  • Guy's, Absoultely amazing! I simply can't resist asking a couple newbi type of questions. 1) What is the weight to a Loco such as these? 2) Since I am guessing these are quite heavy and not easily transported, are they kept in a yard or stored somewhere safe? Great video, enjoyed it very much.

  • gorgeous train haha hopefully one day i will have enough money to buy one. doubt it tho

  • im building a replica of the Norfolk Western 1218 which is a challenger type engine. i live in south florida and i belong to the south florida live steamers. i as wondering. what is the radius of the curves at your track?

  • Beautiful! The patina is just perfect too - that of a hard working engine. Awesome model!

  • AMAZING!!! Where do you find a live steam loco like that and the rails. i've always wanted to build a lyout in my back yard

  • you need a life grandpa!

  • @xTheTrollerx Oooohh someones jealous hey......

  • awesome, I've so wanted to do this for years (since a kid) but have to wait till I've the time

  • The amount of detail and precession that goes into these things still amaze me. It's really like someone took a shrink-ray to a real one!

  • awesome train good video

  • The Challenger rules! I have spent many miles chasing the last real one left operational UP #3985, but the model still amazes me!

  • @SkipW

  • ¡que cosa tan hermosa!

  • great great great!!! best wishes from germany

  • Well my friend now that my chin is at my feet and there is drool all over the place ,might I add that is bad ass ,That is one awlsome

  • Thank you - very nice model trains filming the XXL bigben steam engine - is great, greetings from Bavaria in Germany JoergyTheRose

  • i bet thats a pain in the backside to get on the track

  • WANT WANT WANT!!!!

  • MOTHER OF GOD!!

  • Had I not seen this with my own 2 eyes I would have never believed this! WOW! Incredible craftsmanship and stunning attention to detail! How the heck did you manage to build such a wonderful scale train??? My gawd!

  • this is awesomee....

  • do you ever worry about a boiler explodeing??

  • trop cool!!!!

  • Excellent!!!

  • That thing probably costs more money than most people make in a year.

  • where is this Ca, or Fl?

  • would this still be considered model trains or narrow gauge trains?

  • how much do lose things cost

  • Absolutely Beautiful. I do independent videography projects. I'm wondering if I could be invited to attend one of these run days and where your at. If you would "in box" me with the information, I'd love to put together a professional video for your group and host it on Youtube. Thanks

  • Wow amazing detail

  • If ever there was an application for radio control.

  • Beautiful work

  • It is a really cool little locomotive, really something.

  • that's amazing! eveyone spends money differently on a hobby. Personaly,,I would have used that money for a ride in the cab of the real UP Challenger,,,,and held the memory.

  • @bfs1888 Thats a good point however, one driving experience Vs. Infinite driving on a small scale one? ;) hehe. Great video!

  • If I had 10 mill+ I would easy buy it if possible.

  • OCME RULES!

  • @servicefamily Thanks :)

  • so what does it take to build one of these besides money lol

  • Incredible video, thanks so much for uploading and sharing this with us. That must be one huge club, would love to see it some time. How long did it take to build this loco? Thanks.

  • Wow! What a beautiful engine.

Love your wonderful videoing from the other track, but get MUCH closer so we can see in detail and hear the engine.

    Where?

  • How do you make these?

  • I would guess, if the market was big enough (which it isn't)

chinese factory could mass produce something like that for around $10,000.

price of a very small car sold in 3rd world market.

  • what speed have you got this locomotive up to?

real speed and or relative size speed

  • Wow thats a beautiful engine, I like the double header that passed by never seen that before.

  • Where is this? BTW I operate at the SWLS club and have done so for 4yrs. :P

  • Very nice locomotive! My, has that place ever changed. I was there for the ground breaking ceremony years ago.

  • that is one of the most beautiful large scale locomotives i have ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!!

i would have never sold that.

  • that is one of the most beautiful large scale locomotives i have ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why didn't she blow her whistle in any of the video?

  • That is one Huge model train layout !!

  • @alexsekora i'm referring to our allen american at my club. ive never seen this loco operate in person

  • @alexsekora WOW!!!!!

  • @alexsekora, well actually the real challengers are burning oil. (They used to be coal)

  • Dear Santa...

  • What does her whistle sound like?

  • Challengers are very beautiful machines, but my favorite articulated loco will always be the 4884 Big Boy, a cousin of the Challenger.

  • @cauffey Why aren't Challengers your favorites too? They look just like Big Boys only smaller and have less wheels. But they're just as strong and powerful.

  • Thanks for the vid and the train.

  • What do you burn it it?

  • @bigred42091 This engine Burns oil just like the real one "Diesel #2"

  • @aacuna09, ok thanks

  • @aacuna09 The 844 "can" burn Diesel #2.....but, the 3985 doesn't tolerate it very well....they usually are running a #5 oil...or at least Lynn told me that, once...before he passed away....a Very sad loss

to the UP steam program for sure. A great guy.....loved by many.

  • Love live steam - this loco is awesome - Thanks for posting

  • Bruno Platzer? he is the one who gives you a reply e-mail on alco-west-locomotives.. i am planning on ordering a live steam engine from him.

