I'm not a goalie, but I'm assuming he first stepped out to cut down the angles in case Ovie shot it...and since Ovie was coming from the right the goalie thought the defenseman was going to keep Ovechkin to his right, and when Ovie was able to go around to the left, the goalie was too slow and too stretched out to slide over to the other side, so he simply tried to protect the ice level with his stick but was too far out to get the entire ice which thus produced an amazing goal!

the thing is, ovie is much more well-rounded than crosby or malkin. last season, ovie had 50+ goals AND assists, while both the pens' superstars were in the 30s in goals, 70s in assists. not to knock crosby or malkin, both are very talented hockey players, but ovie, i think, is better than both.

Crosby didn't have better stats than Ovie in their one on one series...Crosby's team won, but it's not because Crosby was better than Ovechkin. Ovie from what I remember had more points/shots/hits than Crosby in that series.

Again, if Crosby was that much better than Ovechkin he would be up for more awards than Ovechkin...but he isn't...he isn't even the best player on the team b/c Malkin is up for MVP two years in a row, plus Malkin won the plyaoff MVP and Crosby didn't.

I live in California, actually...but been a loyal Wings fan for 12 years. As far as Ovie being the best, I think all you have to look at his MVP nominations and MVP wins. He has THREE Pearson nominations in four years. Malkin has two in three....but Ovechkin not only gets nominated for the best, he gets voted as the best. Watch for him to win those trophies again this year.

Plus minus is NOT all about the lines, if that was true everyone on his line would have the same plus minus...but they don't. Ovechkin averages 50 assists in the regular season for four seasons now and he had 9 in 14 games during the playoffs, how is that selfish? You're an idiot.

Ovechkin gets a lot of goals 30 feet away while being covered by a d-man, most of Crosby's goals are next to the net when there is no defender pushing him off.

Ovechkin is currently first in goals/points/plus minus/shots, and third in hits. Ovechkin is plus 11, Crosby is plus 5, Malkin is -2...wow...plus Ovechkin can score from 30 feet away, not get those 2-5 feet garbage goals that Crosby usually gets.

Crosby is great, but Ovechkin is much much better.

they are more complete players. Sure ovechkin is the best GOAL scorer but other than that he has very little assists compared to crosby and malkin. Not to take anything away from alex but i believe that this year Crosby would have beat both of them for the scoring title if he wasnt injured for an entire month.

Well it's the center's job to set up the wingers, that's why wingers tend to have more goals than assists and centers have more assists than goals.

As for Ovie, he's assists aren't too shabby since he averages over 50 assists per season, and that by itself is impressive. Career numbers his goals to assists are almost identical with just 18 more goals than assists.

Both Ovie and Malkin had more points per game than Crosby who played 77 games. Crosby wouldn't have beaten either one in points.
