  • Great!!! CLASSIC!!

  • i love Phil when he do acting..so good mimic and style...:)

  • It's quite funny, I'm listening to the music that my father listened a long time ago, but ii's damn good ;)

  • The original idea was for Phil to do a remake of Steely Dan's 'RICKY Don't Lose THAT number', but Phil wanted to change it a bit.

The whole 'How does it end?' pitch is a reference to the Mtv Contest. Before the video premiered, they showed a few clips from the video and asked people to call in votes on how the video should 'end'.

  • The Dart to the Chest Grosses me out.

  • man =\ they turned down the volume on the only best part of song GUITAR SOLO!!

  • I must admit... this was never my favourite video, but the song is ON!!!!!!

  • darryl steurmer--playing guitar he said--notice--from madison,wisc.;)

  • dude,if u havn't noticed, this video is a spoof of a lot of other music, the black and white with the bass is every step u take, the ocean girls and suit is david lee roth beautiful girls and the end is ground hog, thats just to name a few

  • i like him when he is at the ocean! lol!

  • the best!! all 6:11 of it!

  • one of my fave musicians

  • im a hip hop n r&b dude n i love this song!!!!

  • me 2 !!!

  • ssudio, in the air, err'thing he touch is hot!

  • Great Song!....This is a Phil Collins Jam ; )

  • hey baron bonehead paul mccartney does all the time he sings, does the instruments and everything else phil is great but hes not the only artist that does it

  • this is one of phil's best songs!!! awesome

  • Him & DLR w/ CFG

  • I called a girl....and she told me to lose her number. GO figure

  • What ridiculous, exclude Phil Collins from Rolling' Stone 100, what fiasco....

  • 2:24 who plays billy? . He is so hot!!

  • Love this video. Everyone remember this was 80's quality. Love the Mad Max II/Road Warrior Sequence - great time for Aussie Cinema (operating on a miniscule budget compared to Hollywood).

  • omg Phil is dressed up like Willy Wonka and he with Bathing Suit Girls wow

  • I've heard that's from Elton's "I'm still standing".

  • oh well that's interesting

  • Thought it was from a Van Halen video... Maybe David Lee Roth solo? I want to say "Just a Gigolo"?

  • me acuerdo mucho de esta cancion y de este video en especial.. si mas no recuerdo en aquellas epocas gano un grammy o un American music award.. que buenas epocas..

  • Greatt video

  • Who was the last guy they mentioned just before the Western scene? I like the

Road Warrior scene. My favorite solo

    song of his.

  • merca by base

  • Great evidence there, idiot. Phil wrote, composed, sang, recorded, and mostly produced and played all his music. Tell me any "artist" who can do that today.

Phil is a god, plain and simple.

  • i know i don't have a whole lot of evidence but its not like i can prove it to youtube. i know someone who made up the song and has the original tapes. the original name of the song was don't lose my note. On wikipedia it even says that phil collins doesn't understand what the lyrics mean. thats all the evidence i can tell you.

  • trent reznor

  • Prince

  • Great song except for the speaking in the beginning & during the song.

  • I'll tell you how it ends. It just ends.

  • i think its hilarious how the intro of the video has nothing to do with the song.

  • i think it's hilarious how the rest of the video doesn't seem to have anything to do with anything. or maybe i'm just dense. love the song though.

  • I was with a band back in the late 90's & we did a lot of cover songs. I was the only member who listened to Phil, & each song we played were songs all 4 of us could agree on. Strange enough, our drummer Jeff heard this song when we were playing basketball at my house one day with the radio on, & instantly he wanted us to do a cover of it with him on the drums. I was the singer; He asked me if I knew the words & I was like, "IS THE POPE CATHOLIC?!"

  • what?

  • My dad loves this shit and in turn it made me a fan of Phil Collins and Floyd and Kim Mitchell, etc.

  • I love the way people have given your comment the thumbs down because they are too stupid to read your comment properly, that even though you said 'shit' you then a few words later said you were a fan..thus being positive.. i love but hate youtube sometimes.

  • thats funny, but this old rock is some good shit(stuff). Dont hardly hear artists like this anymore, nowadays its all bump n grind shit(stuff). I guess that makes these old hits, that have so many good memories attached to them, all that much better when you do hear em on the radio. Peace.

