  • Is it possible that gravity affects light without actually distorting the space?

In other words, why is it space-time being distorted, can't "everything else" be distorted with space-time be left untouched?

How did Einstein come to that conclusion instead?

  • Is this Malcolm McDowell narrating?

  • that alarm clock reminded me of a show that i cant remember the name of, it used to come on on the discovery channel. it was about catatrophies and it showed simulations of those scenarios. they probably wont have it on their website so if anyone knows the show im talking about please reply to me

  • Im 14, and during the summer i came to a realization. A realization on how black holes are formed and work. I had an entire 120 page filled out front to back cover to cover explaining my idea. The first day back i gave the notebook to the schools physics teacher. She read the entire thing, then called me crazy. That following week i showed it to my neighbor who was a physicist. He looked it over and said that he couldn't believe that a 14 year old created a plausible explaination of black holes

  • @JacobProvo could you e-mail it to me I'm a bit curious I'll PM you the address

  • @JacobProvo @JacobProvo Yo Jacob,email me your work at axlthered8@hotmail.com

I will prove whether your theory is even right let alone revolutionary..

  • so many DCD songs! why!!

  • Thank you for this documentary, I enjoy this video.

  • Talking about religion or God is asking why?

That is not the question here.

They question is how. How does this great universe we live in work?

It's not about God, though religious people like making it so. We aren't saying anything about whether God exists, but are trying to find out how the universe came to be. Asking why it came to be is not a question science answers, but religion. Don't get those two issues confused and you will begin to see that you can accept science and god.

  • @Pax00Imperium i think why is a higher question than how.

  • online, No mines a Brown Hole...lmao

  • Ur anus is a Black Hole...!!!

  • Stay on point ppl!!!!!! We are talkin about Black holes. Not who's mother is whetever. Or god did whatever... Think about the deepness of what's being said ..........peace

  • black hole started in your mothers asses.

  • black holes started when u were born.

  • why black holes grow?do gravity wins againts time?

  • cuz black holes make white holes.

our entire universe is a white hole(bigbang)

    shits crazy man

  • They absorb new matter, planets, stars, galaxys. And they warp space time soo much that, time slows down to a hault.

  • Charlie ...what are u reffering to is not a black hole ....but a warmhole...what finds itself near a black hole is almost instantly turned to shreads or consumed (ex a star ) ...a warmhole is that "bridge u mentioned " it is said that travelling in a warmhole is faster than the speed of light ...

  • of course black holes move ...everything in the universe is in motion

  • do the black holes move or stay in 1 place?

  • They do exist u R-TARD

  • I believe they move ---not sure---. But it depends on the wether or not it is "feeding" on a star.

  • they move r tard ^-^ everything move in space. no such thing as 0 mph in the world ever. (the earth rotate so ha!)

  • wow, you're right, there isn't such thing as 0 speed in the universe, i don't think...that's a crazy concept, I've never stopped to think of that before.

  • Uhh... duh, god could do it.

  • No he can't. He hasn't evan figured out how to save all the cancer patients or feed the millions of starving people yet. God is clearly incompetent.

  • What are you talking about, he's just being a good father. now we're not all spolied rich kids.

  • Why do we always use God to explain everything? Doesn't it make more sense to use sophisticated equipment and meticulous observation?

  • Hows a satellite gonna escape a black hole? Unless G-man has something to do with it.

  • It may be possible to send a well enforced probe to an extremely weak black hole where the gravity is not strong enough to rip the craft apart.

  • The escape velocity for a neutron star is 1/3 the speed of light, no matter as we know it could support itself on its surface. Unless Chuck Norris is in that prob, I doubt it would stand a chance. m+E%R$6t/

    U

  • Any black hole's gravity is strong enough to rip it apart.

  • Well let me ask you this.

What was before the big bang?

    What was before cosmic membranes?

    What was before anything?

  • Maybe in a thousand years we'll have the answers. I like to think that in a way, we're still stuck in the middle ages, when everyday phenomena like solar eclipses can't be explained. I see the structure of the universe as today's solar eclipse.

  • there was nothing before anything....i think of life and death as 2 opposites that descend and ascend unto each others worlds infinitly....the only true source of perpetual energy is life

  • It's like saying "Oh, man, I can't explain it.... Well, it must be God then"....... Like thousands of years ago people had no idea how sunrises work or earthquakes or why does it rain, so they made up Gods and worshiped them: The God of Sun, The God of Sean, and so on.

  • Everything.

Have you got a Theory of Everything?

  • nothing. not even time...

  • I know it is very hard to visualize or think about something NOT being outide" the universe, and I am not saying I find it easy either, but that is the way one need to think about it to be able to fully appreciate the standard modell.

"Before" is referring to something in time *inside* the universe. According to the standard model time was created with the universe. Therefore any question about "before" big bang is meaningless as it did not exist such thing as time before the big bang.

  • "r tard"?? Really, how old are you? All they were doing was asking a question. That doesn't make them a retard. Before you insult other peoples intelligence, maybe you should learn to form proper sentences.

  • Hmmm >:) thanks for replying lol *psychology on the net*

  • is this john hurt?

  • I beleive that black holes are portals to other dimensions. Everything inside is compressed into a singularity, which, in theory, could possibly "bridge" to another point in spacetime, or the spacetime of anyother universe existing in another dimension.

Maybe our black hole is another universe's big bang.

  • Thank you very much for posting this! :D

  • that's the hero's dude... OH MY GOD!!! CAN'T BELEIVE I DIDN'T NOTICE THAT

  • he have sex with black holes?

  • I know all about physics...I know EVERYTHING about physics...Not really

but imagine if you did know everything.

