This talk about how many fingers to use reminds me of a discussion I had with a guy at work who was taking classical guitar lessons (I've been playing guitar for 47 years, totally self-taught). He watched me use my thumb to finger the low E string on a guitar and told me his instructor said to never do that; it's not proper technique. I told him "If I needed to use my d*** to finger the string, and I could, I would".
@korporaalkaaskoning Geddy Lee from Rush has some rather fast and complex lines and he only uses one finger. James Jamerson also uses one finger and he's a solid player.
If something works for someone, then why not let them do it there way?
@korporaalkaaskoning Dude, how did you come to the conclusion that I can't play with two fingers? If I film myself walking, will you tell me that I need to learn how to run because I can go faster that way? Food for thought ;)
@gl797 It's not so bad. First you can hear the bass well in this tune, which is often the major difficulty in other songs, and there are only 4 patterns I think. Slowed them down and looped them until I figured them out.
i agree, totally cool bass line. this sounded really good, and i didn't notice the little mistakes, you played it pretty well. nice job! i really like costello's first 3 albums with all his new wave hits, "this year's model" is probably my fave of the three.
Random Question, Can you play a six string bass? I can't for the life of me wrap my hand all around the neck on mine and i'm afraid my 15 year-old hands have stopped growing :( haha. It kinda sucks when i saved all my money for a new guitar and i can't even hold it properly. Man i feel like a dumbass.. lol
@SlackBabbathTs Thanks, yeah pretty different from what I usually play or listen to. But a good tune is a good tune.
I bet you could have recorded the guitars, hehehe. I still enjoy those "just bass" vids, because they're so quick. Figured the tune out last night and this morning I was recording and I post it a few hours later.

@Grvthang What I don't get is the way I play seems to bother some people. I couldn't care less how others play.

Thanks dude! Totally figured it out with this video. LOVE this song. Also I don't care how many fingers you play with, you kick ass.

@gkoz791 The little mistakes are there...
I've never actually listened to Costello albums, just random tunes that I heard here and there.
Thanks for the comment. Always appreciated.

@Evansmustard Never even played a 5 string. I'll never master a 4 string in my life time, so why bother with extra strings to confuse me even more!