  • i love how you say shit and (stuff). it's excellent! bump n grind shit (stuff) magnificent! you are awesomeness!

  • OMG i like so like this song. Its grown on me.

    Awesomeness

  • does anyone know where the west scene was filmed? looks like wild west city in nj.

  • Who's Billy again???

  • You awlays lose my number!!!

  • Thats bcoz ur a twat

  • Maybe u are!!!

  • muy buena las canciones!!

    el mejor!!

  • Phil Collins can appear self indulgent but I'm pretty sure its on purpose.

  • So who is billy anyway?

  • is they intterupted sound registrated avecle bus?????

  • an if there commingthe atomic lights ginve the flash code.....

  • Whoa. The beginning of this was a bit on the self indulgent side.

  • Genius Peter Gabriel & genius Phil Collins, i love the music of the 80´s too, but i wander why they left Genesis

  • One of the best songs of the 80s! Whenever I hear this, it inspires me to do anything I want, ANYTHING I WANT! Thanks for posting. The 80s rule! Those were the days. Nostalgia, nostalgia, and nostalgia!

  • Fantastic Comment Bashir !! When I hear this song, I too get inspired to do "anything I want". Amazing song. Magic song.

  • I loose my number but billie founded. In my heart and soul. thx Phil

  • Ha! Funny how he and the press guy mention

"3:10 To Yuma"! (the old version)

  • So thats why the album is called no jacket required, I see...

  • I love it when he plays sting and david lee roth!!

    LOL

  • the entire album was incredible actually.. randy suesakul.

  • 4:33 is a copy of Elton John's I'm still standing

  • parody

  • Great!

  • 1. Who's Billy?

    2. What ARE they talking about in the beginning?

    3. Are the questions even relevant?

  • They are naming Western movies and actors in the beginning.

  • I REALLY hope it's Billie and not Billy!

  • ThATS FUNNY AND TRUE MY FRIENDS AND I WERE LAUGHING ABOUT YOUR COMMENT

  • wtf r they talking about the beginning, phil n the dude....n i hate wen they put sounds during the song...it ruins the music.

  • and a email with an odbc ore javascript onto a database enviroment????

  • I'm 16 and I think phil collins was pretty cool.

  • i could never hurt you phil collins

  • too bad he'll never promise the same...

  • Same here.

  • why does the beach scene remind me of the david lee roth cover of the beach boys song...

  • cause phil collins ment it to be this came out the yr after cali girls did

  • luv the way he slowly looses hair in the videos lol

  • i luv this song its one of his best ever luv the tune in the background

  • Isn't that a Cold Chisel poster in the background of his desk?

  • 4:34!! Love U Phil!!! haha

  • How come this didn't make it onto the "Hits" album?!?! lol

  • Now think about this. If you had to take a trip to say the Moon, or to Mars, and you had to take some music from Earth along, wouldn't you want to pump this in the Space Ship? lol

  • He is singing about billy joel who was going to do a big show with him and it never came to be. hince the song.

  • ha ha ha billy the kid, ca vaix how is live???

  • hi phil,

it's me, billy. unfortunately i ran into some problems and cannot call you.

please call me. my number is 0049 65176 5933254

    cu

  • Is he supposed to be singing to Billy the Kid? One of Phil Collin's best songs ^_^

  • soooooooo meta!!!!!!

  • At 3.01, the guy acting like Mel Gibson in Mad Max looks like a much younger Tcheky Karyo. Could it be really him?

  • Somehow songs like this one set Phil and Genesis miles apart from other pop groups from the period. Keyboards, perc machines, everything is here, but all is inexplicably deeper. There's strange sensation in the air when you listen. Maybe it's Phil's voice...

  • This, my 20 something friends, IS MTV! I should know, I was watching it the first week it existed.....

  • No, the 80's were the golden age. The 90's were sub-par, though the late night programming consisting of actual music videos was good. Saying 80's MTV was "horrible" is horrible.

  • Well, when you put it like that.....

  • Billy who? Great song ^^

  • son meilleurs album

  • 1985!!greatyear for music and movies,I was 7 or 8,this was the first tape I had as a kid

  • i won my first dance competition off this song

  • is it true that this was written for phil's friendship with billy joel?

