Of course supersonic air travel was never given a chance thanks to the hysterics of the know nothing NIMBY crowd about noise and sonic booms and exagerated claims that the engines of supersonic planes would produce excess amounts of nitrous oxide ripping holes in the ozone layer. The fact was that the jet engines on planes like the Concorde didn't produce any more nitrous oxide then most of the other jet aircraft of the era. But then again SSTs were pigs on fuel too.
Ya, I really like the "corded" Video phone - gotta have one of those ? and being able to watch 3 grainy at best movies at the same time, from some 8mm projector, gotta have that too - ? Yup - looks like the Future minus the IPHONE, Blackberrys, laptops, wireless devices , apple devices, and minus the TSA search all your private parts - Yup, Dats Da Future !
@tiadaid They did believe that at the time. Rapid progress had been made in the decade of the sixties. From 1959 to 1969 they saw air travel change from piston engine aircraft ( Connies, DC-6s and DC-7s ) to wide-bodied jets (B747s, L1011s and DC-10s). They saw from 1961 to 1969 how the USA went from have rockets that barely got off the ground to landing men on the moon. The sky was the limit and faster was the order of the day. Back then that was their reality. It didn't work out.
Absolutely Amazing fun! And how far off they really were! Braniff International was so cutting edge, it's terrible they no longer fly. Flying just isn't the same with the loss of Braniff and the other progressive carriers. Braniff did in fact fly the Concorde under their own service for a few years in the late 70s/Early 80s from DFW to Washington and I think New York, where British Airways or Air France pilots would take the controls and continue to Europe. -The only US airline to do so.
Was it just me or did everyone else hear the part at 00:28 when the narrator says 'a friendly computer already knows more about you than you do'?!?! Creepy!
Braniff out of business, Boeing SST cancelled and the airport, People in blue shirts that feel up children. That's the future!?

Remember the supposed "SST" from 2001? Orion III....Kinda resembled a mix between the B-2707 and the L-2000.

The visionaries at Boeing pictured a shining future that was very similar to an Epcot ride, where creepy manneqins/robots wore silvery tunics.

hm, that's comforting.
also like the idea of watching three movies at one time, such a time-saver.

quite interesting. those air to air shots look pretty real to me. even though the 2707 never made it past the full size mock up stage.

Little did we know the future would be sitting in cramped E190's and Regional Jets getting charged $2 for an oversalted pack of peanuts.

This ad's made in the 60s right? Do they really think things are going to progress so fast in just a decade?

Well, they may have been off in their prediction of air travel, but they did manage to predict the arrival of HeadOn (at 1:29). Who knew!

molested, barefoot passengers in shackles would be a bit more accurate a depiction of todays air travel than this optimistic view from yesteryear.

Dear All,
I have some questions about psychology and vision:
(1) Why do we love flying?
(2) Why do we enjoy supersonic flying?
(3) Why do we think that supersonic flying will become popular?
(4) Why do we want to pilot a supersonic jet, such as Boeing 2707?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)
