using just one layer... not sure if that's insane or ambitious haha. either way, no room to complain - i have loved this piece for years and still love it. really, really incredible work.
Was the artist using a photo as reference or was that just from the top of their head? Either way, i am completely amazed. I hope to one day be so talented.
I was wondering if programs such as Photoshop is needed? It's really something I'm not able to afford but was also wondering if there is anything else i can use thats just as good but cheaper or priceless?
All of the people who keep saying "talented" are wrong. It's called hard work and dedication. This is INCREDIBLE, and you can be this good as well if you spent the time and energy this artist did. Don't belittle him and put it all on "natural talent," this is far beyond something so ridiculous.
I am very glad I found this. I saw your tutorial on DA first, then i was just randomly searching here. This answers SO many questions that I had with the written tut. Thanks for posting dear!
200,000 people realized yet again people put tutorial in the description by accident and did not continue on to part II. In spite of this, the greatest youtube peeve I have in fact, I will venture on.
it will always depend on how high of a resolution you draw in , and then how much ram you have, the more the better, and if you have a graphics card, i have a 4 core processor running at 3.5 each core and 8 gigs of ram but since i do not have a graphics card once i get to high res , things such as the liquify tool instead of being instant they require some load time :/
i understand that airbrushes and soft edged brushes give plastic look to skin , but its Way harder to blend shading when the brush hardness is 100 % for me , and i noticed that your brush isn't hard edged either very often :P .. so i am abit confused about your tutorial that says to use 95% - 100% hard edged brush and would appreciate if you clear that up .. thanks .
@Seiferzed I'm no expert, but if you customize your brush presets, you can mess with pen pressure etc. Which may be what is confusing you in this video.
@Seiferzed What I mean is that the brushes may lay down in gradually increasing hardness's depending on her presets, so that its not just one distinct visible hard contrast between the two. Depending on ones settings you can create a smooth gradient even with a hard edged brush.
@VengefulMilk yeah i got that .. maybe i understood her in a wrong way when her tutorials said 95% 100% brush hardness , i could set the pressure to 100 bu still get less than that when needed with pen pressure , but i don't like to press hard on my tablet so in any case i could use a hard edge then go again with a gradient one like you said , thanks for the tips though ; )
@Seiferzed I read and reread what she said on blending. And what she did was constantly use the eye dropper tool to resample her colors when blending. Such as laying red next to white. and where they overlapped, sample the mix. Then paint in between the colors that way. So after resampling with the eyedropper and laying down the new color she'd have a smooth gradient from Red-pink-white. I hope this helped a little bit more.
@chimpyboy55 Look. Instead of sitting there and being so obviously jealous of their work, why don't you go and practice drawing so you too can get to this level. And believe or not, it does help to watch someone else paint. No one gets this good overnight and they're just sharing a piece of work they're proud of. Is that so wrong?
@Destnai obviously look at the misleading title of the video.. it should say fast digital painting and nothing more. not envious about his skill i give the artist mad props but to mislead and to deceive thats and ahole and a douche bag thing to do.
@chimpyboy55 Hate to break it to ya, but this is how most tutorials go on youtube, sorry. I don't really see how its a misleading title either.... But, hey you have your own opinion and thats great, but lay off calling the artist a douchebag.
Wow....First this is a woman. Diane Ozdamar, if you bothered to read the username and do a little research. Secondly, you do know she has about seven or eight MORE tutorials of this one right after this? And yes, this is a tutorial because she has a written one in her description. And if you were an artist yourself, you would know that this is actually a very helpful tutorial. Congrats on making yourself look like a Class A douchebag.
@Xcyper33 Actually there is a link to the written tutorial in the video's description... maybe you should try reading the description before posting stupid comments. Now that would be original!
if you knew anything you'd realize the best way to learn is to watch and develop on your own. Art is not something you can just say "this is how you do it and thats that" Develop your own skills thats what it is.
and instead of being a douche try checking the description. theres a link to the tut. I like the vid better personaly
@Xcyper33 There's an actual tutorial if you read the description. This video is better though, because it shows it ALL. Its easy to pause and rewind to see the exact steps. You should really just lay off.

@Zoza15 first of all, there is an easily understandable tutorial on devian@rt that follows this perfectly [follow the link in author's comment box] and is done in TWO languages to be even more helpful. and second, this is a sped up recording. uploading real time recording on youtube would take too much time and editing.

@TheDickyShow eso imaginaba, porque yo he dibujado un ojo y me ha costado al final me ha salido bien, Entonces ya se lo que se tarda en hacer ese tipo de dibujo.
She uses hard brushes of different sorts (but really all the same in the end) and plays around with their Opacity Jitter, and Opacity Size a lot to block in the basic shapes and tones. She then comes back in and uses a Large Round Hard Edged brush (at 95% to 100% hard) with the Opacity Jitter set to Pen Pressure 0% to blend and add colors as she moves along through her piece.
Hi. THis is great, I was just wondering about the liquify tool. I have your written tutorial and don't see it in there. Is this a necessary tool or is it more for adjustments?
Please checkout the description, there is a link to the full WRITTEN tutorial in there.
I'm a bit tired of people coming here shouting "this is not a tutorial" as this tut took me over 40 hours to create (and for free). Painting was the quickest part to do -_-
@TheDailyMonk yes of course you can learn to paint and draw its a skill that is developed like any other any art class you take is worth while the most important things are antomy, form value and lighting from there u can draw and paint any thing
Did you do this all on layer? I prefer doing things on one layer, but this is amazing. And the fact that you did the highlights first before the outline. Impressive, this beautiful work. Thank you.
Hello. I'm starting a project on my channel, and I need some artists with free time to assist me in this effort. If you could stop by my channel when you get a chance, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
If you had carefully checked out the description, you would have found out the link to the full WRITTEN tutorial in there.
Which is much more helpful than the video part (I just put the videos here so people could see how I used to work. Videos are not meant to be a tutorial).
What if you had checked the description so you could have found the link to the full WRITTEN tutorial in there ?
I'm quite tired of people saying this is not a tutorial as I only spent 10 hours on the painting but I spent over 40 hours on the WRITTEN TUTORIAL WITH .abr BRUSH FILES, ETC.
Because using layers is too mainstream. xD

