  • What amazed me the most was...how did his guitar not explode at the end of that tribute??!!! hey... who said Jeff Beck was a genius? It was probably Jeff Beck clicked on ''dislike'' 3 times.

  • what is the very first tune?

  • @craig4fsu windy and warm by chet atkins

  • @sidneyandherbie it was written by John D. Loudermilk.

  • @delorme42 thanks i stand corrected - this was the first chet/loudermilk song i learnt many years ago - still trying to get it right!!!

  • It just doesn't get any more badass than this! Period! ;)

  • when they say Jeff Beck is a genious I listen to this guy.

  • @lorenv96311

i hear ya, wonder what they say about Michael Hedges...god?

    just the younger unappreciative/unknowing/ignorant generation...

  • what a great player

  • hi ed, this will amuse the legion of tommy fans - just go to his web site for his tour dates - he appears in most countrys and you will have no bother finding USA dates

  • Does anybody know if this guy tours? He's really good.

  • A truly amazing acoustic guitarist! Just finished watching a 90 minute special of a performance he did at Sierra Nevada Brewery on our local PBS station here in North Texas, KERA. In a word - WOW!

  • @TheOutriger nice on 'outriger' see you at the 2012 arlington guitar show perhaps

  • Every once in a while the Universe will let us know exactly how love goes!

  • How could anyone dislike this? It's epic. Only explanation is they were enjoying themselves so much they clicked the wrong button.

  • yea here I am 3 hrs later !!!!

  • whats the song at 1:50 ???????

  • @tasco2 wheels!

  • TOMMY LIVES IN NASHVILLE????? I JUST MOVED HERE AND JUST DISCOVERED HIM FOR THE FIRST TIME AND AM ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE. DOES HE REALLY REALLY LIVE I NASHVILLE????

  • the strongest thumb in the world !

  • Thanks for the vid post. I already have my tickets for his October concert here in East Tennessee. The 10th time I've seen this incredible artist!

  • He is the best!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh! out of this world! What a picker Tommy is, right up there as good as Merle, Chet and the Alabama wildman himself, what a treat.

  • Doctors should stop prescribing anti depressant meds and instead give a link to this video.

the way he plays cannonball rag is f***ing badass!

  • Ahhh...Finally i found guitar heaven.

Inst the tune he plays at 7:24 Jerry Reeds "Lightning Rod"?

  • @MrPandaHarassment have you seen amazing grace from buccleuch centre langholm? you will be in heaven!!

  • @MrPandaHarassment

I don't think so. To my ear it's "Caravan" See the Wikipedia page for Caravan_(song)

  • @p47429 yeaaaa...I really should have looked up caravan before posting, its pretty sick(in a good way) how he plays that. did you know that tommy uses flame retardant on his guitars to keep them from combusting during his set?

  • @MrPandaHarassment No, that is Caravan from Chet's "A Session with Chet Atkins" circa 1958.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrPandaHarassment

It's Caravan. First played by Ellington.

  • one of my favorite guitar videos ever. he's amazing.

  • just seeing Tommy the way he plays his guitar makes your heart to sing with a big smile!... :)

  • Holy Crap!!!!!!!!!! Tommy is THE MAN!!!!!!!

  • @gotwins25

    Indeed!

  • Does anyone has the tabs for this song haha!

    Absolutly brilliant performence!

  • incredible great artist .

  • There's something about his stage persona which puts me in mind of Michael Mckintyre...

  • 4:08 AMAZING

  • Tommy just isn't human............ absolutely incredible!

  • Phew... Tommy E, , The greatest, biased but True

  • check out my channel sometime guys, im going to be putting on some of his concert in australia soon.

  • its sad, there was a time when any little song on the guitar blew my mind, then i started playing and realized "hey this isnt so hard after all".... then i discovered chet atkins tommy emmanuel and jerry reed for myself and im right back to sqaure one.

  • The best guitarist in the world....

