The majority of the Bible talks about god commanding genocide and other such atrocities. One passage prescribes the slicing open of pregnant womens' bellies. cacmattman- what? I'm no liberal but independant and think the Repub's have the most issues as today. With lack of leadership, in-fighting, and a stick to conservative principles attitude only when facing defeat at the hands of Democrats. Then their morally right? Repub's and Democrats seem to put party above the country and it should be the other way around, but instead of finding fault in their ideology they create a divide base on principles beliefs they themselves don't follow in life.

Christians have been responsible for some of the worst atrocities in history, not to mention there is an inverse correlation between religiosity and societal health. If there is one thing that is very clearly demonstrated throughout statistics, history, everything really, it's that religion and in this particular case Christianity, does nothing to make you a better person.

I think it is safe to say that religious fanatcisim is always dangerous, whereas more moderate christians are not. You can trace most evils to fanatics. Actually, most of the great evils have been done by religious people fanatical about "doing the right thing." It is NOT a logical fallacy to say that Christianity doesn't, as a trend, improve people's behavior because that is a statistical fact. Likewise, it is not a fallacy to say that over the course of human history, Christianity, and more broadly religion, has been the inspiration for the most chilling acts of evil. Most good things done by religious people are done despite their religion.

The majority of the Bible talks about god commanding genocide and other such atrocities. One passage prescribes the slicing open of pregnant womens' bellies. There are the horrible commandments such as stoning disobedient children, beating slaves, etc. You have to really dig to find the good bits in the Bible. If a Christian was truly following their religion they would be horrible, dangerous people. Hence, good is done despite the religion, not because of it.
