Just starting my Santa Fe N scale layout, its only 4ft x 2 ft as I'm short on space. This video has inspired me to get on with it. Can i ask what rolling stock you are using as they run very well and i need to get some box cars?
@FPSrich - Hi, the Santa Fe refrigerator cars you see in the video are Intermountain N scale Santa Fe reefers. Atlas and Micro-Trains and Fox Valley Models and BLMA and ExactRail and Athearn also make great freight cars. There is a lot good choices avail, you can't go wrong by sticking within the above list.
I love the the color variations in the ties and rail.... Is it hand laid?..if so awesome job thats the best part of the hobby for me, is the "not out of the box look" terrific video.
is that hand laid track?, Im just asking cause the ties and rail dont look commercialized. who ever did it did a real nice job on the colorization of it all...terrific video
Hi, the San Diego Model Railroad Museum's N scale track is all handlaid code 40. Superb trackwork - real work of art by the club. If you are ever in San Diego, go to Balboa Park and check out all the layouts at the San Diego Model RR Museum :-).
Dit is een wat oudere kit van Tamiya, op de markt gebracht in het begin van de jaren tachtig!! De detaillering is goed, vooral de ruwe structuur op de koepel. Minder is de afwerking van de luiken en de handgrepen!!!!
Hi, Jacob, thx for asking. Freight trains often do not travel that fast, especially in mountainous regions like the area modeled. So, we ran the train at a speed that is typical of what a real train would run in this area. :-)
Yes, N scale train can go faster. The video is showing about scale 30 MPH, typical of 1950s. Modern hot-shot intermodal trains (such as Burlington Northern Santa Fe's transcontinental main) often run at 60 MPH. The Trainmaster N scale loco in video can easily attain that much scale speed.... we just rarely run at that speed in mountains. Glad you enjoyed the video :-)
Hi, the model of the engine is an Atlas H24-66 Fairbanks-Morse Trainmaster. It's painted in a fantasy scheme (i.e. Santa Fe never actually had FM Trainmasters). Glad you enjoyed the show. :-)
Hi, dcalcutt, I have a photo album on Community Webshots that documents this Jan 2005 visit to the N scale Pacific Desert Lines at the San Diego Model RR Museum, the userid is: "atsf_arizona_layout_tour2" Unfortunately, YouTube does not allow me to post URLs in my comments, but if you can get to Community Webshots' web page, you can see lots of photos of the visit. Thx for visiting the video!
This is perhaps the finest N Scale Model open to the public in the WORLD! You MUST see it in person to enjoy it. It is also run by the most warm and friendly group in the world!

30 for freight diesels the sf ran their 4-8-4's & 2-10-2's around 50mph becaust the more speed the more power w/ steam

The train looks alot more realistic at the speed shown in this video. If you want fast, buy a race car set.