  • I think its about some kid who drowned in a bathtub or something.

  • ha ha ha how is the black crulled polo rider, maxima????

    lots invalved, money goes suod!!!!

  • Très bons souvenirs, cette musique était sur un best of des 69 points de Michael Jordan en 89,c'est excellent!!!

  • kirk douglas

  • how does it end?

  • I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece.

  • Doesn't get much better than this. Phil at his very best. Top man.

  • me encanta, amo a ese hombre

  • 80s >>>>> Any other decade!

  • OMG This video is amazing!

  • I can see that Phil Collins will get a lifetime achment award... he is so talented!

  • flash back

    k buena cancion

    (Y)

  • eso es todo collins regresa a mexico please

  • la verdad que collins una excelente cantante hay veces que lo prefiero de solista que con genesis

  • LOL, I love this song, but who's Billy? And who is that 'Mal Kraggs' guy that Phil and Peter mention? Why were they calling out a bunch of random names? Weird intro...

Anyway, I've uploaded the extended 12" version of this song, for anyone who wants to listen

  • Billy seems to be Billy the Kid.

  • The other names aren't random, they're all stars of westerns.

My opinion, Mal Kraggs is a fictional western star that Phil is supposed to be playing in the western segment.

  • great song. thinking about redoing it.

  • Phil Collins is so cute!! I love his music and I still kind of have a crush on him!

  • HES GOT A FUCKED UP HAIRLINE.

  • No! His hair is awesome it's part of what makes phil collins phil collins his weird hair

  • Just to let you know, I'm a girl!

  • I don't know, why it's hard to find a sense in the refrain "Billy, don't lose my number." Billy is the person, who must hide and his friend must know the number, so he is the only one, who can find him.

I've read that some people don't find any sense in it *g*

  • As always nice song by Phil Collins´

    and nice sandwich too!!

  • 4:33 to 4:56, I NEED his willy wonka suit with top hat, sunglasses, cummerbund and pimp cane!

  • he he i believe elton john used that as well.

  • the whole video is ripped off from other videos.look close and youll see the police "I'll be watchin you"

  • EAT A DICK.

  • you offering?

  • IF U A FEMALE .

  • IF NOT ILL KILL U FAG.

  • DUDE!!!U got a SERIOUS attitude problem!!!

  • SHUT UP PUSSY FAG ASS BITCH.

  • you obviously enjoy looking in the mirror, vex!!!

  • IMMA HURT U PUSSY.

  • KEEP IT UP.

  • back atcha!

  • well,I'm not gonna dignify you any further, except to say:GROW UP! have a nice life!

  • a "rip off" is when you still ideas without giving credit. This is not a "rip off" of other videos..the WHOLE POINT of the video is that its a commentary on the video making process etc.

  • ok...bad choice of phrases

  • "Peter?" Is he subtly trying to take a stab at his former band mate, Peter Gabriel?

  • well yeaah I think he actually is.

  • willy wanka part with suit n cane

  • the video is great but.. they shouldn't have all that extra sound in it plus they keep turning down the song for the audio track. a great video, bad music video

  • Great!!,great sandwich.Phils best video.

  • Ok, so now you're outside the fort -- this is not to scale of course LOL

  • I like how Phil Collins uses this in his videos, he portrays the making of the making of the video, he does this in easy lover as well.

  • Good sense of humor on this concept.

  • he had hair!

  • This one is so much fun to watch! It has been many years since I have seen this. Thanks for posting!

  • CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!

  • On the ninja sword scene, PC mostly looked like Bill Murray.

  • "OK, you're at the beach!"

    Love it.

BTW, how many references to specific videos/movies were there?

    1) Mad Max / Road Warrior

    2) David Lee Roth / California Girls

    3) The Cars / You Might Think

    Any other specific ones?

  • Also,

    4) The Police / Every Breath You Take

  • 5)Elton John / I'm still standing

  • Hell yeah Elton John/ I'm still Standing. Damn they'll never be like that again! Classic!!!

  • 6) Billy Say Don't == Frankie Say Relax (Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Relax)

  • A kickass reminder that MTV used to be about music, and that music videos were a goldmine of creativity, despite the fact that some of them are dated by sound and/or vision. Still, an undeniable classic!

  • kool song!
