Art is an institutional concept. Even a pile of empty milk cartons in a gallery is undoubtedly art if it is so defined by the art establishment. I heard of a guy who put a starving dog on exhibition, letting it starve to death as a piece of art. That's probably the most gross and disturbing art form I've ever heard of :/

@MadOfelia That happened in Central America, most likely Guatemala. From what I heard, no one really knows what happened to the dog. The man actually had a pretty good justification: why do people get mad at one dog starving in a museum while there are thousands of dogs starving in the streets? Although maybe starving the dog to prove his point wasn't too ethical.

@HipHopWorldStar I understand that, but it's not good justification. It's not worse that a dogs starves in a museum than on the streets, the difference is that on the streets, the dogs are homeless, without a human being involved in their starvation. In this case, one person forces this dog into starvation, not even giving it a chance to try and find food, shelter, water; basically, to survive. All this just for people to stare at it all day, making it an object. That's sick.

While I agree it's one of the most controversial artworks ever put on a display, I think it served as a good piece in terms of the issues it's trying to address. The point of the artwork serves as an criticism against animal abuse in the society. In fact, the artist himself signed a petition against the artwork. While many are signing petitions and criticizing the artist and all that, nobody actually made any attempt to free the dog.

I saw an exhibit at the Vancouver Art Gallery about the human body. It was really strange. It included sculptures of bodies that were supposed to look like they were melting or had exploded, as well as the art of a sculptor who makes wax molds of real people, using wax mixed with the drugs keeping them alive.

@alltime10s i got a few #1 Marc Quinn done a mold of his head, filled it with his own blood then froze it. it took him 5 months to gather the 10 pints needed. it sold for 2 Million U.S dollars in 2005. #2 Jana Sterbak made a life size lay-z-boy out of cured beef. #3 the most gross Jordan Mckenzie jizzed on paper and coverd it in carbon dust till dry leaveing an obvious mark on the paper he has done 57 of these art works lol busy guy
