@umigainsborough1 This spell pattern, like almost all of her other spellcards, is actually a trick puzzle rather than an actual dodging challenge.
Generally, players attempt to move proactively through the individual waves of patterns like this, so that their focus can stay on a single vector (through the gaps) rather than on multiple converging bullet trajectories. This run is an example of that. (continued in next post)
@umigainsborough1 This particular pattern, though, is slow enough for the bullets to be easily read. With this slow speed, a player simply move horizontally to align with the gaps in the waves. In fact, the highly diagonal movement and the gridlike spacing of the final waves negates any advantage from proactive vertical movement and is actually more dangerous than just moving left and right.

@msh11201996 I love Gigameka's take on Suwako's history, there might a thing or two elements that were made up, but his interpretations aren't contradictory at all to the canon. And the Mishaguji's reactions are hilarious! "Th-those eyes!! We remember!"

You are not wrong, but you're not entirely correct either. Although it is true Kanako bested Suwako, one of the reasons Kanako kept Suwako around was because she couldn't keep Mishaguji in line while Suwako could.
It has been argued is not so much that Kanako is stronger than Suwako, but that Kanako's power are a natural counterattack to Suwako's
But as far as what ZUN has explicitly stated, you're right.
Beat Suwako about a week ago, yay for me. Though I still don't get how you could possibly call her the easiest extra boss. (I've seen you say so on your fight against Nue.)
She still gave me a ton of trouble, especially the 4th and 6th spellcards. I do abysmal on those, even when I know there's a pattern to the 4th and that you have to be aggressive on the 6th.
Still a super fun fight though, and I finished with a spare life. Great run as usual.

Hey, as someone who only watches these runs (especially yours, Raak), I have to say that Suwako might be my favorite boss. She has the most beautiful, evocative, and appropriate danmaku. You actually feel like you're fighting a goddess of water and earth... albeit a cute lil' playful one.
I mean.. no those perfect runs, w/o using a fucking bomb.. those make me feel like an idiot, watching this i can remember.. this game can be beaten by humans, and not only by fucking japanese machines.

Even though 1st spellcard is easy, there's a way to make it easier.
Just before she starts shooting on her first nonspell, quickly go to the top of the screen. Then on the 1st spellcard, she'll shoot those red and light blue lines upwards instead of downwards (well, it works for me, though)
You're right... weird, I always copy/paste spells' names from the wiki. I guess Moreya is either a typo on their part, an alternate spelling or a Moriya's conspiracy. =/

I can say with complete honesty, the more I watch you (and others) play these on hardest difficulty, I realize that with my current skill, even if I could hook the controls directly to my brain, I wouldnt last past the first few waves of non-spell at the fight start
i did alrite on first try on easy.. made it to sanae before continue. i started a new game.. but this time i had to use 20 continues to beat the game on easy haha. i swear.. the hitboxes are screwy. i get killed when the bullet is like 10miles away or a bullet does a boomerang effect off screen and kill me from behind.
Ugh, the extra bosses irritate me, particularily Mokou. I spend days working out patterns for Reisen and Kaguya, and then I have two whole more bosses to create strategies for. Although that made me appreciate how fun Reisen's entire stage was, it was probably my favorite in the series. That said, good job, but for "Spring Sign 'Jade of the Horrid River'", wouldn't it be easier to go up through the bullet rows before they close in on you instead of waiting for the end?

Even though 1st spellcard is easy, there's a way to make it easier.
Just before she starts shooting on her first nonspell, quickly go to the top of the screen. Then on the 1st spellcard, she'll shoot those red and light blue lines upwards instead of downwards (well, it works for me, though)

I'm almost positive it's Moriya. The wiki says it is Moriya, Google says it is Moriya and Suwako name written in hiragana uses the "ri" character.

You're right... weird, I always copy/paste spells' names from the wiki. I guess Moreya is either a typo on their part, an alternate spelling or a Moriya's conspiracy. =/

i find it interesting that in the last spell card the bullets ae not crossing but actually bouncing off of each other.

I guess they can be seen as bouncing, although upon closer inspection they are crossing (both visually and in programming.

I figured out that spell a long time ago. Never tried that method, but knowing ZUN he probably engineered a horrible disaster if you try that.

@raak1010 This is how that spell works: for each of the bullets, a certain amount of time after the bullet stops, it detects the player's position at that instant and moves towards that position in a straight line, continuing in that direction after it passes that point. So, if you tried moving out of the tube when it started to collapse, you'd get trapped at the top of the screen.

I can say with complete honesty, the more I watch you (and others) play these on hardest difficulty, I realize that with my current skill, even if I could hook the controls directly to my brain, I wouldnt last past the first few waves of non-spell at the fight start

i did alrite on first try on easy.. made it to sanae before continue. i started a new game.. but this time i had to use 20 continues to beat the game on easy haha. i swear.. the hitboxes are screwy. i get killed when the bullet is like 10miles away or a bullet does a boomerang effect off screen and kill me from behind.

Ugh, the extra bosses irritate me, particularily Mokou. I spend days working out patterns for Reisen and Kaguya, and then I have two whole more bosses to create strategies for. Although that made me appreciate how fun Reisen's entire stage was, it was probably my favorite in the series. That said, good job, but for "Spring Sign 'Jade of the Horrid River'", wouldn't it be easier to go up through the bullet rows before they close in on you instead of waiting for the end?

But you were able yo play up to Stage 6, right?
To unlock the Extra stage, you must beat the game on Normal or higher without continuing. That or download a a score file with Extra already unlocked
