  • Keep in mind that there are other non-Corsair PSUs out there that are just as good quality. For instance, a lot of brands, including Corsair, are all made by Seasonic. Nothing wrong with them.

  • I learnt the hard way tbh bought 3 budget psu's from local rip off pc store and all died when they were turned on, the third was installed by the pc shop owner because he thought I was doing it wrong.....O.0

Only good quality 80+ psu's for me now.

  • i own Corsair...

  • Song name is Scheming Weasel from Kevin McLeod

    And Corsair PSU are Great

  • Why are they pulling the 335w off only the ATX connector? Most PSUs have a couple rails and do neat things like run the power hungry video cards on a different rail from the power hungry cpu. Sure a corsair is going to stand up better, but maybe if they put an actual computer type load on there it wouldn't destroy itself?

  • Why are they pulling the 335w off only the ATX connector? Sure a corsair is going to stand up better, but maybe if they put an actual computer type load on the fucker it wouldn't destroy itself?

  • I had a £14 psu on my old computer and without any upgrades it run for 9 and a 1/2 years without a hitch, so i dont really think its that and it to was a AMD/ATI machine

  • what is the song from?

  • Most of the older models PSUs are designed as 2-rail 12V power supplies. That means you take your maximum wattage which is 450/2 = 225 W.

Consider what else drains your power supply, if you have a 85W quad core processor and a basic 50W motherboard, they usually split up the rail usage of around 67.5W on each rail. However, if you add a 175W graphics card, it does NOT split between 2 rails. Instead it adds onto 1 rail for a total 242.5W on 1 rail, with 67.5W on the other. Guaranteed BOOM.

  • 4 people who watched this are SHAW's.

  • Where can I get a Brand X power supply? I'm prepared to give them a fair go.

  • Corsair psus, garanteed to explore, albeit not dramatically?

  • hmm... ALL SHAW PSUs xD

  • 80+ certified does NOT mean a good PSU, no, no, no. There are loads of 80+ PSU's that can't even output HALF their rated wattage. 80+ is probably the least important thing when looking for a good PSU. You need to look at things rail stabily, ripple and noise supression etc. Most decent PSU's are also rated at 40-50c, most generics are rated at 25c.

  • i want the name of the musik ^^

  • i have a corsair psu (650watt)

IT JUST SUCKS SO BAD!!! it always turns on and it never runs hot either. i mean seriously what kind of power supply never explodes.

  • Fun video. I just tested their 400CX in a similar fashion. The 12V rail OCP functioned perfectly. View the video to see what happens on the 5V rail.

  • wow, brand x are a piece of crap. You shold be able to sue their arses if a psu does this at just 75% load.

  • Nay...If you know ANYTHING about PSU you perhaps remember that there are +3.3V & +5V max load limits and so are with +12V. We usually use +12V right now. 5V are mostly for CD/DVD/HDD electronics and USB devices. 3.3 for I/O, some chipsets. 12V for CPU, GPU, mem (through multiphase buck converter). Point is - if 450W PSU has 17A limit on +12V and we just get 10W on +5V PLUS 300W on +12V - that PSU just CAN'T TAKE IT. And so is with Corsair - or ANY other brand.

  • @carrerasubway

Yes and no... Budget PSUs are piece of crap but the number shown on it, it is the maximum power they can use, but not the max power they can provide. As bad PSUs have 60% efficiency if it is written 450W on it, it shouldn't accept more than 270W.

It is still such a shame they still explode and have no security cut.

Good PSUs have a security to protect itself and the computer in case of overload, have at least a 80% efficiency, and can provide the amount of watts shown on it.

  • @Mekkiceh Actually you have it the wrong way round, if you have a 450W PSU that is 60% effecient at full load, it would consume 630W from the socket/wall, as 40% of the electricity is wasted as heat, hence the 60% efficiency.

  • @GizorX : nope, it is depending about how honest is the builder.

_ Honest manufacturers show how much the power supply can supply. Then to know how much it will get from the wall, you have to add the efficiency.

_ Other ones show how much it can use from the wall, then to know much it can provide, you have to remove the efficiency part. This partly explains why this low quality PSU is burning out at 335W (it shouldn't accept more than 270W).

  • @Mekkiceh No, you are very wrong. You should go and read up on a few review websites like jonnyguru/hardocp to name a few, and read the powersupply reviews. If you have a 400W PSU (that can actually output 400w) that is 80% effecient, at full load that PSU would cosume 480w from the wall socket. If that wasn't the case, then you're saying every PSU reviewer is wrong, as they have tested and proven these things already.

  • @GizorX : _ Few manufacturers also only define the max peak power (how much then can provide for something like half a second).

In all cases we have big numbers, but they don't define the same thing.

PS: All good PSU are certified 80+ (80 Plus): The certification avoid the manufacturers to cheat on numbers.

  • @Mekkiceh Sorry to say this but GizorX is right and you are wrong. Very wrong. You need to read up on PSUs at Anandtech/HardOCP/Etc/Etc.

  • lol they didn't put a corsair PSU to test, are corsair survives it then? ^^

  • Nah, they would have to keep it running forever :o)

  • Man these guys know everything about PSU. Spectacular haha

  • 5* ! ROFL

    Excellent video !

  • hahahaha,..

    thats a good one^_^

    corsair..

    funny music too^_^.

  • Funny vid and it shows people, not to rely on some crappy codegen or what ever psu's:P

Next psu I'm gonna get will be a Corsair, but they're quite expensive 'round here...

  • Always consider you PSU more then other components.

  • @slaterking1000

True, i´ve had a mediocre PSU and i recently bought a new Corsair 450w VX psu and my overclocking ability was way better! Even the sound the former PSU emitted was nearly gone, so dont cut expenses on the PSU front, you´ll regret it sooner or later.

  • My PSU just blew moments ago, just like in the video.

I pray that it hasn't destroyed any of my parts :(

I only just got a HD4850 today, oh the pain.

  • haha funny one =)

  • Heh... Well, you can't blame Corsair for trying to market their stuff in some fashion or another. I mean, I know of another well renowned company that spread fud and BS about other PSUs in order to get people to buy their units. (Won't say who, though some may know...)

(I know what brand the PSUs in question that blew here were after some investigation, but let's make it clear Corsair never said what it was)

  • Similar to the mac ads. I hate them, they cant think of anything good about the mac so they just have a go at their competitor!

  • I would never buy a generic PSU and Corsair PSUs are great but this video is still a total crock.

  • nice clarinet, lol. Im running two HDD, disk drives, cpu, mobo, ram, ATI 3850, case fans on a 400W Omni (generic). Just waiting for it to explode.... :O

  • That entire system on full load should be using around 200w (50% of total power)).

Add a few more things and you will see some fireworks.

  • A Good Marketing Video for Corsair Power Supplys... Its all China Hardware... If you buy Corsair or a NoName Power Supply!

  • Corssair supplies are generally made by seasonic. Not exactly a generic brand.

  • hahah nice!

    i got a sentey psu 450w with a 8800gt

and i use for games and still alive!

jjejej as soon as posible i'll change for a

    corsair 650

  • the greatest video ever.

and i am just close to buy a new one.