TheFishyOneSKiT 1 year ago
No offence, but this tutorial is pretty useless without documentary..
You have to talk during the progress or other wise the people wont understand the whole tutorial progress..
And further more, this makes people want to draw very quickly.. And thats the biggest mistake in this tutorial..
Always give a proper documentary before you start..
Thats my biggest critique for you..
And nice work :)

what tool is he using at 2:22 ?
andybarone1984 1 year ago
(She) That is the Liquify Tool, found under the Filter menu. Depending on which version of Photoshop you have. This painting was done in CS3.

supongo que hacer ese tipo de trabajo toma mucho tiempo, que sera?, un par de horas?

Aproximadamente doce horas, Maritaliendo.

@TheDickyShow eso imaginaba, porque yo he dibujado un ojo y me ha costado al final me ha salido bien, Entonces ya se lo que se tarda en hacer ese tipo de dibujo.
Maritaliendo 1 year ago
mind telling what brushes you used? i find the standard brush to lack texture and the like
phearthehamster 1 year ago
I'm positive the artist uses standard brushes.
TheDickyShow 1 year ago 2
as in the stock photoshop hard/soft brush? hmm what about the brush settings aside from pen pressure?
phearthehamster 1 year ago
She uses hard brushes of different sorts (but really all the same in the end) and plays around with their Opacity Jitter, and Opacity Size a lot to block in the basic shapes and tones. She then comes back in and uses a Large Round Hard Edged brush (at 95% to 100% hard) with the Opacity Jitter set to Pen Pressure 0% to blend and add colors as she moves along through her piece.

Do you have more tutorials for complete beginners without a tablet? :) Would be really awesome if you did.
The Geisha looks stunning btw, keep this up :)

Hi. THis is great, I was just wondering about the liquify tool. I have your written tutorial and don't see it in there. Is this a necessary tool or is it more for adjustments?
mitchfu 2 years ago
This is not a tutorial, this is a speed run!
leoceara31 2 years ago
Please checkout the description, there is a link to the full WRITTEN tutorial in there.
I'm a bit tired of people coming here shouting "this is not a tutorial" as this tut took me over 40 hours to create (and for free). Painting was the quickest part to do -_-
Thank you.
DianeOzdamar 2 years ago
@leoceara31 apparently u can't read..
MyArtIsLoved731 1 year ago
can people learn to draw and paint like that or is it just a natural talent?
I'd really like to know, is it worth taking art classes?
TheDailyMonk 2 years ago
Yes they can! You can search the book "Drawing on the right side of the brain" by Betty Edwards for reference, everyone can draw realistic.
mozgovvert 2 years ago
@TheDailyMonk yes of course you can learn to paint and draw its a skill that is developed like any other any art class you take is worth while the most important things are antomy, form value and lighting from there u can draw and paint any thing

Video tut doesn't seem to work?? I click your link on DA as well and it leads me right back here. No videos? Gone?? Would luv to see them!

Did you do this all on layer? I prefer doing things on one layer, but this is amazing. And the fact that you did the highlights first before the outline. Impressive, this beautiful work. Thank you.

this is so impressive <3

Hello. I'm starting a project on my channel, and I need some artists with free time to assist me in this effort. If you could stop by my channel when you get a chance, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I hate you ppl -.-"
U know how to make masterpieces, but u have no idea how to make a TUTORIAL =_=!
competer4 2 years ago
it's no use to tell you how to draw, you have to learn that part yourself. Practice practice practice.
Try to learn from what you see -flow of lines, proportions, color use, etc.
BrainDDR 2 years ago
I dont think I can learn by watching a video
It's really hard, I dont even think I'll be able to make those even if I attend attend a class D;<
competer4 2 years ago
if you walk trough your life with this attitude than of course you won't be able to do nothing.
Have some guts and do what you like to do.
A few years ago I didn't thought I would draw like I draw now and I still think it isn't good.
So just do it and stop being a pussy ;)
BrainDDR 2 years ago
lol
Yeah..I'll try >_>

competer4 2 years ago
another tip - never say "try" Do it or leave it
scrap that word out of your dictionary
:D haha ok enough of that
BrainDDR 2 years ago
wtf D:
competer4 2 years ago
If you had carefully checked out the description, you would have found out the link to the full WRITTEN tutorial in there.
Which is much more helpful than the video part (I just put the videos here so people could see how I used to work. Videos are not meant to be a tutorial).
Thanks.
DianeOzdamar 2 years ago
@competer4 smart one, did u see the tutorial she written on her talking place? I rest my case.

Good content but far too fas to be useful. Some commentary would have helped a lot. What a pity.
amberidge 2 years ago
...a pity? You didn't notice the commentary? There's even a full written tutorial covering everything done here....
Amazing gratitude shown for the huge job she made to share the process of creating a masterpiece like this.
Would you rather have a 12 hour realtime series consisting of a hundred short youtube movies?
Imho it's an extremely well done and inspiring series of visual lessons for a digital artist completed by an awesome tutorial. Much appreciated!

Thank you.

Whoops! Tanks for the clarification. Hmmm....
