The sad thing is, that the more this kind of living catches on, the higher the chance that this sort of thing will be requlated out of being. The powerful wont make as much money if everyone were to live like this. its sad.
@PghGingerKid dont be so cynical. This kind of living is about people and production being connected in an organic way. Lets say the "powerful" control large-scale farming, and the companies that would create parts for a fridge, and then the companies that would ship all these goods.. By making his own greenhouse, and his own "living roof" cellar/fridge unit, this guy cuts those powerful people off! Yr power in society is yr consumption, and your choice to consume less cuts those "powerful" off
So totally awesome...except for the wifi. Why in the world would anyone have this as part of a "healthy" set up? Just about nothing worse for you than wireless signals close by. Absolutely stunned to find it here.
Anyone interested in starting an ecovillage/permaculture farm in the Bahamas? An initial financial investment would be necessary to secure land and a commitment of at least 6 months/ year living on site. Please send a msg to my inbox.
I am in the process of developing an eco village. I first want to get as much info as possible. I interesting that I do not see to many ecovillages using sterling engines combined with the solar power array.
curious about the grey water system with the showers / cleaning area(?). any ifo on black water? what do you do about hormones (birth control) water conservation issues.
its green hay that produces enough heat to catch fire if its stacked to tightly in the barn. We had some to catch fire that way. People build houses out of straw and stucco them so I don't think its a fire hazard like green hay is...
I like the fact that you were able to take the bank of the housing equation! I would love to put my artist ideas in action and build a cobb or adobe cottage.
i like th green house but id be worried about the bails catching fire i know large staks of hey can catch fire due to its own heatproducing chemical reactions does anybody know if a bail of hey has the same problem
@ABCarlough it simply doesnt. if they are a bit wet. if you ever had such thing in your hands there would not be this question. i live in vilage outside of city, and in 20 years i do nbot remember anywhere be such incident
@veodoro pretty sure it does and i am also from a rural area and have held lots of hey, lol. but i can understnad hy you wouldnt have seen this becasu generaly people dont want to there feed to be lost to decay or fire so they keep it in barns.
@ABCarlough I bought 30 bales wh/straw to help warm my greenhouse this winter not even a whiff of smoke! in fact it is steamy in there. The herbs look as if it is summer. There are kneehigh wheat plants everywhere that I have been juicing. Not sure if the tropical trees made it yet that will be evident (or not) in a couple months... all depends on if the freezing temps in the soil got past the bales... as they start to decay I am going to use them for strawbale planters. WIN-WIN lol
@CANvsDK in the grey water.. not too much in the way of mosquitoes. the soaps kill the bacteria that the larvae need to survive. My mom and i use grey water from the washer on our front yard. It keeps ants, butterfly eggs & aphids out of the lawn as well..
There is a misunderstanding here. The term "Civilization" or "being civilized" means that you do not do everything you can. That's the basic meaning of being civilized. When we talk about Civilization today it's a perverted version of the very nature of being civilized because "Civilization" does everything what she can do. Polluting nature, poisoning minds of children, making the people sick mentally and physiologically just to keep the economy going. Therefore "Civilization" is not civilized.
No misunderstanding. Dont get to in your head about it the word and or concept. While you sound RIGHT! listen to yourself, be smart! Something bigger here for you.
I visited breifly when i was hitching around U.S. when i was younger. Its not fsar from Hornwald (hole in the wall TN. I liked it there, first time i ever heard of people not eating meat and living healthy, lol. I learned alot from the short time i was there, i have never forgot it and except for no meat ever i would probley love to go back and live there. keep doing what your doin cuz it the right thing!
Something that's sad is how so many people are just too greedy or lazy or both to do what needs to be done. Some people see what's ahead and are doing something, but others continue on like nothing is coming. I personally live a simple life. My life (with a few modifications that I'm working on) could be considered sustainable. If I can do it, anybody can. Stop making excuses. The mass media in general is full of shit.
I LOVE YOU! Lets talk about the world and life and the options we can use to help the people on the world who need places like this to go to! I am good at advertisement, and I can help you, us, in anyway needed, Let me know what I can do here in Canada. ALBERT YOUR THE MAN! SEE YA AT THE BEACH! Lmao peace to you and ours!
Wow, this is the first time I've been back to the Farm since I lived there back in the 70's! It was wonderful to get inspired with ideas from you! Thanks so much!
I agree. Infact the internet is one of the technologies that are very useful.
If you take out the big data farms and only stick with some of the simpler systems, the internet can be self sustaining with just a few solar panels at main hubs.
The internet is also a useful tool, especially for people like myself who are researching how to live and create ecovillages.
What's funny is the the "research" can be done with books and you can also live in the ecocommunity and learn from the people there. You can do a combination of that and other things to gain knowledge.
Internet is good for people to learn a little of something without gaining the useful experience of how to implement the knowledge, which you would get by leaving the house.
In a truly functional community, the internet would not be of much use.
Yes. Once you have a community set up there isn't much need for it within that community.
But I am looking at a bigger picture than just a singular community. If we all run away to create communities in the woods, civilization will just run us down.
We need to be communicating with other villages and the rest of the world in order to secure the future of a sustainable life, and stop civilization running humanity off the earth.
The internet will not spread wings and fangs and put up any form of defense if a the communities come under attack.
The internet has no utilitarian use for "bringing down the master".
Just think about it. Communities are spread so far apart and each one has maybe 300 members. Do you know how easy it will be to take them out one by one?
No offence, but I am not going to do your research for you.
If you look into protests where media was stricktly prohibited, they were successful due to the protesters recording it themselves and broadcasting over the internet.
Just look up on the internet the number organized over the internet.
"Truthers" protested and demanded "facts about 9/11. College students in the 60/70's protested the Vietnam war. There are "tea
party" protests. Ecovillage protests. etc.
"Protests" are basically people getting into big groups and demanding the government grant them their wishes.
Protests are not productive activities. You are wasting your time doing it. Time you could spend expanding ecovillages and maybe investing in defense.
Just to list the 2 most recent examples. Please do you own research and look outside your own country. The protests I have seen in the states yes have done nothing.
The ecovillage in southern england would have been destroyed if it wasn't for the protest they had over it. lammas
The Greek prime minister resigned Dec 2008 after 40,000 people protested, then the police killed someone and they burned the police stations.
Makes a lot of sense! I am a believer for sure and remember years ago working w a doctor from the farm at the hospital I was working. Great guy!

Sorry. But the internet has already proved it self in peoples movements.
It has saved lives and caused governments to fall.
Yes a community of 300 will be destroyed easily.
but if you have the internet, 300 can become 30,000, and supporters from the outside.

I don't expect anyone to do anything for me. I am an independent man.
Now what, might I ask, has a "protest" achieved?
Did it put food on the table?
Clothes on your back?
Burglars out of your house or stopped them in the act of burglary?
An invading army out of your community?
What is a "protest" and of what importance is it?
OutdoorsBlackMan 2 years ago
Yes it has.
Just look up protests regarding the survival of ecovillages.
Stop asking does this do that plz, until you have looked into it.
