is the only film, where i like the acting of Tom Cruise

  • @Nightkrowler really? I thought he also did well in Valkerie (or however you spell it)

  • @DominateroftheWorld well, i don't like him as actor at all, so i can't really say anything objectiv about o he's acting.

But must admit, this role in this film was great, he did a good work.

  • first hit the best !!! great movie RESPECT

  • this really shows heart...... you dont find that much these days

  • Damn its like he shouldve died from those blows to the face. After this scene, how was he still pretty looking???

  • I really do not understand this scene probably cause i have never seen the film the whole way through would someone be so kind as to explain it to me ?

  • @exorbium the best explanation is recommendation is to watch the movie. it is about the one character mark that all warriors admire. that is courage and bravery. he is teh prisoner of the samurai and dares not to obey what the man said. and although he is send to ground he never gives up. that is why he is admired... check the movie called "Legionnaire" but mostly the ending, or braveheart's ending, or 300 ending

  • @limemintify Dude i'm scottish i've seen braveheart almost 1000 time in like the last 8 months, i've also seen 300 a fair emount of times and the way you explained doesnt make me need to watch the film so Thanks =]

  • @exorbium dude check your comment down page when u asked explanations...

  • @limemintify Right yeah i asked for an explanation to help me better understand this scene and that is exactly what you done... and so i thanked you for it

  • 2:00 "FACE"

  • First we have a structured, disciplined culture in the Japanese. Second a open, take your fortune with your own hand with American. I wouldn't think of expressing which is the better. In Japan the inferior person would have simply bowed out. In America tenacity is rewarded. The two cultures once mixed will always produce friction. Neither is wrong, but in this case you see that determination is a powerful thing. Out matched severely Algren will never give in. A painful lessen to all watching...

  • America seems to have gotten in a lot of Wars with Asia.

  • That was very touching, how he stood up again and again without giving up. Plus, the music. The music is great!!!

  • YAME!!!.... ok, now you´re in serious problems! :P

  • I love this scene. Cruise's character is making a point, a very painful one but also a very powerful one. it's very obviously a test of heart. by the end, although he has taken a pounding, he has increased his honour by showing bravery & resolve. the samurai, by attacking an opponent unskilled with that weapon, and thus effectively defenceless, has diminished his honour.

It's a scene that succintly portrays how one should approach life.

  • Taka was thinking: damn, how could my husband got killed by this guy!?

  • @lefelinmalefique09 LOL, He doesn't say face, it's more like FASE, or fss, and it's Ujio who says that, It's the same as "Ki-Ya", as someone who has learned ninjitsu, it's a really common fighting-scream.( I should know XD)..

  • lmao i love this movie so much but i jsut noticed that at 2:00 when cruise get hit in the head he says face! lol well he doesnt but it sounds like it.

  • Taka is satanding on the porch thinking, 'Dang, I just fixed this American up. Why did Ujio have to do that? Now I have to fix him again...'

  • he got smoked!!

  • Not putting the sword down was the best thing he could of done.

  • i'm very lucky to own both the dvd and soundtrack cd. and a poster :)

  • Should have put the sword down...

  • niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Cruise should have put the boken down. He was being disrespectful.

But I admire how he kept getting back up.

  • This is my favorite scene. I like how he just keeps getting up and doesn't give up.

  • @JasonJ25 he shows how a real samurai behaves. he never gives up.

  • @JasonJ25 It's a good message. It shows to never give up. To keep your determination.

  • nice

  • best scene for me!!!

  • sounds very beautiful at 2:19 - 2:25

  • amazon

  • Amazing