  • Not to crash the ball here but up 3977 was a greyhound challenger.

  • Absolutely beautiful!!!

  • where do u run this awesome work of art

  • Are you able to run the valve gear in cut off with this engine?

  • where is this?

  • If you step off the locomotive, you can make a documentary about the real one using this! Great engine indeed!

  • You can by the casting from Roger Goldman plus the drawings. Just google live steam models.

  • @Train2590 Nope. Look up the 3977 on Google Images, and then the 3985. The coloring is different.

  • That looks like the 3985, not the 3977.

  • O my gawd!!! This thing is amazing!!!

  • im curious as to why hes hauling only two box cars when that locomotive could easily haul 50+, is it just a matter of the club saying how much space you have? or a matter of not being able to obtain that many cars?

  • he could have gone four wheels further and have a bigboy

  • Wow, that is some amazing craftsmanship!!

  • What size and class are these called?

  • @F650Rcr the size is 1 1/2 inch scale so ever inch reprsents 0ne foot and the the track gauge is 7 1/2 inches the Class of the engine is the Challenger class 4-6-6-4

  • So was it built from a kit or from scrap? That has amazing detail on it!

  • @fastj14 all built from Scrap there is no kit for something like this

  • @aacuna09 actualy there is a com. called Live Steam Locomotives they make castings for this hobby as well as drawings and information. The train is built like a kit car, not a kit that you buy all the parts in but in parts as you go along.

  • @aacuna09 The Challenger castings were from Roger Goldmann who offers them to this day, but Bruno had to add a lot of engineering, machining and make numerous scratch made parts to make it into this fabulous locomotive.

  • How much does that Challenger cost?

  • @Dinosorable Priceless my man pricesless its one of a kind engine there is nothing like it ever made so probaly have to be over $125,000 Plus

  • @aacuna09 Wow! That's a lot of money!

  • @aacuna09 How did they make it out of scrap?

  • Could you make a video, that shows it really working.

  • @ramonnie007 I wish i could but this engine came for a visit and the owner Know no longer has it he sold it to a guy in Texas and bought a 3 3/4 scale K36!

  • @aacuna09,

Great loco, I would never sell it!

  • hey do he know that the real one is in Cody Park in North Platte,NE?

  • @microbusss yes he does cause he modeled this engine right off the real one there3 is no prints this is the first engine of its kind and everything is made down to scale!

  • @aacuna09 he oughta take it down to North Platte & take pics of it next to the real one lol

  • how fast can thay go??

  • @spfilms4449 most of the time they like to run at least 5 to 6 mph anyfaster its get scary lol

  • @aacuna09 haha i couldnt tell u how fast ive been on a train with some individuals

  • @CGiordano464 yeah i know that one ur Crazy behind the throttle of that American I have seen u LOL

  • @aacuna09 yep. trust me tho anyone who runs that thing flys! even gene allen runs his american fast. its those rods i mean their really aint a slow throttle position for that type of engine.

  • can anyone drive this big boy engine =) i always wanted to drive something like this so fun .

  • @SaberTanker22 this is not a big boy its a Challenger but there is a Big Boy in the Scale it is at the Riverside Live Steamers in Riverside CA

  • @aacuna09 sorry if i made you made just to me they look about the same so i just so formal with the word big boy over challenger still nice steam locomotives in my books sir.

  • If he needs to give it away, I will take it!

  • @PRR5406 its in Texas from what i was told LOL

  • wats it take get bruno to give me some throttle time? a grande or 2? haha

  • @CGiordano464 probably or what if u just ask him lol but we cant cause he no longer owns it!

  • @aacuna09 ya i know! well thers always the k-36 lol

  • how many cars can that thing pull??

  • @mbtech2003 alot of cars lol i would say at least 50 maybe more!

  • @aacuna09 Cased or machined!? Dag-um, this is a great looking locomotive. Was this machined by the owner or an organization? BTW, nice video 5*****

  • @DensamG its bothCased and Machined and yes it was done by the owner. Thanks

  • awesome, i have 3977 in ho scale from mth, was it a passenger locomotive or freight because mine is passenger and ur live steam is freight

  • @trainlover479 I do believe it was a Freight from what I have looked up.

  • @aacuna09 im thinking it was both, cuz u found that up and mine is passenger

  • I wonder how much of this was handmade. Really nice locomotive, really, really nice.

  • @DensamG all of this was hand

    made either cased and machined

  • how fast can they go?

  • At our club we like to Run at a safe speed of 5 to 6 mph nothing faster then that but these trains can go really fast. But for safety we have all engines set to run only 5 to 6 mph.

    Alex-

  • great video

  • Thanks

  • where did you buy it

  • Beautiful engine!

  • 5***** !

  • Thanks

    Alex

  • what camera are u using to film this? i like the picture!!!

  • Idk i found the video file in a the Vault or Shed that has all the really nice trains stuff did not say that LOL idk i will ask i know former club President Terry Cumings did it he has the Double Unit UP 9391

  • too bad there was never a load behind it...
