I don't get guys like Tenchi. You have woman that live with you that probably want to get into your pants and you immediately say no. Not even going to give it a second throught. What the Hell!
I agree that the OVA was better than Tenchi in Tokyo, but to Tenchi in Tokyo's credit, I think the characters developed a lot more in it. Kiyone goes from being part of a family-like unit to being mean as usual to actually accepting Mihoshi. Ryoko goes from pirate to naughty ex-pirate to laid-back honest person to nefarious pirate to homesick pirate and back to honest but naughty person again. Tenchi gains an increased appreciation for Ryoko. Sasami makes, loses, and regains a friend.
The one thing I favored about the Tenchi in Tokyo series is the surreal comedy and exaggeration, which wasn't as prevalent in the previous series. Some people don't like it, but I think it's funny. They took an entirely different spin on things and I guess that's what I liked about this series.
However, I really didn't care for Sakuya's character that much and I thought Hotsuma was a royal bitchface... I was so glad when he finally got his in the end.
I can understand that perspective on it. For me though, it didn't so much as lessen the characters, rather it added something to them, albeit differently. Just an opinion.
Admittedly, I don't think the Tokyo series really illustrated the characters' history with as much depth as it should have, like the OVA and Universe series, but the humor made up for a lot of what it was lacking I think.
I'm just a wierdo though and that's only my opinion. Thanks for uploading these, by the way. :)
Yeah, it's funnier, but I feel they killed Tenchi's character. I know he cares for the girls back home, but he just seemed to be a little more harsh about them and with them than before and I like him better where he fought to protect them and just be an all out gentle man. I mean...he can have the new girl who is "normal", but they didn't have to change his personality like that...
I hate Tenchi in Tokyo... I hated it watching the first few episodes, then got used to it midway, and towards the end I was glad it was ending, then afterwards I didn't mind it...
But after not watching it for a while, I realize how much better the OVA and movies and Universe is. I hate Sakuya, Tenchi acts weird in this one, idk something about this series I don't like.
Yeah I agree, too much exaggeration in the animation (like when someone is yelling and their head is HUGE and cartoony, etc.). I hated that and liked the OVA animation the best. The movies are good too, but the 2nd movie animation (Daughter of Darkness) isn't good either.
I like the last movie's because it was very intricate and sort of realistic.
Well in Tokyo, Tenchi didn't finish High School during the OVA series so in this in he wants to finish it in Tokyo cuz his old one got blown up by Ryoko. But the girls are always too "clining" on to him so Tenchi needs some space and alone time to himself, but some events came in with Sakuya and torment is happening making everyone not trusting Tenchi and is in danger... Hope that summons up the plot/story line...
@WretchedDrake Tenchi seems to be a major dick in Tokyo. In the OVAs at least, he liked living with the girls however crazy they may have driven him at times. He cared for them all, and was a lot more considerate of their feelings, particularly for him.

Deadpool: Is anyone surprised that this guy didn't take advantage of the amount of hot women in his house?
Tenchi: I'll be a normal kid without all these crazy women!
Deadpool: AHHHHH!!!!! WHAT HORRIBLE UNIVERSE DID I STEP INTO?! A GUY NOT OOGLING HIS OWN HAREM!? WHAT HORRIBLE UNIVERSE IS THIS?

The funniest moment in Tenchi in Tokyo for me was when Ayeka was laughing her ass off at Ryoko putting on makeup XD

@foxloverfreak I think Ayeka's dub VA was pushing 60 when did her voice. Of course, Ayeka has the personality of a crazy old lady anyway, so it fits.

I enjoyed it to an extent but where I was use to the Tenchi Universe series I felt the animation scheme on this series downgraded the characters.

I liked Universe the best, mainly for the last episode and the carnival analogy. It was just so brilliant.
Also, I think we can all agree OVA 3 blows.
