@HBKfan222 Actually, im not a Bulldog fan. Im just not an HBK fanboy and I know what he did in the past. He was a self centered jerk so don't act like he wasn't. It was people like you who he fooled and took advantage of.
@TheChaserofSouls noone says shawn wasnt a jerk, jerk or not he had soooo many great matches, the guy cud wrestle a ladder and it wud be fun to watch, im not even talking about his main event matches, even minor matches like the one against skip in 95, jeff jarret in 95, adam bomb in 95, marty jannety in 94...not to mention the lassics wit hhh, taker, stone cold, kurt angle etc...won or lost those matches were fun to watch
@prettyboyswag317 That was also around the time that gimmicks ruled the WWE. Today, there are hardly any gimmicks. Had Shawn started today, he'd be a mid-carder.
@TheChaserofSouls A mid carder? Are you serious. Shawn has so much talent and he put over EVERYBODY when he returned and none of those guys are even relevant now. WWE is a joke. Plus around this time nobody liked Shawn's gimmick except for young girls and soccer moms. His gimmick was sometimes his biggest downfall. So, basically, your argument sucks.
@1932Brownies Yes, he's talented but so is half of WWE's roster. These days, Shawn would half been fucked over like that half of talented guys aswell. You just misunderstood my comment. Read it again.
@TheChaserofSouls I dont see how I did. Are you making the argument that their are guys in this business today as talented as Shawn? I'll give you one and that is CM Punk.
@TheChaserofSouls Great assumption! Considering he is one of the greatest in ring performers of all time, I guess the WWE is just crapping out Legend's these days. Maybe I should start watching again? Nope! I'll just brush aside your absurd comment and use my own eyes as judgment. Clearly you dont know much about talent.
@1932Brownies SMH, im not doubting the star power of Shawn Michaels. Im saying if he had debuted in the last 5 years he would not have been as big as a star as he is now. He was very fortunate to have debuted in the 80's. There is plenty of guys there now who are awesome in the ring but are being held back by WWE. THATS WHAT IM SAYING. He would be one of those guys being held back.
@TheChaserofSouls He debuted when the likes of Hogan and every other big name was holding back guys. That was much worse. Even then Vince wouldnt run with "smaller" guys.
@TheChaserofSouls This is simply because he didn't think he would sell as well. Look at these guys today, none of them are going to need 8 years of experience to get the belt.
@TheChaserofSouls The talent pool back in the late 80's and early 90's was amazing. If he would debut today with all his talents he would be over and champ within two years tops!
@TheChaserofSouls I never said they were not. They are definitely talented. However this talent does not compare to the talent pool of the early nineties.
@TheChaserofSouls I just said it didn't compare to the 90's. As in the 90's was far more crowded with talent and superstars than now. There is no way HBK would have been held back.
@TheChaserofSouls See my post below on the early 90's. Well nevermind I will just repost them. Here. Bret Hart, Jim Neidhart, Owen Hart, Curt Henning, The British Bulldog, HBK, Marty Jannety, Scott Hall, Jeff Jaret, The Dynamite Kid, and others I am sure. These guys were midcards because of superstars like Hogan, Flair, Warrior, Macho Man, Dibiase, Slaughter, Yoko and Sid. Now that is an insane amount of star power.
@TheChaserofSouls Bret Hart, Jim Neidhart, Owen Hart, Curt Henning, The British Bulldog, HBK, Marty Jannety, Scott Hall, Jeff Jaret, The Dynamite Kid, and others I am sure.
@TheChaserofSouls These guys were midcards because of superstars like Hogan, Flair, Warrior, Macho Man, Dibiase, Slaughter, Yoko and Sid. Now that is an insane amount of star power.
@TheChaserofSouls Shawn is a diffent breed of talent. Plus you said his gimmick was a big reason for popularity at that time, and his gimmick wasn't popular. That us what you said.
This is what made wrestling, the talent that paid a price to earn those championships not talentless trash like del rio that get championships promised to them in their contracts. WWE used to be about showcasing talent. Now it's all about internet popularity, contracts, and catering to the egos of the Internet Wrestling Community.
Say what you want about Michaels or the match but there's one thing you can't deny. This was leaps and bounds over any PPV WWE has put on as of late. HBK, HHH, British Bulldog, Rick Rude, and the rest of the Hart family you all have my eternal respect. Alberto del rio you and the rest of the overpushed noobs can all go to hell. No matter how many championships WWE gives you you will never achieve the level of greatness and respect that these men earned.
Well when everyone thinks about it, winning this match just made HBK look like an even bigger son-of-a-bitch, which I think is exactly what the company wanted. Bulldog was the favourite in every way in this match, home favourite cuz it was in the UK, sentimental favourite cuz he dedicated his match to his sister, who was ill with cancer, and he was the European Champion defending the strap in Europe. So Bulldog losing elevated Michaels to being an even bigger prick. Clever booking
Top comments. Wow. Dude, I've never hated younger fans so much, especially when you really have no idea what you're talking about.
Fuck you, Shawn. Yes, you're probably one of the greatest performers, but along with that, you're also one of the biggest pieces of shit to hold the WWF title.
I guess it was Bulldogs fault for not being on the fucking booking committee, like a certain boy toy was.
I love it how they used to approach matches as athletic contests. Listen to how the commentators make it seem as though this is a legit match/fight. Listen to Michael Cole nowadays makes my ears puke. How many times can he say the word "vintage" ?
This was one of the biggest examples of ego power-playing by Michaels. This was on Pay-per-view in the UK, Canada and other European countries, but only available to the US on VHS at a later date, so had Bulldog won like it was agreed long in advance it would not of had much impact on HBK's or DX's US image. The beatdown was certainly uncalled for. Wrestling is a work, yes but Smith was a HUGE star in the UK and to his fans, Bulldog never lost in the UK, it was against wrestling law. RIP big man
@Taylorslade123 shawn was the biggest star wwf had at a time when all the biggest superstars were in wcw. he was the only thing that held the company together until austin the fresh face took over. why should he lose to a mid carder like bulldog? even if it is in the uk, hbk should NEVER lose to bulldog.
Because it's in the UK, it doesn't hurt his image to lose here. And it's not just this match but there are tons of other examples where HHH & HBK made sure they would win instead of someone else
@MasterOfTimeForever I found out that the reason Shawn won this match is because the booking team in the WWF was already making the match between Shawn and Bret Hart in Montreal at Survivor Series. But Davey actually came up with an idea that he should win in England. But Shawn said it would have been better that he win so that it could really set up a crash course that would culminate in Montreal. I guess that Vince decided to go with Shawn's argument over Davey's.
@murdt61 also why Bulldog had to put over Michaels was the company wanted to draw a bigger revenue for the next PPV and draw over 50-60,000 and to have Bulldog to get over and win the strap, like how Michaels got over in his home town at the Royal Rumble 97 when Sid did the job for him. Makes good business sense to go with that. And not to mention Michaels & Hunter were a part of the booking team with Brisco & McMahon.
Shawn Michaels was ripped here!