  • its sad we cant claim him for america

  • @ThePeeplet at least he lives in Nashville -

  • @sidneyandherbie But he'll always be an Aussie!

  • @ThePeeplet He's unclaimable, his music belongs to everyone. :)

  • @ThePeeplet Yeah. You tried to nick / imitate lots of things from us Brits. Now it's the ozzys you're after.

  • Thanks for this post...- I was there at that concert but can't remember why I didn't video it myself. Very disappointed at last year's (2010) concert in Glasgow -not being allowed by RCH staff to video anything. I emailed Tommy's management team and they are more than happy to have public filming and posting here in YTube!!

So what's the problem all of a sudden??

  • Tommy is the best guitar player I've ever seen, he's simply mind boggling.

  • 4:08...

  • I wish i had a dollar for every hour this guy has played. simply the best i,ve ever heard.

  • @mead5150 me too - i see you are tommy fan - hope you have seen my other vids-regards, david in scotland

  • @sidneyandherbie Yes i have' love amazing grace 2 and many others. I'm a metal head or used to be. now just spend the day tapping my foot even when there is no music. Thank for the great vids' keep them coming. their are not to many tommy video's that i haven't seen, and i'm ready for more. thanks and stay safe.

  • Amazing.

  • the best guitarist in the world

  • It is Jerry Reed tribute, not Chet Atkins

  • OMG The strongest thumb in the world...

8 minutes of pure boom chick O_o

  • @insaneguitarfreak thanks for the comment, i am impressed with your own playing well done

  • @sidneyandherbie Thanks for that kind words:) and for posting the video, I dream with meeting tommy someday.^^

  • tommy is definitely the medley meister of all time...

  • an inspiration to all

  • could anyone give me a list of all the songs he is playing, in order?

  • thanks to 'yellowpostbox' for this list last year Windy & Warm (1:27) Wheels (1:49) The Claw (2:15) Bye-Bye Blackbird (2:49) Saturday Night Shuffle (3:26) Deed I Do (4:22) Yankee Doodle Dixie (4:39) Waltzing Matilda (5:22) Wildwood Flower (5:36) Lover Come Back To Me (5:51) Avalon (6:37) Caravan (7:24) Cannonball Rag (8:16)
  • Jago, that was a little ditty from "Wildwood Flower" mixed in with "Waltzing Matilda."

I personally love how he mixes in the song "Caravan" with "Cannonball Rag."

While Tommy may have been a great guitarist no matter what, the late Chet Atkins influence in his style has made him even greater! Check out the album they did together titled "When The Fingerpickers Took Over The World." It's a guitar album for "all time."

  • great comment, dugger

  • 5:36 - 5:43 sounds awesome!

  • I have watched hundreds of TE videos and seen him live twice and I never cease to be amazed.

  • I can't stop hearing this........

  • of all my vids this one is no. 1

  • lol I saw him on February 11th, and he ROCKED

  • Fantastic!

  • thanks go and see him - it only gets better

  • just wonderful medley!

  • stochelo rosenberg is a different class.. and check out daniello desiderio. .... and then talk to me!!

  • i love the rosenberg trio, and the Pizarelli vvideo is excellent, thanks for directing me to them. I consider tommy to be a great showman, guitarist and person, dont say he is the best but hes up with the greats. jeff beck is one of my top guitarsts but listen to him play Apache and its awful Once heard Martin Taylor play rock and roll, pure embarrasement. well thats enought of all that. there are just so many greats out there

  • I'd like to have a copy of a tab on this... but... it would probably take about a year for it to download... even on cable. I used to think a lot of rock guitarists were really good until I heard about Tommy Emmanuel a couple of months ago. My former "Guitar Heroes" couldn't begin to play like Tommy, and I doubt there isn't any riffs Tommy couldn't play of theirs, only better. Tommy's not God... but his talent and hands are certainly God-given.

  • nicely said!

