  • that court of crimson king cover is just so powerful, nice vid

  • You have argentinian rock Lps?

    My greetings from Argentina.

  • @AfterFelicidad97 Greetings. I don't think I have any Argentinian vinyl but here are some of the Argentinian artists I have digitally: Kevin Johansen + the Nada, Gustavo Cerati, Bubu, Las Orejas y la Lengua ti name just a few. I love recommendations if you think there is something I should hear.

  • @dereckvon

I recommend you some great 70's argentinian bands and solo like: Almendra, Manal, Pescado Rabioso, Invisible, Color Humano, Aquelarre, Polifemo, David Lebón, Luis Alberto Spinetta, Vox Dei, Moris, Etc.

Sure you will enjoy all these bands.

  • @AfterFelicidad97 Thank you very much!

  • The best use of a King Crimson song can be found here:

    youtube.com/watch?v=6rGeCGS1yg8

What better soundtrack to hardcore skateboarding than 21st Century Schizoid Man?!?!

  • Robert Fripp is in my top five guitar players, great retrospective of King Crimson. You motivated me to pull out an old box set "The Great Deceiver", live performances 1973-1974 and put it on the ipod. I will be driving around with K.C. cranked for a couple of weeks now. Thanks!!

  • @EarlofSuave308 That'll work. Great Deceiver box set. Sweet.

  • Great video as always Derek!! Do you use plastic sleeves to protect your great vinyl?

  • @TheViol8tor I sure do but I take them out to display the covers without glare.

  • Definitely a KC fan over here. Have you heard THRAK or B'BOOM: Live from Argentina? B'BOOM was an "offical bootleg" recorded during their tour for THRAK in the mid-90s. The song selection is astounding and, sonically, it's a phenomenal recording. Sadly, it has not seen the light of day on vinyl (to my knowledge) yet. Thanks for another good video, Dereck. I enjoyed it. You inspired me to go put on some King Crimson.

  • @EoLoVoX Tes, I have Thrak on cd but not B'boom. I think I have a burned copy of it though. Great great band.

  • Derek, the album after Discipline and before Three of a Perfect Pair was actually called "Beat". It did have the song "Heartbeat" on it though. I am sure you knew that and probably just pronounced it wrong. Just thought I would tell you.

    Rob/Boston

  • @Paneeks1960 Thank you for the clarification. You're absolutely right.

  • I did not think I could like you anymore than I did before but after hearing you speak about my second favorite band ever, I have a higher respect for your musical knowledge now. The last time I saw them play live was at the Beacon in NYC, 1997. Great show of course. I also read in your comments that you met them all except for Fripp. Maybe that was a good thing? Fripp is hard to talk to anyways Derek. What is your favorite studio from Discipline on? I would love to know. Thanks Derek!

  • @Paneeks1960 To be honest my answer would probably change if I sat down and listened anew. But Thrak and Happy With What You Have to be Happy With come to mind right away.

  • To me In the court of the crimson king is the ultimate rock album and here in Europe is regarded as one of the most important records ever.

    Anyway:

    1) You got the red and the yellow, you're missing the blue: Beat. Similar to Three of a perfect pair, especially the cover.

    2) Check out "Giles Giles and Fripp" and the Fripp-Eno albums.

    3) Another live album that you may be interested in is Earthbound from 1972 (Island american tour). Nobody likes it but I do.

    Cheers

  • @TheMM360 Thanks for commenting and it makes sense that Europe would get it right. I do have all of those other titles but all on cd. I'll show my Fripp solo/collaborations in another video. You can bet I own the Fripp & Eno albums. Thanks again for commenting.

  • @dereckvon I can't wait to see your Fripp collection. But you should also teach these kids from the vinyl community about Yes, Van der Graaf and Gentle Giant. Or maybe just make a "prog-rock must have" video. Most people today have no idea about what those guys from the progressive scene were up to in the early 70s.

  • @TheMM360 Check out some of my older videos. But yes, more features are in the works.

  • King Crimson are a wonderful band. Do you like their work from the 1990's on?

  • @Blueecm I do and have several titles on cd. I focused this video on showing the vinyl. I got to see King Crimson a few times in the last ten years and met Adrian, Tony, Pat Mastellotto and Trey Gunn. I was within talking distance of Robert Fripp but frankly, it was one of the few times I felt too intimidated to speak.

  • King Crimson is criminaly lacking from my record-collection. A band I'd love to get into!

  • @stephan73 Go for it!

  • have only few cd's from KC , was introduced to the band with In The Wake Of Poseidon & Discipline records, those first kicks have remain the favorites, especially track Pictures Of The City, ofcourse first album and Red are music-wise maybe better, 2003 Power To Believe is solid stuff

  • @waegiz37 Yes, the more recent recordings have been very good.

  • I reckon Larks' Tongues in Aspic is one of their most artful efforts. My personal favourite. The Discipline album I feel is underrated.

  • @GenesisKnights As I said, it took me awhile to crack it but I would agree that Discipline bears closer scrutiny.

  • Excellent stuff- I just bought USA last night. Their debut is a an absolute must have! Love that album- brilliant! Thanks for making this video!

  • i really enjoy your videos and opinions. the little humor you throw in keeps things really interesting not that the music wasn't already doing so to begin with as well.

  • @TheWestWind17 Thank you.

  • Wholeheartedly agree with your endorsement of the debut Crimson LP. A masterpiece from start to finish (Epitath, Moonchild, 21st Century...). Totally brilliant and to me far more interesting than, say, Sgt Pepper's. Lark's Tongue is also mindbending along with Red. Magic music. Great video.

  • @bigstar1000 Thanks Bigstar1000.

  • thanx alot. im so hyped to get on the crimson wagon. there records are so expensive but i imagine its worth it! m starting by buying the reissue of in the court of. im looking for Red aswell. thats the album that turnd me on to crimson but i have to find it cheaper than 30€ or so...

    thanx

  • @SublimMedia Good luck!

  • I dig it.

  • Man, I still remember the first time I listened to In the Court and my mind continues to be blown 100 listens later.

  • @milkcrateraider No doubt.
