I am also a francophone, and have interviewed Ben in French. For us francophones to have someone say our name as it really should be said, and pronounced it in its original language is a great compliment and makes us feel 'known' and that anglos are making an effort to know us. When I say anglophones, or spanish or arabic names, I don't say them in French while talking French. I love how he does it, and his pronounciation is perfect. He is perfectly bilingual, that is great.
lol..a pet peeve. There's a difference btwn pronouncing in a 'french fashion' & doing full on french. If he were speaking french, he wouldn't say his name in full on english..rather something in btwn.
I've lived in montreal & people who do this tend to be trying to show off.
Imagine someone who's lived in the UK & Can speaking to u in a cdn accent but doing full on british when referring to UK cities or british celebrities' names..they wouldn't be wrong..but weird & annoying.

@tsttm That's exactly what I was talking about! Finally someone who gets it :) I never said his pronunciation was wrong, it's just the way he changes it only for French names that's kinda funny.
What are you talking about, over pronouncing? He's pronouncing the names correctly, which he does in perfect French because the man is bilingual. The man's French is absolutely perfect!
Bah.. Il le prononce comme il faut.. c'est juste qu'il a un accent anglais quand même assez heavy ahahaa so ça pourrait paraitre weird mais ouais, il dit les noms comme du monde au moin :P
exactly, he's just pronouncing their names exactly how their own parents and friends would pronounce them. that's a good thing! what's wrong with that!!
The only thing I noticed that might be considered an exaggeration is that his Rs are a little too strong (scratchy, like some Arabs) and he says belle-rôsse instead of belle-rôze.
As someone who is perfectly bilingual in both French and English, Ben does a great job saying the names the way they were meant to be pronounced. If he can pronounce them as they were meant to be (French) Why pronounce em with a fake English accent?
I don't think he overpronounces them, but I still think it sounds funny! I've heard people go back and forth between languages all my life, but for some reason I always find it funny when people switch between languages with perfect accents XD Maybe the differences in the languages sound jarring? "Je m'appelle BOB SMITH." Anyways, this video is awesome! ^^ I especially like the part with the multiple Bens like in the Julie Chen Montage XD
hahaha.. he doesn't over pronounce at all.. the fact is that he has absolutly no accent when he speaks Quebec french... good for him to be that bilingual! I wish I'd be that good in English

I don't see the problem with pronouncing a word the way it ought to be pronounced no matter what language you speak

He got the best education in French and English, courtesy of the money his father stole from Canadians over the years.

Even with his "overpronouncing", he's still better than Ryan Seacrest.

he pronounces french words and names like they are said and pronounced in french. He sounds like he's french.

@Evy2526 except for the way he pronounces Québec, other than that, you're right, he does have a good accent.
EthMan09 1 year ago
He sounds funny but he doesn't overpronounce them I think.
I'd actually hate to go on that show or any show or anything in general and they'd say my name as I was English-speaking because I'm not, you know.
It's weird because he puts lots of accent on the 'r's. Funny.

What do you mean, "he overprounces"? He talks french perfectly. And yes, he's from Montreal, Quebec. You're just not used to hearing french.

His french is perfect and he's from Montreal. It would be really stupid from him to say those names with an english accent.
And he doesn't overpronounce french names. I know it, my first language is french.