  • wheels - take a look at the HD version for a full list

  • Cheers for uploading this, it is making me remember great memories of this gig. Definitely one of the best gigs I have ever attended, it is amazing how he can keep you so entralled and interested with pretty just an acoustic guitar and the occasional song with vocals.

By the end of the gig you just want to go see him all over again and no two gigs are the same since his repertoire is just staggeringly huge and he doesn't set out beforehand what he will play on the night.

  • well expressed - it was probably the best performance ive seen of him - everything was just right

  • so sad, but he would have appreciated tommy's tribute as we all did - plus chets contribution etc

  • I heard about Jerry Reed awhile ago couldn't believe it.

  • I am missing my yearly shot of Tommy - nothing booked this year so far!

Enjoy yourself - hes a great guy

  • I'm looking forward to his concert in Amsterdam in April! He's great, he's god.

  • what a concert!!!

I am about to re-do it in hi def

  • Sooooo Amazing! TE is the MAN!

He has a Gift that no other has!

  • What file format did you upload this as? It looks stupendous! YouTube seems to have a done a good job of transcoding.

  • sony HD miniDV tape - a good start

Adobe prem CS3 convert to 'wmf 2kmbps'

which is quite high- close up to Tommy

    and what a performance

  • The greatest!

  • he sure is be sure to see amazing grace at Langholm (Buccleuch Centre)

  • fantastic. that was my favourite ever gig. tommy is a testament to what humans can do when they put their minds to it :D

  • he just gets better thanks for the comment

  • Yep, he has played since he was 4 years old I believe and practically lives music. His technique is fearsome but it is his feel with sometimes such technical music which takes my breath away.

The way he articulates melodies is wonderful. Although I am not religious myself it seems that Christianity has helped a lot and given him an even greater drive in life and got him out of his dark period so those who complain about the fact he got into Christianity, without it we might not have him today.

  • great guitarist

  • This is classic. Tommy was,is and will be The One :-)

  • is there really any debate anymore?

  • it looks too easy for him.

    he didnt break a sweat.

great stuff dude. thanks alot of the post

  • This is great footage! It's almost shot like an instructional dvd :-)

thanks for shooting and posting this.

    Ed.

  • does anyone know the names of the songs?

  • Windy & Warm (1:27) Wheels (1:49) The Claw (2:15) Bye-Bye Blackbird (2:49) Saturday Night Shuffle (3:26) Deed I Do (4:22) Yankee Doodle Dixie (4:39) Waltzing Matilda (5:22) Wildwood Flower (5:36) Lover Come Back To Me (5:51) Avalon (6:37) Caravan (7:24) Cannonball Rag (8:16)
  • Swedish Rhapsody snuck in between Wheels and The Claw

  • I was there..!!..Tommy was superb..He is a class act, Top musician,..And a genuine guy who hasn't vanished up his own arse, like some of the other guitarists i've seen... if you get the chance go and seesome class..terrific..cant wait till he comes back to glasgow again..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • I was there too..!! This was a really nice end to the show. It was one of the best one man guitar shows ever played. I don't think I heard a single wrong note and the Lenny Breau style harmonic stuff is stunning.

  • hi Chris will look at your stuff soon - I am new to utube and will maybee post more stuff or my own playing!!!

  • yes 'hairy' he is a great bloke and has done a lot for me - as a long time electric guitarist now doing acoustic for fun he's an inspiration

  • Hi - I was sitting next to you at the gig last night. When I saw that you recorded the encore I was hoping that it would appear on here (esp after Tommy's pro Youtube comments). Good Job! It was a rare treat last night to see Tommy playing in such close proximity.

  • High five for the camera work. What an ending to a great night. My favourit medley right at the end .third time seeing tommy the best yet thanks

  • thanks jg - I love filming concerts and use HD - simply go home and watch it again and again

  • Great video. First time I have seen him play Wildwood flower. ´What a talent. It is easy to tell which songs he likes the most. Avalon is one of them I guess, Doyle Dykes likes it too.