  • Nth level intellect

  • black holes are wierd like seriously light doesnt weigh anything , its matter but how could it be sucked into 1 ?

it seems true but it puzzles me

  • Light travels through space, and space itself is actually curved and warped by the black hole.. The event horizon is essentially a place where space curves in on itself.. like water in a bathtub, theres only one direction for light to go, and the black hole is the drain. So light really isn't 'pulled in' to the black hole.. it's just guided into it while it travels the space surrounding the black hole..

  • ohhh i see now!

    thanks heaps :D

  • light also have relative mass.

    E=MC^2.

Ifyou have energy, you have a relative mass.

    Light even has momentum.

  • thanks heaps :)

  • what are you talking light has no mass a photon the carrier of light has zero mass so it can go at the speed or light. you see the faster a object go the heavier it gets so you would need a infinitively amount of energy to get at the speed of light and nothing has infinite energy and e=mc2 is Einstein equation about how things with mass has energy inside of it and vice versa its not about light having mass. just wanted to correct your small mistake cr9527 but if i wrong at anything correct me

  • photons have a relative mass, not an actual mass. By relative, i mean when it moves, it carries momentum, as if it has mass.

  • Yes. And the fuel for future spacecrafts might be photon propulsion.

  • I believe that just means a solar sail.

Because even though photons have relative mass, Electron's movement would counteract the photons.

    =\

  • Oh then in that case, it must be a conspiracy. World wide conspiracy.

  • u sure they arent talking about ion propulsion?

  • A quasar is gas that is thwirling around a black hole (supermassive blackhole) The gas is being whirled around with such high speeds that it heets up to incredible temperatures, which in turn radiate out into the universe.

But no, a quasar is not a black hole itself.

  • To be more specific:

The stuff twirling around the black hole is called an accretion disk.

Some supermassive black holes have correspondingly huge accretion disks, releasing such insane amounts of radiation that even though they are billions of light years away, they seem as bright to us as the stars in our own galaxy - hence the term "QUASi stellAR radio source" or QUASAR).

  • A black hole is basicly a gravity ball on meth.

They pull you in cruch you and you become another part of it. If you were to somehow survive a few miliseconds of the radiation and looked outward from the black hole, you would see all of time of the universe before your eyes. All of the future going bye. Like the universe is on fast forward. Afterwards you are turned into something smaller than a quark.

    Enjoy.

  • i dont get it. if they find a black hole. send a camera in it and see what happens. when im old ive done what i wanna do im gonna go into a blackhole o.O

  • the camera would be crushed

  • ok, rate this comment down if you want, but..

what is there are Extra-Terrestrials using some kind of Technology to Trick us?

  • he cant exactly correct himself can he you idiot...

  • talking about newton

i dont want and dont need him to correct himself you idiot

  • loool, if we go thorugh one...that wowuld me MAD! hahaa

  • just because you can't see something it means it doesn't exist...can you see air??,no but you know it exist, you feel it and see it's effects...

  • I read that THEORICALY speaking WHITE HOLES might exist...my questions are,are they possible and are they at the opposite of black holes leading to other parts of the universe or "EVEN" other universes???

  • Yes,it is possible that a black hole is just a gateway to another part of the universe or even alternate dimensions.

  • thats what freaks think. time stops in black holes.

  • You should listen to Steven Hawking he kinda knows more about black holes than anyone. He said nothing in the universe is ever lost and that black holes being gateways to different dimensions is very possible.

  • i don't care who he thinks he is

  • "dark matter" or anti-matter is not a fiction. If you ever heard about particle accelerators you there to be informed that in help of accelerator it is possible to produce antimatter.

  • they DO fucking exist for christs sake.

There is a black hole in our galaxy. There are black holes all over the universe. Its been on the television about them. Of course they're real.

  • Bluesojorn, you my friend, are a fucking idiot.

  • So you call other people with different oppinions idiots?

  • If there opinion is downright stupid, then yes.

Saying something publicly like "They are inherently invisible and UNDETECTABLE (how convenient). They are pure science fiction. They were INVENTED and inserted into the dogmatic mythology of mainstream astrophysics"

is bullshit. Black holes ARE detectable; they have been for about 30 years now. Bending light, black spots over groups of stars and the galaxy are ways of seeing one for yourself. Don't even get me started on radio waves either.

  • Isnt a quasar a black hole?

  • According to Wikipedia: "A Quasar (contraction of QUASi-stellAR radio source) is an extremely powerful and distant active galactic nucleus."

I would say it is to a certain degree, being that it's about as close to a black hole as something can be without actually being one.

  • Jesus fucking Christ. Are you fucking stupid?

  • if i ever met a black hole i'd "rassle it"

  • IS this GOD?!?!? o_O

  • ahh black holes... stalking the universe in their endless hunger for galaxies. consuming all in their path... make sure you eat your vegitables kiddies, if not a black hole is sure to burst from your closet and consume your soul... BOO!!

  • oh my god!!! man u almost gave me a hert attack with that BOO!! thing. Dont ever do that again:)

  • Black holes scare the shit out of me

  • which makes them great fodder for mindfreak space movies. too bad the movie Event Horizon has tainted that path.

  • @chimaira6668 you little puss

  • @cantroos

I was talking about your mama's black hole Cantroos she draws alot of rockets towards it

  • Thanks! This is awesome.

  • Thank you for the video

  • Hey thank you very much for posting the great documentaries, you can't imagine how much i apreciated it. :)

  • John Hurt, the narrator, is cool too!

  • Thank you for the video. I love black holes

  • I have a black hole in my house. If i ever find it i will get back my keys and several single socks.

  • breack it in two parts.

  • Thanks for posting this program.
