Generally speaking, "atheism" really doesn't exist, as a philosophy, it's really just living your life without the superstition of religion. The only reason the term exists is for our defense against kooky people who believe what the tiny voices in their heads are saying.

Everyone is an atheist toward some of the gods. All atheism is, is a disbelief in a god or all gods. As for myself, as soon as someone who believes in a god, shows him to me and performs an act to prove that he is true, then I will believe. So far I have asked Christians to use their god to curse a tree in my front yard, but it's still doing well. Jesus cursed a tree to prove his validly and power, but they couldn't. There are several other tests in the Bible, we'll take one at a time.

As a nation advances both in simple years of existance and technologically, secularism grows. That is why the UK, France, and Germany are all secular (long established nations where science is highly regarded), and the nations of the sand people are the worst (constant conflict, government overthrow, and a mistrust of science). The USA is halfway. It embraces science, but the nation itself is still growing up, It is not yet mature.

Many kids in America are grown up with Christian families and told to believe in a certain way, however, with the internet the views of others are open to this children and then they can choose which way to go. Atheism is growing, we are entering the age of science and reason. The age of superstitious beliefs caused too much suffering and held us back for too long; I can't think of any reason why a sane person would miss that.
