Well, there certainly are a lot of blanks and throughout history there has been a lot of suffering because people filled in the blanks differently. Are saying that we need to take *everything* in the bible 100% literally? Are you really that lame? The reason why carbon dating isn't used to determine the time of death is because the accuracy in the best case is +/- 20 years. When measuring dates 20,000 years ago, 20 years is insignificant. When dealing with much older things, scientists use radiometric dating. It too can be off by a few percent, but over millions of years its unimportant. Not in schools? I learned about it in high school during the 1970s and my kids still get taught it.

A measuring instrument is designed to accurately measure something, eg a scale for weight, clock for time etc. In order to gain further accuracy, each valid instrument can be tweaked to suit eg, you can tweak a yardstick by redesigning it, using the same basic concept to get a slide rule for measuring the hair...Why can't you redesign carbon testing to measure 10 years?
