My first dog was a westie and he was with me 15 years. I've had my second westie, Lily, for ~5 years now and she was a runt so she stayed small. She's the smallest grown westie I've ever seen.

She is the absolute best dog in the world. She is so smart and although she's 5, she learns new words and tricks constantly.

The only downside is that she has dry eye (common in westies) and her vision is deteriorating, regardless of maintenance.

I will have westies for the rest of my life!

Maisy is amazing. She just has the best temperment, and is great with new people, kids, older people. And shes also great with other dogs. Highly reccomending getting a Westie.

My westie Leia is always wanting to play fetch, and she tilts her head like that every time she hears a new sound. She was sooo cute as a puppy, but is still adorable :D

She's amazingly smart too- she learned how to spell, so now we can't use 'w-a-t-e-r' or 'o-u-t' or 'c-a-r' without her knowing what we mean.

They are fabulous companions.

I only had one ( Katie aged 16).

She had a great life but it improved when another Westie stayed with me for the last 5 years of her life.

They are such sociable dogs that its, almost, "sorry guys"!!! unfair to just have one.

They adore Dog playmates and no-one can always be there.

Within a week of my beloved Katie dying I got 4 more Westies: ( Max now 8, Alice and Phoebe both 7 and Sammy 12, who became mine).

Best decision I ever made!:)

well, i dont know if they are pros, but they are beautiful, no matter its age. they always like to play, alot. also, they are too curious, what makes them cute :D they always are next to you. they are full of energy i got 1 and hes my best friend :) they are probably the best breed to choose. everytime u see them, u will not resist to hug them! i really recommend u this breed.

they are hypoallergenic. I have a westie, I've had 7! And I'm only 16. But I'm really allergic to animals with fur, but I've NEVER had a problem with a westie.

Westies are great dogs! I've had mine for 12 years. He's my best friend. He guards the house and would protect me from anything! Westies have great personalities. They can be bossy and stubborn but in a cute way. You just cant say no to those cute little faces! One down side would be that they tend to have skin problems as they get older. Mine had a few ear infections in his time. He also has arthritis but he's kinda old so thats to be expected.

Westies are fun to play with, and they stay around their master alot. But the problem is, it takes a LONG time to potty train them and you have to take them out to pee a lot... Overall, I think it would be waaaay less work to get a dog, and I kind of regret getting one. But they are soooooo cute so that makes up for the work.

Hi! This is my 1st westie and I'm really glad that he has a good temperament.

If possible, buy from a home breeder and take a look at the parents (which is what we did). This is because the temperament depends on the genes of the parents.

For puppies who are bred at home, they are used to be close to human (unlike pet shops) and less likely to be afraid of his new home in future.

Hello Heather, I have had a Westie from weaning and he is now seven years old, and I can thoroughly recommend them for temperament and general all round good fun. I have two granddaughters, one who is three, and the other is six months and he loves their company. However this is down to a lot of patient training and me not tolerating any bad behaviour. As long as you show him who is the boss, you will have no trouble with him. My advice is go and get one, but make sure he knows who is in charge.

@heather90901 I grew up with a westie from an outdoor breeder. We got him when I was about ten, and he was perfect. Westies are very friendly, very emotional, and very rowdy little dogs. Theyre not rat/lap dogs, but theyre not giant blundering oafs either. Theyre tough little guys, and they know where to draw line in terms of rough housing with kids. I couldnt recommend a westie more to you.

@heather90901 Hi, I had a westie of 12 years. He's a fantastic dog with good looks, temperament and brains. Basically, like children, all pups needs to be trained. It also depends what kind of westie you'd like. The good looking ones? or the locally bred ones? Your 8 year old cat will be fine with the westie after a while, since it's a pup. :) Westies are easy to handle and are very good with children. :) Go google them. You'll get alot of info. :) Hope this helps!

I would recommend against buying stuffed toys for her. My westie would gut stuffed animals in under 5 when he was a puppy. ...then he gutted my recliner! Westies ftw.
