This song speaks the truth and more! Makes you stop and think. How many folks can actually hear this one and relate to every single word? Jim Cuddy is a true Canadian legend, right there with Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, and many others!
Lovely, lovely song! Jim has such a beautiful voice. And there is nothing cheesy about this song!! Not every song has to be written so that we sit there and scratch our heads wondering what the song is getting at. He writes about something that many people can relate to and there is nothing wrong with that! Time to get over yourself!

I find this song to be highly offensive. Cliche after boring cliche. Is he purpously writting this souless garbage to ensure that he keeps getting government handouts from the Conservative government?
@elricochico a son needs a father in his life.. a parent reflective of how lucky they are that their children survived to see adulthood, in awe of what they can become... a yearning for our families to be safe... an eternal hope for love between star-crossed souls. escapism for a day into a world we should all strive to attain.. appreciation for a mother that worries about her children, and finally, the perseverance to overcome obstacles constantly put up.. You're right. Terribly offensive.
@tylerv4444 it's not the content I find offensive rather the delivery of the message. too literal, too cheesy both lyrically and musically. Anyhow, I'm convinced that after the age of 30 musicians (with few rare exceptions) lose the ability to create truely great music. Maybe becoming financially and emotionally secure kills creativity.
@elricochico I disagree. I think that for many, including Mr. Cuddy here, some level of success only helps create an opportunity to refine his music craft, and for him to fearlessly wear his lyrical heart on his sleeve. Even though there are initial themes that everyone can relate to, there's a very clever and poignant subtext that lies underneath it.
It takes some stones, and some credibility to lay that down.
I think your point would be more valid if that subtext wasn't there.
This video is great, just as great as when i first heard it live at his C.D release party in Ottawa at the Velvet Room. Jim You Rock.. Thanks Mom for taking me
i know no one pays attention, but I wrote some songs. You can hear them on my channel, or type in "Matt Radford - Alone Once More" or "Matt Radford - Running to Nowhere". Please help me get my songs out to the masses. Listen to them, comment on them, and share them......gimme a thumbs up to get this to the top of the comnments and keep my music alive. I've posted covers, but this is the first time posting originals....Thanks
At first, I thought this song was missing something but like all of Jim's music, after listening to this song 100+ times, I cant picture it done any other way, great song! It's funny because I didnt watch the wedding, but I feel the same way whenever I see Jim or Blue Rodeo live, and then get back to reality on those monday mornings.. cant wait till he comes to montreal again!
where's the new Greg Keelor album? Jim's good, but Greg's music just speaks to me more.... no offense to all the Cuddyans out there, but where's new music for us Keelorites?
A song about Kate and William's wedding...and the state of the world today.
